In this video, you will learn how we brew coffee with thin air. If you are looking for unique coffee brewing methods, this one may surprise you. Using the Power-To-X technology, we can now brew coffee with a Coffee Machine that is run with Synthetic Methane.

00:16 How to brew coffee out of thin air?
00:28 Three Steps of Turning Indoor Air Into Synthetic Methane
00:58 Usage of Synthetic Methane
Finnish companies, Wärtsilä, Soletair Power and Q Power are showcasing Power-to-X (P2X) technology at the World Expo in Dubai 2021 – 2022, where the P2X demo unit captures carbon dioxide out of the indoor air and makes synthetic carbon-neutral fuel (methane) out of it.
Wärtsilä’s Power-to-X demonstration unit uses cutting-edge technology to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from indoor air. Through electrolysis, water is split into hydrogen and oxygen. While the fresh oxygen is released back into the air, the hydrogen is combined with the remaining CO2 particles to create carbon-neutral synthetic methane, a green fuel. The demonstration unit itself is a product of close collaboration with Finnish innovative technology companies Soletair Power and Q Power – two companies that have helped bring the Power-to-X technology demo to life. Remarkable? Wait. There’s more.
Responsibly sourced coffee from Finnish food and beverage company Paulig is then brewed in the coffee machine that runs on this synthetic methane. In one stroke, Wärtsilä, together with its many partners, has pulled off the seemingly impossible. Engaging ground-breaking technology to combat a real-world problem and using it to create an eco-friendly solution. Out-of-the-box thinking, great coffee and deep-rooted respect for nature – you can’t get more Finnish than that. After all, the Finns drink more coffee per capita than any other nationality and Finland has more forests and water than anywhere else in Europe.
▬ Power-to-X – fuel out of thin air ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Power-to-X is a process which allows the creation of carbon neutral, renewable future fuels. By capturing CO₂ from the air and combining it with green hydrogen, multiple different carbon-neutral future fuels can be created.
In the future, fossil fuels will be replaced by these future fuels as they lower the impact on the climate. Power-to-X can accelerate decarbonisation in industries, transportation and the energy sector.
Today, the extraction of fossil fuels used in various applications is accompanied by continuous increase in release of CO₂ into the atmosphere.
When existing CO₂ in the air is reused as a raw material for synthetic fuel production and other processes – there are no new CO₂ emissions. Circular carbon economy ensures CO₂ balance by recycling CO₂ emissions and utilisation non-fossil alternatives with a support of e.g. forests acting as carbon sinks.
