How to attach your Terra Nova footprint to your tent using toggles | Wild camping groundsheet Join Me Outdoors 2023-03-27 | A quick video to show you how I went about attaching my Terra Nova Southern Cross 1 footprint to the tent. As far as I can tell, these toggles will probably fit all/most Terra Nova tents, and possibly Wild Country tents too. It would be great if someone else could confirm that.The cable ties I fitted at first (shown in this video here: youtu.be/P4sKZcV3g-8) were a temporary solution. I found some toggles that looked fit for the job soon after shooting that original video, and ordered a bag to try out.The footprint can now remain attached to my tent in a much more convenient way, meaning that I no longer have to pass my tent peg through two loops at each peg-out point. This system now mimics the system used on my Hilleberg Soulo tent.I might need to adjust the length of the shock cords a little, now that I've moved the connection point from the peg-out loop to the metal eyelet, but that won't be much effort. This was a cold one, and took me on a 19 mile circular walk through snow and ice for an unspoilt view of the stars.Thanks for clicking on my video. Sadly, it was ruled on January 13th this year that wild camping on Dartmoor is no longer a legal right that we have. This ruling has had a big impact on the wild camping community, and there is a petition in place to overturn this judgement, and to legalise wild camping in all UK national parks. If you live in the UK and would like to back this petition, here is the link: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/631241 . A temporary resolution means that permissive access has been granted to some, but not all of the land that was previously accessible to us all. Winter wild camping in the Dartmoor snow | Freezing camp in my Terra Nova Southern Cross 1 tent Join Me Outdoors 2022-12-17 | The forecast said I'd have one hour of snow at 6 o'clock in the morning, but this ended up being my first proper snowy wild camp!Join me for a walk and camp in Dartmoor National Park in the Southwest of England. Temperatures plummeted below freezing on this one, and I was treated to some truly magical snowy scenery all through the day and night (look out for the night time timelapse). Subzero wild camp in gale force winds | Hilleberg Soulo in the Brecon Beacons | Winter camping Join Me Outdoors 2022-12-10 | This was possibly my wildest camp to date - an outing for the Hilleberg Soulo in subzero, stormy conditions in the Brecon Beacons. Winds over 50 mph tore two of my pegs out of the ground!Having not been out for a camp for a number of weeks, I headed to Wales despite the less-than-friendly weather forecast. I just wanted to get out there! So I packed my Hilleberg and headed for Picws Du - a prominent peak that overlooks Llyn Y Fan Fach in the Western Beacons. The wind speeds got up in the night, meaning that I had to take action to keep the tent anchored to the ground.Sadly, the memory card in my GoPro packed up on my walk back to the car. It has taken a lot of hours to recover the scrambled data off the card, and then repair each video file I was able to retrieve, so this video is my best effort at sharing my experience with you. Some clips are still a bit flickery, but I decided to upload this best attempt rather than abandon the video all together. Jetboil and MSR produce stoves that shelter the flame from the wind, but which works best. Watch this video to find out!In this video, I subject three different stoves to wind while they try to boil water in a pot. I've made this test fair and independent because I wanted to see how the three stoves handled the wind. Using three different cooksets ranging from about £50 to about £130 highlights their strong points as well as their weak points.When searching prices online for the three stoves on the day I filmed, the MSR Windburner was available through one retailer at £109.50. Just a few days later, when I came to edit the video, that particular search result was no longer available, so apologies for stating that the Windburner could be bought for £110 in the video. First time wild camping on a beach | Bivvy bag camp by the sea | Outdoor Research Helium Bivy Join Me Outdoors 2022-09-30 | Come along with me for my first wild camp on a beach! I was in my bivvy bag for this trip, waking up to an uninterrupted view of the sea around Exmoor.The tidal range where I live is the second largest range in the world, varying by a whopping 14 metres in height! It's important that you aware of tide times and tide heights if you want to plan a beach camp, but it's even more important when the tides can be so high. The tide times and heights worked out well for me on this trip, and with the weather beginning to cool down, it was a good opportunity to sneak a bivvy camp in before the really cold weather arrives.Near the end of this video, I acknowledge that I have made a few factual mistakes in my videos to date. These mistakes are not deliberate, and they're a bit embarrassing (e.g. getting the hydrostatic head ratings wrong for the Hilleberg Soulo), so I will try to do better at getting things right before uploading. I now have a drone, so come and see the Brecon Beacons in 4K from the sky!My first time sleeping in a tent instead of a bivvy bag for a good few weeks, and I chose my lightweight Naturehike Vik 1. Being a three season tent means that it's nice and cool in warmer temperatures. I picked up a second hand DJI Mini 2 drone last week after looking for a good deal for a few months.
