Chevy Cobalt Rear Lamp Replacement in the Driveway @rubin-tech

Today we will be replacing the rear lamp fixture on a Chevy cobalt, it happens to be cracked. Ive noticed that these crack over time, i'm not sure why. Furthermore this one also has a bad bulb, manifesting by a quick flicking of the turn signal relay. I take the time though to check all bulbs before beginning the project.

Ill note that the new fixtures that I order include new bulbs, before reordering any unnecessarily.

I remove the two 7mm screws on the outside of the fixture followed by the two plastic nuts inside the trunk. Then, pulling away the trunk material. This reveals the one nut on the stud of the tail light, removed with a 10mm socket. Pushing against the stud allows for removal of the lamp.

I take a moment to clean the lamp well since its nasty, after disconnecting the old lamp. Installation is the same as reverse, then testing that all lamps work.

I is a Tornador knockoff at a fraction of the price. After an unboxing and a quick assembly, e see that this is a later design with a metering valve and a bearing. Mixing the rug carpet cleaner fluid into the water as per that manufacturers recommendation I give it a go on one of the cobalts floormat. The results were quite impressive however it became apparent that a small compressor is a definite no-go for this device. A medium sized compressor may be ok for spot cleaning. Vacuuming first would be a must. Since this device blows the dirt up, when working in the car masking off areas with a sheet should be considered or there could be a mess, especially on carpets. I moved to the auto shop to the large compressor for the other half of testing. Fabric interior items like door panels, headliners and seats had stains removed without effort. The rust spots from the AC drain on the passenger side was removed as well. On the headliner I found that the air relief on the bottle will drip on you, as there is no check valve, also the clunk line needs to be manually flipped around because its not heavy enough. All in all, along with the carpet cleaner I purchased along side this, It definitely a good purchase to revitalize automotive carpets and interiors.
