4:45 | "Sick in Love"
“We wanted to make something simple and honest and raw,” says Chris Turpin, one half of the breakout British duo Ida Mae. “We wanted to make a record our way, with no compromises.” That brand of fiercely unconditional commitment—to the songs, to the sound, to each other—has defined Ida Mae from the start, and it courses through the veins of the band’s brilliant debut, ‘Chasing Lights.’ Blending elements of vintage Delta blues and gritty rock and roll with boldly modern arrangements and fearless punk swagger, the record captures Ida Mae in its purest form, with Turpin and his longtime musical partner Stephanie Jean performing nearly everything live in the studio under the guidance of legendary producer Ethan Johns.
Chris and Stephanie joined us in the Attic Lounge to talk about inspiration, their upcoming Nashville show, and play us some songs off their new album.

With that simple introduction, so opens one of the year's most immersive and adventurous rock albums, “Eternal Reach”. It was during a college internship working as a hospitality runner for artists at an Orlando, FL music venue, when Kopp began touring the Southeast US herself. Student and intern by week, aspiring rockstar by weekend. Much of her tenacity and knowledge about the music industry developed while cutting her teeth behind the scenes. By the time she graduated from University, Kopp had self released an album and toured extensively through the US, laying herself a foundation to pursue music full time. She has since released a sophomore EP “Making Sense Of” (2015), presented at the TEDxGreenville conference, and successfully launched a second musical project - the indie rock powerhouse Midnight Riot, alongside longtime collaborator Justin Beckler. Last year she released her most recent single, “Hold Your Head Up”. In an ever changing music industry climate, Kopp has managed to merge entrepreneurship and art seamlessly, continuing to grow as a performer and songwriter, evolving and connecting with her audience. Emily joined us in historic War Memorial Auditorium’s Attic Lounge to play us a few songs and explain the emotion and authenticity behind each one.

9:02 "Only Promised Land"
We all need a new call to action. A new jolt of optimism. If you will, a New Reveille. Especially those of us who know the power of music as it once was… before computers started smoothing rough edges, before writers fell into step with paeans to parties and beer and the like, songs could cast spells. They could change the way people thought and felt. They touched on life and death. They were real — as real as the five-piece ensemble known as New Reveille. On The Keep, their inaugural album for Loud & Proud Records, New Reveille’s distinctive talents find common ground in traditions that stretch back to and beyond early America. On that foundation, through their varied gifts, they build a unique sound that encompasses the virtues of music that came before and the promise of what it might yet become. Their single “Hounds” is currently impacting Americana and non-commercial radio formats. New Reveille joined us in the attic lounge at the historic War Memorial Auditorium to play us some songs off of their debut album The Keep and discuss everything from ads on Craigslist to staying authentic in today’s music industry.

LUTHI routinely brings the party. “Boogie Circus” is the most colorful description of their sound so far. “We like the term Cumberland Funk too,” says front man Christian Luthi, with an easy chuckle. What’s very evident in talking with (what they call) “The LUTHI Crew” is the shared passion for helping others let loose. And let loose they will.
Traveling in a pack that can be likened to big bands of days gone by, the members of LUTHI have honed in on the one thing that all of them can agree on; “keeping it weird”. Drawing from influences that include soul and R&B acts from the 1960’s, psychedelic funk and groove from the 70’s, and New Wave rock and roll from the 80’s, LUTHI then turns the ingredients into their own stew of modern dance music, with lyrics and melodies that only continue to open themselves up to listeners with each new spin.
3:56 "Fight for Love"
7:19 "Wild World"

9:17 "Dog"
An easily confused and very shy individual, Charlie Parr has been traveling around singing his songs ever since leaving Austin, Minnesota in the 1980's in search of Spider John Koerner, whom he found about 100 miles north at the Viking Bar one Sunday night. The experience changed his life, made him more or less unemployable, and brings us to now: 13 recordings, 250 shows a year or more, 200,000 miles on a well broke in Kia, and a nasty fear of heights.
Playing everything from a mule resonator to a fretless open-back banjo, Charlie Parr often plays in the Piedmont blues style. He has many acclaimed singles including “1922” and “Just Like Today” which was featured in the closing credits of the Australian drama Red Hill. His most recent album is titled Dog, which he wrote and recorded while in a pretty dark place.
“Over the past couple years I’ve been dealing and continue to deal with clinical depression, and the songs on Dog all seem to reflect a little of my state of mind about that.”
Charlie originally planned to do two records: one by himself and one with a large ensemble. However, this idea ended when he crashed into another bottom and cancelled everything he was working on. The realization then came that he needed to record the songs and move forward. After a recording session at Creation Audio in Minneapolis and having some friends listen to the music, he decided to release the album in 2017. Charlie joined us in the attic lounge at historic War Memorial Auditorium to play us some songs off of Dog and discuss the meaning behind each one.

10:04 "Best Out Of Me"
Caught halfway between the dark swoon of pop-noir, the raw rasp of soul music, and the honest punch of Americana, Suzanne Santo's Ruby Red tells the story of a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who, more than 10 years into an acclaimed career is turning a new corner.
Suzanne Santo first found fame as a member of the well regarded Americana group HONEYHONEY before branching off into a solo career. Hailing from Cleveland, OH, Suzanne pursued careers in both acting and modeling before trying her hand at music professionally. Suzanne played everything from the banjo to violin while also being lead vocals in HONEYHONEY with Ben Jaffe. They released their third album "3" with Rounder Records in 2015 and remained busy penning songs for the TV comedy series, "The Guest House". Suzanne stepped out with her solo project, Ruby Red, in 2017 which allowed her to show off a darker more personal side of her musical personality.
"I think I started writing songs for this record long before I realized I was writing songs for this record. I've identified with a collaboration for so long that the thought of taking a leap into the depths of my own music and having no idea what that would look like definitely came as a shock. Writing the record was bewitching in a way."
Ruby Red is an album about love, life, and lust in the modern world. Suzanne joined us in the attic lounge at historic War Memorial Auditorium to play us some songs off of her solo project and discuss the meaning behind each one.

From Mandolist in Cadillac Sky to singer/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist of The Whistles and the Bells, Bryan Simpson has seemingly done it all. With those achievements under his belt, a long-gestating musical and spiritual awakening pushed Simpson to release his second The Whistles and the Bells LP, “Modern Plagues”. For the sophomore release, Simpson collaborated with co-producer/engineer Eddie Spear (Judah & the Lion, Lake Street Dive, Rival Sons), and a crew of like-minded players, including his longtime cohort and former Cadillac Sky member Matt Menefee. Simpson refers to the LP as “a cosmic dinner party” where he hits on topics from all angles and avoids having one-sided conversations. This especially comes through on songs “Harry Potter”, “Zombie Heartz”, and “Highlight Reel”. Although originally from Fort Worth, The Whistles and the Bells are happy to now call Nashville home.
The Whistles and the Bells joined us in The Attic Lounge at the historic War Memorial Auditorium to discuss songwriting inspiration and love of the Nashville music scene.
