The birth of Coney Island’s amusement park industry happened to coincide with that of the motion picture. Both gaining traction in about 1895 in New York City, motion picture studios like Edison and Biograph saw Coney Island and its somewhat seedy amusement parks as just the thing mutoscope parlors and early nickelodeons wanted footage of.
