His name is Paul Harvey and he has a beautiful Cessna 182 on floats that he flies out of Maine on a small lake. We wound up spending most of the day chatting, sharing adventures, and him taking me out for a coffee and a burger. On April 1st, 2024 the FAA released the new 111 page CFI Airman Certificate Standards (ACS). It replaces the old 188 page CFI Practical Test Standards (PTS) document. Since the Garmin G5 is replacing a traditionally engine driven vacuum pump gyro based instrument, such as the Attitude Indicator or the Directional Gyro, it needs a backup battery to ensure that it can continue to operate for an extended time period if the aircraft loses its Alternator and Battery electrical power sources. Though it was a last-minute put-together fly-in ,the weather was perfect and the turnout was excellent. There was a good mix of aircraft that stopped by. Everything from amphibious flying boat aircraft like the SeaRey and the bi-wing Super Petrel and the Icon A5, to a couple of Aviat Huskys and Super Cubs on strait and amphib floats, and a few other aircraft types as well that I can’t remember.
