You read it right: the title says CMST! That's because this is Chinese MapleStory's Test Server, which, for some reason, got this update before KMST. This update belongs to KMS' Ultimate patch, and it seems to be incomplete as it still has several korean strings, but the content should be complete or nearly complete, so I'm going to cover it.

This really seems like one of the pieces of content they put the most effort into. It's just great, plus the music is AMAZING as expected. As if this wasn't enough, Root Abyss gives many relevant pieces of information about Maple's story. What could we ask more?

Now, let's start with the explaining. Root Abyss is located in Maple World. It's.. in Sleepywood! How? Simple: there's the root of a large tree located off the path to Ant Tunnel. And yeah, there's all this and more below!

It seems that, while exploring it, your character falls in this enormous tree hole, and is awakened by a girl named Alice. Alice is the World Tree. It's that which was mentioned in Future Henesys' storyline, in which Arkarium tried to make us believe that Cygnus would fall in a trap and get corrupted along with her knights while looking for it in the future. Why was she looking for it? World Tree is the Transcendence of Life, and it's immortal. She probably wanted her help to make her knights stronger for the fight against Black Mage.

After the battle against Black Mage, her powers became very weak, so she rested in Root Abyss, at the centre of Victoria Island, to regain them. It seems she might have helped the five heroes by weakening Black Mage with her powers, so that's the reason she had to rest. But it's not all. It seems like she has been sealed! You have to fight the 4 bosses in the area (Banban, Pierre, Bloody Queen and Belum - they are those shadows shown in the Unlimited trailer) to free her! These bosses are coming from another dimension. It was likely a Black Mage's general to help putting the seal. Not long ago an Inkwell's Secret Diary entry with a picture of a red-haired guy was released. Now we know it was taken in Root Abyss, and that person is Damian, Demon's brother! (Demon Slayer and Demon Avenger are the same person, with the name of Demon). Well. Some sources (must be confirmed, though) say that he's another general of Black Mage, and he might have helped with putting a seal to Alice. That way, the good side of Maple World would've lacked of a great power source to defeat Black Mage in the future battle.

As some of you probably know, the release of Grandis made us discover about the history of transcendences. The Transcendence of Light in Maple World is the Black Mage, which was then corrupted and became what he is now. Transcendence of Light, though, is mortal. The Transcendence of Time in Maple World is the Goddess of Time Rhinne. She is immortal.

In Grandis, the Transcendence of Life is Darumoa (Darmoa?). He gave the power to Magnus to take over Helisium, and is rumoured to be the bad guy of the new world Grandis.

The Transcendence of Time in Grandis, Chronica, had her power stolen by Darumoa. Using its powers, Darumoa was able to connect Maple World with Grandis, through a dimensional portal.

Transcendence of Light in Grandis, Iona, is similar to World Tree. Little is known about it.

Back to our story, this is a new area for levels 110 to 160. There's only a map before each boss so it's not good for training, though. They might expand it in the future, though. This just looks too good to be left like this.

Every boss has two different modes, one for levels 110 and over and the other for levels 140 and over.

As you can see, they finally heard our voices and made some different boss fights than usual! These actually require tactics to be defeated, not just raw damage. Much importance is given to your character's position while fighting them. For example, if you stand in the wrong place while fighting Banban (the one who controls the power of time in Root Abyss), the timer will go down. Pay attention to that, you'll see it!

Pierre (the clown) has a particular tornado skill which leaves DoT tiles on the floor. Bloody Queen does a slash attack that inflicts different status effects on you.

Belum, the last (and most badass) boss, disappears and reappears from the ground every few seconds, making the fight difficult.

These seem to give pretty good rewards.

It's suggested to watch in high quality.
