A CNG-powered semi caught fire and burned completely to the frame, and the whole thing was caught on video. By the time the fire department finished putting it out, there wasn't much left besides a twisted, charred skeleton.
I got called in after the fire was extinguished to recover what remained of the truck and transport it to a local scrap yard. What looked like a simple burned-truck tow came with some unique challenges because this wasn't a normal diesel semi, it was powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).
CNG is often promoted as a cleaner-burning alternative to diesel, but storing natural gas under high pressure creates its own set of hazards when a vehicle is involved in a serious fire. Modern CNG systems incorporate multiple safety features, but damaged cylinders, extreme heat, residual pressure, and compromised fuel-system components still have to be treated with respect during recovery.
Once everything was confirmed safe to handle, I loaded up what was left using Hulk 2.0 and set it down on our lowbed driven by Eddie. Then off to SA Recycling for the final resting spot.
