This is fitting because the album acts as a vehicle to walk the listener through the experiences, philosophies, vices, and privileges that have molded Tanner into the person he is today.The album ends its journey by arriving at Tanner’s life philosophy, “one big seafaring analogy” as he puts it. Many of the metaphors and concepts are derived from the CS Lewis’s book, Mere Christianity. To tie in the song’s (and even the album’s) concept of water and seafaring, a submarine sonar can be heard sounding every so often in the background. In addition to that, you can hear the shrill melody of a Bosun call (a whistle commonly used on naval ships) in the pre-chorus. It took two days to record and not originally part of the track list. The cover took the place of an original called “Hellevator” which was an ambitious hip-hop track tackling Tanner’s history of compulsive porn use. With the album so close to being finished after years of off and on production, Tanner scrapped the song since there was no demo which meant the beat would have to be built entirely from scratch and the rap lyrics addressed themes already hinted at in songs like “Alternative Lifestyle”, “Andromeda”, and “(Running from) The Yin-Twins”. Tanner did not regret this last minute call since the recording was more speedy, more inspired, and turned out more impactful than “Hellevator” ever would have been. The cover song was chosen for a multitude of reasons. Carrying the album’s theme of growing up and the aspects that have made Tanner who he is, “Iris” was released the year Tanner was born and was his first favorite song. His senior year, Tanner would perform this song solo for the high school talent show after his band broke up and backed out last minute with their daring mash-up of “Fire-Escape” by Andrew McMahon and “Beat It” by Michael Jackson. Tanner opened with an embarrassing, nerve induced voice crack and closed to a standing ovation. The concept of the song stems from an old parable- An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.” Tanner, in a season of battling compulsive porn use, found this parable very relatable and since has shaped his pursuit of righteousness around this concept. "Andromeda" rounds out the heart break trilogy by being about his third serious relationship. This song went through four different iterations before landing on where it is now. The title of the song has a double meaning: Andromeda, the constellation, is of a princess in greek mythology who is trapped in chains (a key metaphor in the song). This is also in reference to the constellation Tanner and his former love would always look to when they were apart. Exodus was written for Tanner’s Guitar Instrumentation final which challenged him to write and perform an original guitar piece that included a particular set of chords and a solo section. This song was regarded by the instructor as experimental and progressive. Another interesting fact about this song is that it is not written from Tanner’s perspective! Clouded within an allegorization of the stories of Moses and Joshua in scripture, Exodus is about a close friend of Tanner's who lost their father at a young age and grew up as a loner. Written in anticipation of Tanner’s first year in MTSU’s Songwriting program, the song mostly reminisces over growing up in his hometown and his relationships there. “This is 20” features a retro synth in the background meant to rekindle nostalgia of watching VHS tapes with his family growing up. The song sprinkles in additional nostalgic sound bites stemming from other TV shows and video games Tanner grew up with. The song itself is wild and bizarre, purposely meant to deceive listeners' expectations of what the album might sound like. It was important for Tanner to press home that his music is unique and separate from any traditional writing style. The sudden hip-hop bridge (which went through many revisions before the final product) further expresses Tanner's musical range as well as asserts the underlying concept of the album.

Old Niles Ferry archives the people and experiences that made Tanner who he is today. The old-timey radio and GPS sounds is indicative of Tanner’s life journey up to the present, “Old Niles Ferry” being the road Tanner grew up on. Breaking through the static is the Sesame Street song “Doin’ the Pigeon” symbolic of his childhood and what he was raised on. The radio signal then shifts to the oldie, “Cheek to Cheek” performed by Fred Astaire, a song heavily featured in Tanner’s long time favorite film- The Green Mile.
