Can you put new silicone caulk over old silicone, or do you always have to remove the old sealant first?
It's one of the most debated DIY questions. Some people say it'll never stick, while others say they've done it for years without any problems. Rather than relying on opinions, I decided to test it.
In this video I apply new silicone over old silicone, leave it to cure, and then see what actually happens. Does it bond properly? Does it peel straight off? Or is the truth somewhere in between?
If you're resealing a bath, shower, sink or kitchen worktop, this test could save you a lot of time—or stop you making a costly mistake.
