Comments:
- One of the main things that always bothered me about The Pit Level 2 was how incohesive it felt, mainly due to the many palette/music changes. This remaster changes that, and I really feel it makes a world of difference to the viewing experience; it's so much more pleasant.
- While I do like the custom graphics used in this hack overall, at certain points, I found the visuals too fancy for their own good, with it being unclear at first glance which objects are solid and which are not. I ended up pressing Ctrl+F2 in Lunar Magic quite a few times because I couldn't parse the rooms at first glance.
- One visual effect that I really don't like is the darkness effect starting at around 3:45. It's barely noticable while playing (and even if it was, it certainly wouldn't be interesting), and it makes the room rather confusing and unsatisfying to watch.
- Gameplay-wise, this hack does not really try to innovate. The first half of the hack is essentially just the original The Pit Level 2, and already that one relied on mostly rather standard setups at the time. I do appreciate the attempt to incorporate custom sprites into pit design in the second half, but ultimately I feel like they weren't used in all that creative ways in this hack. Of course, none of this matters if you just want to do some fun shelljumps.
- One key difference between this version and the original TPL2 is the lack of any Reznor breaks. They were usually prevented by just blocking off sprite slot 7, which at more than one occasion led to sprite spawning issues complicating otherwise trivial setups.
- It's really funny to me how after all of the custom sprites, custom graphics, custom music and custom HDMA effects, the boss clear music just breaks at 11:15
- This run is not optimized at all. Even with only mild optimization, this hack should be beatable in less than 10 minutes.

Comments:
- Thanks go out to dacin, StunnedByte and Noise for their runs. Quite a few timesaving strategies showcased in this video are originally due to them.
- Replaying my own hack after around 3 years was overall a very pleasant experience. There were a few setups where I had forgotten the details and which I had to figure out again. I avoided looking at my own clear video until I beat a setup but I frequently watched all available videos afterwards to make sure I didn't miss some obvious timesave.
- The obstacles I spent the most time on were the double throwblock bounce at 0:15, the shelljumps starting from 1:19, getting p-speed at 1:39, the shelljumps starting at 2:15, and the block duplications at 3:03. Most of these aren't too hard on a casual playthrough, but they become much harder when trying to do them quickly.
- Other troubling setups on this playthrough included the diagonal gap at 0:21, the shelljump at 0:35, the descending yoshi shelljumps at 0:56, and the on/off switch hit at 3:13. Overall, I stand by my claim that this hack is very difficult, especially on a fully blind playthrough.
- While I tried to optimize quite a bit, this run is not perfect. I wouldn't be too surprised if multiple seconds could still be saved.
Lots of glaring mistakes in this one, still good enough for WR apparently. Sub 10:50 is definitely possible.

Comments:
- This is an amazing hack. Throughout the entire 20 minutes it keeps showing you new obscure mechanics and forces you to really understand them. More than anything else, this hack was a massive learning experience for me.
- The music choices and the graphics used give this hack a very unique atmosphere. I really appreciate that the stereotypical "Hard level = loud, fast-paced music" approach wasn't used.
- This is easily the TAS I spend the most time and effort on. It's also my first TAS passing 100k rerecords (a pretty big number!).
- Difficulty-wise, this hack is not to be underestimated, with a lot of seemingly innocent sections that turn out to be really precise. This is especially cool to see because the main drivers of difficulty in other pit hacks, shell jump chains, are completely absent from this hack.
- Now that there is an optimized TAS, I can confirm that this is indeed the longest pit hack in existence: Even Non-Reznor'd ColonThree is about half a minute shorter.
- My (ambitious) goal for this run was to get a time of under 20 minutes. I'm surprised I almost hit it: dacin's reference movie is about 5:40 slower and I'm just off by 6 seconds. I'll call that a win.
This level is just not good. The bridge building section takes ages and is completely trivial, waiting out the p-switches is trivial as well and the last room is just awfully uninspired. Anyway, this needed a clear video so here it is.

- This is just a casual playthrough and not a speedrun, I barely optimized anything at all
- By today's standards, this hack is not that hard. The only jump that gave me slight troubles was the shelljump at 1:00. Overall, my playthrough took 5-6 hours.
- The rooms all felt very similar to me. Most of the time, you're just doing some combination of shelljumps and throwblock jumps with the occasional muncher diagonal slapped in. The final zip was satisfying to do though and it's something that hasn't been used a lot.
Might be first ever, I don't know. It's hard to tell because older videos don't tend to declare whether they used tools.
Wow, what an amazing level! Routing this was a ton of fun. Playing this was.... a little less fun but still nice. After you've found reasonably consistent strats for the puzzle portion of the level, the main difficulty becomes beating the yoshi wings stage that's strategically placed 6 minutes deep into the level. I probably died there ~20 times, with one extremely frustrating death on the last yoshi dismount. Overall though, this stage might be the easiest to do RTA now that there's an RTA-friendly route (though I've not seriously attempted any of the other stages).
Note that this was done on a fixed version of Cool or Cruel (standard Cool or Cruel crashes when entering pipes while a p-switch is active...). You can download it here: bin.smwcentral.net/u/23118/CoolOrCruelFixed.bps
[EDIT: I forgot to insert the poison mushroom sprite in the original version I linked here, which made the 2nd level impossible. This new version includes the poison mushroom and should work....]
I tried a bit to get the normal exit but I couldn't figure out how to set the stun timer of the key or how to stun the keyhole (both of these would give a sliding blue koopa, which gives a koopa kid)... maybe it's impossible (though in this game, you never know)

- I didn't think I would enjoy a hack with this much vanilla weirdness patched out (no walljumps, no speed oscillation, no sprite interaction frame rule) but playing this actually turned out to be a lot of fun
- The level design in this hack focuses more on single setups instead of having the setups flow into each other. This tends to introduce more breaks, which is good for the TAS
- This soundtrack of this hack is just amazing. It's a shame that the songs can't be heard fully, especially since they tend to get even better after the intro......
Shoutouts to katun for making me aware of the chuck in this level.

Comments:
- This run uses the SMWC version of the hack whereas the previous run used a pre-SMWC version. The SMWC version is slower as it patches a room skip (though it also removes a water section)
- I originally didn't plan to optimize this run for speed. The first rooms of this TAS were played over 3 years ago during a live stream and are rather sloppy as a result
- The reznor break itself is a fairly standard break as you have yoshi, a mushroom and a p-switch in a room with sprite buoyancy. I don't know how this was overlooked as the creator was clearly familiar with the stun glitch. The sprite header setting even naturally puts the yoshi in slot #6....
- This level is quite easy (well, at least the parts I played were easy). Some of the shelljumps took me a few minutes to figure out but most of the setups are very leniently built
- A lot of the jumps in this hack reminded me of ColonThree. It's a bit disappointing how standard most of the setups feel
- If you are building a pit hack, please don't make the player walk 15 seconds on the overworld before they can enter the level. It's boring
- 2:33 The block duplication shelljump is a nice setup
- 3:05 You don't see a lot of bob-ombs in pit hacks so I was quite happy that I could showcase this niche interaction
- 4:25 Clipping through the ceiling saves about 1.5 seconds as you don't have to wait for the multicoinblock timer to end. The intended way is to duplicate blocks
- 4:54 This clip should be impossible but one of the cement blocks randomly acts like air??? why
- 5:05 The spinjump through the 1-tile gap is way more precise than it appears as the ceiling is low and the next patch of ground quite far away
- The jumping piranha plant uses $151C so I had to respawn it before I could finish the level
Technical explanation:
This boss has 30 hits spread over 3 phases, with 10 hits each.
The break is based on the fact that you can still hit the boss during the phase transition animation. This is normally not noticable because you get no visual feedback that you hit her. But the lack of visual feedback also means: No iframes! Thus, you can deduct a lot of health just by jumping on her head during the transition cutscene. So far, just a minor oversight. But it gets worse: The game actually registers a hit for every frame you touch her, so by jumping low into her hitbox, you can score multiple hits (up to 7) in one jump. This allows you to get 9 hits (don't get 10 or she will just skip a phase) before the next phase starts and lets you skip every phase past the first one.

Comments:
- This run was only possible because of the previous TASes made by Dawn and dacin21. I very much appreciate that Dawn made his movie file public, it helped a ton when optimizing the first rooms.
- Compared to Dawn's TAS, this run saves 6 frames in the first room and 6 frames in the second. (It also loses 17 frames due to emulation differences but whatever, Snes9x is bad)
- The stun setup is possibly the dumbest thing I've ever optimized. Because turn block duplication takes ages I instead decided to "just" make the fish jump into the turn block. Luckily, this manipulation is indeed doable in two pauses (Challenge: Find a single pause that achieves the same) and luckily, the fish does multiple high jumps in a row. The highest jump is barely enough to make the fish jump up 2 tiles and this is precise enough that the fish's y subpixel matters. Everything considered, I'm very happy that this strat worked as well as it did.

Comments:
- I decided to play this hack because I was looking for a short and easy pit and I have to admit I underestimated the difficulty of this
- The intro trap is one of the better ones and it took me a moment to figure it out. I like the hack's usage of screen scrolls, they are an underused mechanic
- While this hack consists mostly of rather normal jumps, the very first setup is quite unique (and it took me a lot of time to find a quick way to time that screen scroll)
- 0:40 Juggling the throwblock while riding the disco shell was surprisingly difficult and the note block kept getting in the way. In general, this hack makes good use of invisible note blocks
- 1:35 I really like how this room turned out. The double shell jump barely needs any slowing down and it looks so smooth
- 1:45 We need more (and longer) cape flying sections in pit hacks. Also, the note block placement in this section was once again on point and the note blocks just kept getting in the way of my route
- The ending puzzle has a useless feather
- I really don't like optimizing stun setups so I probably lost a ton of time in the last room. The rest is quite optimized though and I'm happy with the run

Comments on this TAS:
- Almost all breaks were discovered by dacin21, not by me
- This is now the third time I've played this hack and it's still amazing
- As this is my third time playing the first room, most challenges have become trivial. This is also the first time I'm really content with how fast the final result is, although a very observant viewer can still catch a few flaws
- I had to play almost the entire second room twice as I screwed up the sprite slots the first time. This actually was a very good decision though, as this is 49 frames faster than the deleted scene I uploaded a few days ago
- The first stun setup was painful to do. I spent far over 5 hours on it and I'm still not really happy with it. Can't be bothered to figure out any optimizations though.
- I saved an enormous amount of time on the cape level as I now have far more experience with it (compared to 2 years ago, when I first TASed this). The cape is one of the more unexplored areas in pit hacks and there are a lot of obscure techniques with it.
- I'm sad the boss is now skipped. It is among the better big boo fights and I love the :3 faces.
- I love the pause button and it sees far too little use despite it being super useful for influencing frame rules.

Comments on hack:
Decent pit hack with mostly standard setups, though there are some innovations like the mushroom juggle with the hotheads or the triple throwblock jump in the second room. Difficulty curve is a bit weird: The first half of the hack is way harder than the later rooms, the last room especially is very easy, barely requiring frame advance. Ending puzzle is still neat but a few items are superfluous. Still 5/5 from me, it was fun to play.

This is the fastest completion, etcetc.
Mainly uploading this for moderation purposes. I hope this hack gets an update that fixes the boring breaks. Otherwise this is a decent pit hack and I enjoyed playing it. I particularly liked the ending puzzle although it was painful to optimize (and it's still far from perfect).

Task: Get every coin in yellow switch palace as fast as possible (obviously with yoshi) but with small mario and finish smashing the yellow switch.
