Signed to EMI in 2001, she began work on her debut record Poles Apart, which would be released a year later in 2002. The record was showered with accolades, including two Geraas Awards (Best Newcomer, Best Rock Album) and SAMA (South African Music Association) Rock Album of the Year, among others. Both national and international press praised Zoid to the heavens, naming her 'One of South Africa's Top 100 people' and in another publication 'One of South Africa's Top 6 Rising Stars.' The release of her 2003 sophomore project Chasing the Sun was met with more widespread recognition than its predecessor as more press and fans got on the Zoid bandwagon. Both her first two records achieved gold status, building up enough international demand that Zoid began touring both on and off her native soil. 2004 found Zoid performing all over Europe and newly married to her guitarist/collaborator Don Reinecke. Her Time magazine appearance that year marked her as a media figure of such weight that national press began referring to South African youth as the 'Zoid Generation.' Her third record Media was released in 2005. Olsen is best known as one of the front men for early 2000‘s alternative rock band Perez. The band enjoyed success with songs like ‘Picture Perfect’, ‘Dreams and Troubles’ and ‘Wasted Out’. Nic was a member of The Parlotones for a short while in 2009 and contributed to the band’s song writing up until 2018. Notable tracks include the band’s well-known hit “Push me to the Floor”. With the introduction of Tom Hughes (FUZIGISH / Vulvodynia) on drums, SonOfOld has a much more potent rhythmic drive when compared to the 2020 release. The sound is heavier, more guitar orientated and quite clearly Rock music. This is more than evident on the new track as Nic explains, “For me this track has a Nirvana-esque feel mixed with the Neil Young and Crazy Horse album “Ragged Glory.” It was a track I did not think would cut it at first, but somehow came together well in the studio.”SonOfOld started with the release of two albums simultaneously in 2008, Change is How you Feel and 3% Baby. Both albums were well received by Rolling Stone Magazine Germany and Musik Express. Following the releases of 2008 Nic embarked on a busy touring schedule with Perez and the Parlotones and then after returning to Germany in 2009 more touring with Sonofold. It was a busy period during which Olsen met well-known German drummer Florian Schanze (Massive Tone ; Obliterations , Pink Mountaintops , Dudeman) who became Sonofold’s second member. After many hours of jamming, writing and touring with bands like The Wave Pictures, The Rural Alberta Advantage and Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine this two-piece rock band version of Sonofold resulted in the release of a third full length album referred to as “The Wolf Album” (2011) This album was recorded in Chicago with well-known engineer Steve Albini. (Pixies, Breeders, Nirvana and many more). Shortly after the release of the Wolf Album Florian got an offer to join a band based on Los Angeles. Olsen then moved back to South Africa. After a 9-year break of releasing music as Sonofold, Olsen returned in 2020 with a self-titled album “Sonofold”. The album was produced by drummer Tom Hughes (FUZIGISH, Vulvodynia) and the material was mostly sourced from material written between 2009 and 2018. After the release of the album Nic and Tom managed to play a few shows together showcasing as much of the music as possible given the circumstances surrounding the global pandemic. In early 2021 the two decided to get back into the studio. The result is the forthcoming EP “Ghosts” (out 04 March 2022). After crafting the initial ideas for the beat, the next step was to find an amazing Nigerian vocalist, to give the track the right flavor. Enter, Moses Agboola, popularly known as Mo Eazy, A Nigerian – British Afrobeat artist, who was born in the ancient city of Kano NIGERIA. His family eventually settled in South London, UK, where he spent years developing his unique brand of African influenced Hip Hop music. Though he lived in the UK for the good part of his life, Mo Eazy is well grounded in his African heritage. By combining his native tongue and homegrown rhythms with Western musical influences, he has created a unique style and sound that’s increasingly gaining favouritism with fans across Africa and beyond. After seeing the buzz the track created online during the campaign, Audio Militia got to work on a full length version of the track, planned for release on all major streaming services and radio stations in late 2021. To add the finishing touches to the track, they decided to collaborate with the incredibly talented female Nigerian music star, Looking for Avala. Born Saidat Balogun, the Afro House queen, who was also a star on Big Brother Nigeria, has had her feet in the entertainment industry for a while. Olsen is best known as one of the front men for early 2000‘s alternative rock band Perez. The band enjoyed success with songs like ‘Picture Perfect’, ‘Dreams and Troubles’ and ‘Wasted Out’. Nic was a member of The Parlotones for a short while in 2009 and contributed to the band’s song writing up until 2018. Notable tracks include the band’s well-known hit “Push me to the Floor”. With the introduction of Tom Hughes (FUZIGISH / Vulvodynia) on drums, SonOfOld has a much more potent rhythmic drive when compared to the 2020 release. The sound is heavier, more guitar orientated and quite clearly Rock music. This is more than evident on the new track as Nic explains, “For me this track has a Nirvana-esque feel mixed with the Neil Young and Crazy Horse album “Ragged Glory.” It was a track I did not think would cut it at first, but somehow came together well in the studio.”SonOfOld started with the release of two albums simultaneously in 2008, Change is How you Feel and 3% Baby. Both albums were well received by Rolling Stone Magazine Germany and Musik Express. Following the releases of 2008 Nic embarked on a busy touring schedule with Perez and the Parlotones and then after returning to Germany in 2009 more touring with Sonofold. It was a busy period during which Olsen met well-known German drummer Florian Schanze (Massive Tone ; Obliterations , Pink Mountaintops , Dudeman) who became Sonofold’s second member. After many hours of jamming, writing and touring with bands like The Wave Pictures, The Rural Alberta Advantage and Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine this two-piece rock band version of Sonofold resulted in the release of a third full length album referred to as “The Wolf Album” (2011) This album was recorded in Chicago with well-known engineer Steve Albini. (Pixies, Breeders, Nirvana and many more). Shortly after the release of the Wolf Album Florian got an offer to join a band based on Los Angeles. Olsen then moved back to South Africa. After a 9-year break of releasing music as Sonofold, Olsen returned in 2020 with a self-titled album “Sonofold”. The album was produced by drummer Tom Hughes (FUZIGISH, Vulvodynia) and the material was mostly sourced from material written between 2009 and 2018. After the release of the album Nic and Tom managed to play a few shows together showcasing as much of the music as possible given the circumstances surrounding the global pandemic. In early 2021 the two decided to get back into the studio. The result is the forthcoming EP “Ghosts” (out 04 March 2022).
