This is a tutorial for the 6 day route of Pikmin. That might be confusing because the route I show involves completing the Forest of Hope in 2 days, but it's still considered the "6 day" route.
Please forgive a few mistakes that I made in the gameplay, just do your best to remember the overall route and work on your own ability to execute it. If you're curious the major mistakes I made were:
Beginner route doesn't have to have 10 on the far bridge, it depends on how fast you are up to the Sagittarius collection.
Beginner route you should wait for geiger counter because there's no reason to speed up the bridges anyway.
I messed up the snagret execution in the intermediate route because of drowning across the bridge. The timestamp for a correctly executed snagret quick bury is 7:50
I messed up the order of things to collect on day 3. Best is to get the radiation canopy first, then finish with the radar and bolt but it's actually very close.

It's possible to beat the game without ever withdrawing from onions, in fact I've done it deathless and that was one of the first challenge runs I ever did. I've never done an RTA run of onionless and I believe this is the first ever.

The rules for this run, as it's a meme category, are much more lenient. I'm allowed to start on Day 2 because race file runs are more enjoyable, and I use the Pluckaphone which plucks buried pikmin with only a whistle. Though it's a cheat code, it's allowed for this run as there would otherwise be a lot of plucking making the whole thing less enjoyable.

The runs are getting better in execution quality, plan/ route quality, and luck overall.
In general I felt as though the finalisation of the areas was worse than the initial play through. The 2nd day in each zone was worse than the first by overall quality.
I can keep pushing the time down.

I completed it twice back to back with 2 different routes. This will be useful for analysis later to determine a better route than either of them for if anyone attempts this again in the future.
It's very difficult due to the 2x healthbar of the bulbears and littering of objects all over the map.
It's only achievable due to the pluckaphone and the extended day time, but it's still really fun.

Really good start, then it started going downhill in forest navel.
Most of the run was fine but then I got worst possible luck in distant spring 2 days in a row leading to most my blues dying and forcing 2 day rerolls.
It's just for fun, there are really no stakes in this, I got sub 1:30 and that was my goal. I eagerly await any update to the randomiser!

The purpose of this video is to show off the awesome practice romhack that frankly anyone considering speedrunning Pikmin 2 should get, and to make downloading and installation completely transparent, even though the readme that comes with the hack is beyond comprehensive.
This video is aimed at people with a casual interest in Pikmin and want to understand the speedrun a little better, and beginner to mid to high level runners looking to expand their knowledge. This run is unprecedented and absolutely incredible. I am so proud to bring to you not only a 54, but a mid-54, something I considered impossibly unlikely. If you'd told me this a couple of months ago even, I'd laugh in your face.

I don't think this will be easy to beat at all, and I'm not going to be the one who does it. This is my last all parts PB unless something massive comes along. I'm happy my final time will be what I consider representative of my skill level.
I can barely fault the run. There are a few gameplay errors here and there that add up, and I'm still a little upset about the cutscenes in DS that could have helped out.
It's been an incredible journey up to this point. I've improved my sum of bests to 52:55, failed countless times, and recently just BARELY missed the 54 twice, with a 55:01 then a 55:05, both with massive unfortunate errors. I suppose a time like this was a long time coming.
Two major shoutouts to runners who have changed my life:

The majority of this run was taken from iid01. He developed this run further than people thought possible and changed the landscape of this run. He still has incredible gameplay to this day and honestly I'm a little paranoid he might come back on NTSC-U and bop me. I'm so proud to continue carrying the torch, for now.

The Wii master, a man with a vast contribution to all Pikmin games, the highest Pikmin IQ, he came along only a year ago, achieved his goal and got out. If it weren't for him humbling me (yes, I was even less humble) and working with me about abstract ideas and small timesaves, getting me thinking again after my hiatus, I would never have gotten close to this time.

Really, this run should have been a 54, I messed up significantly in FT, FOH, heck even in impact site 2.

I never expected to beat my 6:56 again! This was nearly a 6:54 split and it even could have been.
It's not very important in the grand scheme of things, the main levels are more important. It sure is nice to see something that comes so rarely, though!

To put into perspective how insane this is, this was my second attempt past blues today, but my previous IL PB was 12:41... 10 weeks ago. Since then, I've tried beating it. A LOT. I came close only rarely, but by the end I'd always miss some cutscenes. So, to PB by 14 WHOLE SECONDS. Is ABSOLUTELY BONKERS.
By the way, this is definitely not as fast as it can go, but I have to be real, I was popping off, loudly, alone, because of this time.
My sum of best is now 53:33, after this gold + a 3:08 IS2 with new strats. I want to beat that a bit more before I make a strat video on it. In the meantime enjoy this run.

This is faster than the TAS, and no run, segmented, TAS, or otherwise, exists that is faster (as of release, I intend to produce a good TAS some day).
This video is simply a compilation of all my best levels, spliced as if it were a real speedrun.
Each segment is precisely 1 in game day long. There are no cuts in gameplay, although if it were possible to do so, a faster run would be much easier.

I have still never beaten this in all my attempts since, and this was made about 2 years ago.
Forest of Hope 14:40
This is improvable by 10 seconds however there were very few errors.
Forest Navel 13:27 - This one is beatable by a few seconds also, but I have been struggling in FN lately.
Impact Site 3:11
Definitely insanely fast, probably beatable, but I didn't want to grind the level. Instead, I just used my best split from RTA attempts.
Distant Spring 12:20
Improvable by 10 seconds (BUT THAT WOULD BE INSANE). This was absolutely bonkers RNG that lead to not killing the snitchbugs at all. Unfortunately a lot of blues were lost, and you would never see something like this in a real run. It just so happened that my goal was sub 11:50 IL time, I did it in 11:36. I lost a pace that was 11:30 with both snitchbugs killed, I would have preferred to kill them in this video, but I'm not too upset.
Final Trial 3:19
The most modern gamecube stategy, I have 3 3:14 ILs due to how powerful it is. Could maybe go to 3:12 high.
Discrepancies:
My overall timer is slightly incorrect. i'm not sure why this happens but I think it has something to do with the FPS my video was set to vs the recording. I don't really understand NTSC 29.97 FPS stuff. It seems like the actual time is 53:53.090.
In FoH I grew 79 reds but only used 77 in FN.
Pikmin numbers and flower states don't match up between DS and FT.
Technically this is not a full game segmented speedrun due to these discrepancies. However, these are still all my gold splits arranged neatly into a little video. I could have redone FT with the correct numbers and pikmin states to minimise issues and still comfortably sub 54, but I decided against it, instead opting to show my best ever split, not a dumbed down version.

I know this is a departure from my usual content but I wanted to share the song. I think it's great, vaguely familiar, and contains many elements which add to the mystery.
All of the 3 main areas had comparable quality. I lost at least 20s to each of them.
My distant spring was pretty good barring 1 mistake, while my forest navel is still not great.
I will keep trying until next weekend, at which point I ought to switch to marathon-safe strats which lose time. This might be my pb for a while, since I have a marathon run coming up on July 21st at ESA marathon! If you're interested, check it out here:

In my last video, I discussed my discovery of what I thought was invisible bombs. Turns out, those bombs are actually clones, meaning you can use the same bomb twice!
Forest of Hope requires 31 bombs for all the gates you'd want to destroy in a 1 day clear run, but there are only 29 bombs available. Thanks to this now known glitch mechanic, we are able to clone 2 bombs, and fully clear the area in a day with only yellow pikmin!
What does this imply? Well, there are 3 challenge runs which have been improved. The current theories say you can clear pikmin in:
- 6 days without reds
- 22 days deathless and never withdrawing from onions
- 8 days using one one colour per visitable area
- 10 days Yellow Only
At the moment I'm unsure if this changes anything else, but it sure is heccin' cool. Hope you enjoy the video!
About the TAS:
I came up with the route on paper about a week ago, finally sat down and churned it out in the space of a single evening! It's mad that happened, I wasn't even sure this was possible by a frame perfect TAS, turns out there's plenty of time to spare. With a better route and actual TAS-like execution, I'd save around 20-40s. This was literally the first draft of the route, everything I wanted to work, just worked! I'd change a couple things, but it's nice to get it out of the way first try.
The setup:
A snitchbug grabs a bomb and flies into the explosion radius of another bomb. These explosions seemingly trigger the pikmin's bomb, held by the snitchbug, to also explode but as it turns out, the pikmin continues to hold onto an invisible bomb!
Furthermore, both pikmin are completely unscathed in the explosion.
I absolutely wish I hadn't thrown this run away. It was good enough pace at noon and I literally walked into the puffy blowhog's wind like a big dummy. That doesn't matter, I'm glad I discovered a cool new glitch!
I was first to route in all area cutscene skips and came up with setups for all areas. I also discovered that it was often preferable to use a part for the textboxes, though I didn't know why.
Jhawk discovered the method for cutscene skips used today, in which you time your A press for perfect buffers, and forcibly routed in more cutscene skips. He also proved that parts buffer 2 frames, therefore being the preferred choice.
Seriously, practice this and you will save over a minute in your runs easily. Cutscene skips are pretty important at the top level, and there's no reason you shouldn't skip half of them with this consistent buffer method.
Just practice timing the A press, don't spam A after you close the textbox. Take time to put all the parts in the landing site, go to sunset, then practice skipping with proper timing. You'll get the hang of it! It's really not that hard.

Gamecube Version World Record!
I didn't expect it so soon, this run is really great!
Every level had timesave and I got all 3 area cutscene skips.
Seems like I might be able to go for sub 56 soon...
This huge PB pushed me to 2nd place on the leaderboard, and it's the world record in the gamecube version.
I can save most time in the Forest of Hope and Distant spring, and little bits here and there where I wasted frames.
GC WR would not have happened if JHawk had not come up with a wii route for Final Trial that would later be made possible for gamecube. On top of that, he found setups for consistent cutscene skips, and motivated me forward, I admit, when he said he didn't know if I'd ever beat iid.
I would like to point out that the majority of this run was taken from iid01. His optimisations are incredible, and this run is still not quite as high "quality" as his. In fact, iid01's distant spring still blows my mind. I'm stealing his route, but if there was anything faster I could do I would have done it! I would love to have contributed more to this category.

I made some changes so that the route was possible on gamecube. I also liked the idea of seeing some runs side by side, so I recorded myself playing for a couple of hours, and compiled my best runs. This is the result.
On both versions it is very difficult to get correct. A small slip up or some sloppy play caused by trying to be too fast can kill the run. It is too easy to drown a bomb, misthrow a yellow, whistle or dismiss during the fight incorrectly, etc. Therefore, this is a very advanced strategy. If you're willing to accept the risk, you can now save 30 seconds in FT.
I am very excited to see what comes of this project. In the meantime, enjoy this short TAS of the demo!

Tool assisted speedrun. Like my previous romhack TAS, this is not optimal. Sure, I could take 4 times as long to save about 20-40 seconds but I decided to just get the video out there in the state that it is, which is still very fast.
Time finished: 4:12
Timing starts on the A press of the textbox after landing, ends when the final object is sucked into the onion.
Overall, I am more proud of the routing made to achieve this run rather than the execution. Here is a general outline:
- Lure the wollywog closer to the onion while killing it
- Take BLL down to almost 0 health
- Kill the snagret at a distance, allowing 15+ into the group, while also collecting the pellets with a specific number of pikmin
- Lure BLL closer to the base while moving then collecting the wollywog corpse
- Kill BLL and collect the pellets with the final remaining 31 pikmin in the group
- Pluck to a total of 55
- Kill bulblax by baiting a lick then saving the bait pikmin
- Collect the 50 pellet
- Push the 50 pellet with Olimar being carried, for a speed boost

Annoyed about that snagret hole +2:20, even with both treasures i should have been +1:00 maximum; and scx. Losing blues in fc cost me a little too.
Low 1:42 should be soon.
This route is just a test to help decide if sprays are worth it. It loses about 1:40 and the idea is that those sprays, and maybe a couple more, could save that time back during the rest of the run.
This makes use of a glitch which gives the player a bitter spray rather than a spicy spray. The bitter is expected to be used on GK6. The spicies should be used on gates and on longer floors.
More may follow, depending on any future discoveries.

Just a little meme idea I had that's all.
Distant spring has the highest number of obstacles per part, each part has at least one non-standard trick to collect it, in fact all but one them have at least 2 tricks. It’s only natural DS takes the most number of days to complete.
Sometimes a part will clip through the floor due to a sudden application of some force, such as a hitbox from a bridge or bulbear. How it behaves out of bounds is something I've started calling a part warp. I don't know properly how it works, but parts can reappear above ground after a short time, either exactly where it clipped into the ground or, much more usefully, somewhere completely different, like the other side of a gate, or near the landing site. I used this phenomenon a lot for parts in DS.
The distant spring clear was a frustrating one. Lots of individual parts require part pushing. Since my original strategies, I've heavily reduced the distance to push (with better waypoint displacement locations) and the effort required (using object to indirectly push denser parts).
I think I've discovered that my least favourite thing is trying to push parts through gates with wollywogs. I could have finished DS 1-2 days faster if I had gotten PS, ZR and IJ2 through the gate in a single day. After a little while of trying I decided to just continue 1 day slower than it would have been. The low-day completion doesn't matter terribly to me at the moment. I don't expect I will try to lower the human day count completion from 24, which it will be.

The forest navel is in my opinion the hardest area to clear. As you watch, play attention to the timer on the left and you'll see what I mean. About half of the days here are reset heavy and the worst 2 parts to collect in the game are here: guard satellite and anti-dioxin filter. The strategies for both are a little improved since their discovery video, and I'm especially proud of the ADF strategy.
It's possible to beat this in 1 day less at least however I'm not really going for a minimum day completion. The TAS of Red Only, if I ever make one, will show that off.

A tricky area to clear but only due to the day constraint. A TAS could beat this in 4 days and 3 days is possible with an incredibly rare event called a "part warp". 5 days is acceptable, I still have plenty of time for all the other areas.

I used the moonjump cheat to access the ledge to push a bomb down. This simulates a bomb spawning on the lower, accessible ledge. Therefore this cannot be accepted as a full run. It is just a demonstration of the theory.
It IS possible for a bomb to naturally spawn on the lower ledge. This is an incredibly rare occurrence. It has happened to me once ever and I only know of one other instance where it was lower.
Supposing the bomb is lower you can push it to the edge then use it to clip up there. This clip is very very finnicky. Using savestates, I as able to do this a few times but without them i may have struggled. Before I give this a real attempt on console, I will need to figure out a more consistent spot to do the clip.
Anyway, that was the important discovery that enabled us to reach the ledge, pikminless. Killing bulblax is the next phase. This isn't necessarily easy. I only have one shot, so in the real run I will be more careful to have a maximum of 60 deaths (I will have 100 pikmin in the fight). I have plenty of time to do this, as I was done with day 19 way before sunset.
I needed to bypass the stone gate somehow. The next phase was to push the SS into the water, waypoint reset it and then push it in front of the bridge which in turn pushes it onto dry land. You cannot push the safe around the bomb side as the slope is too great. My original idea was to push the safe around to the fire geyser side and then eventually the pikmin would carry it the correct direction. This too proved impossible as I was unable to push it up the slight slopes. I managed to push it further than I thought, using the pikmin carrying olimar and pushing uphill against another slope. To my dismay it didn't work. I expect TAS can collect SS in a day, but I chose to waypoint reset it and finish up.

Enjoy the culmination of countless hours of work and mish mash theories, both in recent days and from over a year ago. I present part 29/30 of the Red Only series.
I could go through the huge list of failed theories, each of which had hours of attempts and trial and error, and I will. This part seems to me like the barrier skip of red only. Everything is stacked against getting this part out of the water.
I cant use another part or object or just olimar to simply push it out of the water. The slope is too steep.
I can't just push it to the shore and waypoint reset it onto land. There's just nowhere that works. It looks like there should be places that work, but after scouring every inch of the shore, it always goes back into the water.
I couldn't replicate the mythical OOB. The ADF once fell out of bounds and then when it reappeared above ground, it was on land. This was a long time ago and I did not film it. Any attempt where I even managed to force the ADF OOB, it would either respawn above ground exactly where it was, or backwards into the pool, never onto dry land. I did however learn a lot about OOB mechanics. I also discovered a cool spot where it would fall OOB by being pushed by a wollywog for a few minutes. All to no avail.
My next theory involved using the beetle. I had had the beetle run into the part many times in the past, and i realised the beetle has high density and pushes INCREDIBLY strongly. All you would have to do is get incredibly lucky, and yes you could get ADF out of the water with the use of the flint beetle. I TAS'd this to prove it, but it isn't replicateable by humans who want to not die of old age.
My next theory was to use the breadbug to pull it onto the land. I tried this in 2 different spots before I discovered the correct one (the first spot the land is at a convex angle, reflecting the part away and in the second one it should be perfect next to the GJ bridge, but the breadbug goes the wrong way!) but in doing so I also learned that the breadbug simply lacks the strength to pull it to shore in 1 go, if at all. I TAS'd this too and I can be quite sure it can't bring it onto shore in the same way pikmin carrying olimar can.
That didn't stop me. In the spot I used in the video now, i pulled the ADF onto land and then used the wollywog corpse to push it even further, then I did something clever and that is a new piece of tech. By unloading the part that was unstable, it actually caused the part to reset slightly. Because the centre of the part was above land, it was technically OUT OF THE WATER. Lastly I could push it even further onto land which was JUST ENOUGH to get pikmin to carry it away. By the way, going to sunset here does not cause the ADF to appear on land. Believe me.
I am sure you could do it faster, possibly getting the collection down to 2 in game days, possibly in a different spot than the one I used. For now I am happy to collect it at all. Thanks for keeping faith and watching this silly little love of mine: Red Only.

I have more theories on this part, something is bound to work.
I collected this once a long time ago red-only. I was pushing it against the slope of the edge of water and land, then it fell out of bounds. When it fell inbounds, it was on land and collectible. I have done the same thing many many times since then, and the best I have gotten was the part respawns where it fell OOB, however most of the time it fell out of bounds it would reappear above ground way back in the water. Never on land.
I promise I will get this legitimately soon, whether I have to use the beetle or not. I want to do a full red only playthrough one day, I will probably stream this on my twitch channel:
