This Hike Was A Little Too Much For Us | Table Mountain Wilderness, Nevada Lost Again with Jim 2026-05-31 | Backpacking in Nevada can be a very different type of challenge. Backcountry areas, and trails here are not often maintained, they are usually very remote and hard to get to. Water is always a major concern. Seasonal streams and springs dry up, water will vanish underground, and reappear along the same creek bed. Missing an opportunity to refill, could mean disaster. There isn't a lot of available information for most of these areas, and trip planning has to happen with paper maps, and satellite imagery. There are no FarOut guides, and very view first hand accounts for these rugged routes. Exploring these areas is always an adventure. Changing plans on the fly, being able to read your map and make decisions as you go, and knowing when to say "enough is enough" are crucial skills.
