Controlling Step Sequencer with Drum Machine Triggers - an old school trick
Ever wished you could “play” the steps of a synth sequence rather than just its notes? In this video, I show how to use a hardware drum machine to clock a synth’s internal sequencer—controlling when each step advances—so you can bend meter, create odd-length loops, and get evolving phase-y grooves.
We’ll turn the DrumBrute Impact’s FM drum into a dedicated trigger source, dial in proper PPQ values on the MiniFreak, and explore ratchets and deliberate phase drift. It’s quick, musical, and a great way to make a static pattern feel alive.
