Quite a few years ago I shared a discovery that Ronseal Hardwood furniture oil is great for restoring car black plastic back to looking like new black plastic again, instead of that grey colour that it goes after many years.
Many people asked how long it lasts. Well finally here is the definitive answer and proof. I show the results after 3 years.

Many people also said use a hot air gun. This obviously works for some people but it doesn’t work on fairly old plastic, as there is little oil left in the plastic to rise up from the action of the heat. It also risks melting the plastic! Or blistering the paint! Obviously best avoided. I tried the hot air gun method on my old Discovery (see the original bumper blackening video here: youtu.be/steNu7tjgVM ) and it didn’t work. So no more comments on using hot air guns please.

Here is the usual stuff I’ve used in the past, which is meant to be for bumper blackening. However I have personally found that it does fade over the years to quite a grey colour, as in the video:
