Church leaders allegedly swindled **$23 million in GI Bill benefits** from veterans over a decade by setting up sham seminaries near military bases and targeting vulnerable service members. This stunning abuse of veterans' trust is classic **affinity fraud**, where religious authority is leveraged to fleece people who are already primed to follow leaders. While victims received little more than abysmal Bible studies, the leaders allegedly used the funds for personal gain, even falsifying mortgage documents in students' names, proving that when religious fraudsters go unchecked, they become con men *and* **burglars** who steal both education and financial futures.
