The Catalyst Tim Shoebridge 2023-06-10 | Finding enough time to produce videos is proving to be impossible at the moment. I have five videos in various stages of planning and development but it's going to be a while yet until I can get them over the line :(In the meantime here is a quick jam in glorious 4K called "The Catalyst". Influences Tim Shoebridge 2023-05-27 | It's impossible to suppress our musical influences, they have a stubborn habit of repeatedly materialising in our own music creations. I spent a long time refusing to listen to anyone else's music just in case it influenced my own, but all that happened was I ran out of ideas! In the track that I play in this video can you detect the influences? I deliberately made some very obvious, but others are more subtle.
Jamming on a 15 year old, half broken Yamaha Motif XS! Tim Shoebridge 2023-05-17 | My trusty Kawai MP9000 has started to behave erratically, I'm having to switch it off and on too many times these days, I think it's finally time for it to begin a well-earned retirement. So while I consider a replacement I decided to buy myself a temporary stand-in, a 15 year old, half-broken Yamaha Motif XS. Well I didn't buy it knowingly half broken but that's another story....So this is my first ever Yamaha workstation, I've owned Roland's and Korg's in the past, and I must say that finally after getting some sound out of it I'm loving the "real world" instrument factory samples on the XS; things like acoustic and electric pianos, acoustic guitars, saxes and horns. Must admit I'm not loving the synth presets at all, I think I need to try to program some of my own.But in the meantime, this video is a jam that basically just fell out the very first time I played this Motif XS, the sampled presets just filled me with inspiration and this song was basically the result. Let me know what you think of the sounds, and what your favourite workstation is. Do you own a more recent Motif model, and if so would you say it is definitely worth the upgrade? Matriarch and Melodicer Tim Shoebridge 2023-01-01 | Here is a brief "typing-no-talking" demonstration of the Vermona Melodicer being used in conjunction with the Moog Matriarch and a collection of Behringer 2500 modules. The Melodicer is really the star of the show in this video, admittedly it is an expensive module but if you are patient they do come up on the used market for good prices, that's how I bought mine. And the Matriarch? Even though it's Moog and it sells for a lot of money it is IMHO the Bargain of the Century: Four wonderful sounding VCO's, two beautiful sounding analogue low pass transistor ladder filters in stereo configuration, two gorgeous sounding analogue bucket brigade delays in stereo configuration, and more modular patch points than you can shake a stick at. What's not to like?!
