While the dominant theory for the origins of the Celtic language and culture says that it developed within central Europe, there have always been problems with the theory from an archaeological, and in more recent years, genetic, point of view.
Barry Cunliffe and John T Koch developed an alternative explanation which, though controversial, does have considerable explanatory power and answers many of the weaknesses of the Urnfield/Hallstatt theory, especially the lack of notable Urnfield and Hallstatt related genetic admixture in Ireland.
