King Stingray Album Tour 2022 (Mini Documentary) King Stingray 2023-06-06 | In October of 2022 King Stingray announced their first Australian wide album tour in support of their debut record. Due to the demand for tickets, the 6 dates in 6 cities soon grew to 12 dates with a double header needed in every location. Many a punter across the land wanted a taste of the fabled Kings of Sting. I (Sam Brumby) somehow hitched a ride amongst this troupe of ruffians and watched as the red dusted faded into a collage of sold-out rooms filled with adoring fans. Nine months on and the band are prepped and ready to do it all again, albeit in venues more than twice the size. I worked alongside the boys on a short film that documents their maiden voyage into country wide admiration. This is the 2022 King Stingray Album Tour mini Doco! Directed and Filmed by our mate Sam Brumby.

It tells a story of heading back home. It came about after one of our family members got lost in the city of Melbourne one time when we were on tour with Yothu Yindi. She had no phone. In true Yolŋu style she navigated her way back to us. We now laugh about it. There have been times when we miss our home back in North-East Arnhem Land. But when we see the sun go down and we see that djapana wherever we are we know our home is never far away. Yirrŋa and I wrote this song when we were away on tour. It’s really about living under the one sun. We were watching the sun set in a totally different direction to what we were use to seeing it. But when we saw the sun go down and we saw that sunset we realized we are all just living under the one sun, the same sun. Wherever we are at whatever time zone, there’s still just one sun and seeing that sunset lets us know that home is never far away.
