The statue of Christ the Redeemer on top of Corcovado Mountain is considered one of the seven wonders of the world. Over 99% of visitors either take a train or a tour bus, but there is an excellent hiking trail you can take to the top as well. It starts at Parque Henrique Lage and winds its way through the jungle canopy while gaining over 2,000 feet in elevation. The trail is not difficult and can be completed by just about anyone in reasonable physical condition. We mainly encountered trail runners and did not see anyone who appeared to be suspicious or dangerous. Overall, this hike is a great way to see Rio de Janeiro's most iconic landmark.
