In July of 2017 it was announced that The Great Movie ride would close on August 13, 2017 to be replaced with Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway. This video now serves as a memory of what was there for nearly 30 years.

Jack Sparrow hides. You land right in the middle of a pirate battle, see Captain Barbosa demand the capture of Jack Sparrow, pass through a craibbean town being plundered by pirates all searching for the treasure,meet even more pirates as they sing their jaunty theme, "Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life For Me" You'll meet wily wenches and salty marauders and find out in the end who gets treasure. I'm not sure this ride entirely translates to video - it's pretty dark throughout much of the ride. I also apologize for a few moments where the focus on my camera wanders. I forgot to lock the focus before we boarded. The first minute or two is mostly dark with sound because, well, the ride is mostly dark for the first two minutes. Still a good video and nice HD look at the ride. Flying Super Saturator Roller Coaster at Carowinds coasterimage 2008-09-13 | http://www.coasterimage.com In September of 2008, Carowinds announced a new coaster for 2009 - Carolina Cobra. Exciting news to be sure, but the new coaster was going to be taking the place of the park's Flying Super Saturator coaster. The Flying Super Saturator was a first-of-its-kind coaster from Setpoint. Added to the Carowinds lineup in 2000, the riders glide along suspended from the track above while being bombarded by various interactive water elements controlled by onlookers around the ride. As retaliation, each 4-seat car is capable of dropping a payload of water on guests below. The whole thing made for an enjoyable experience for all involved. Dismantling of the coaster began in August of 2008 and the ride was soon listed for sale. Flying Super Saturator is (was?) one of only two suspended water coasters in the world. Great NorEaster Roller Coaster at Moreys Piers coasterimage 2008-08-09 | http://www.coasterimage.com Think you know the Great Nor'Easter? Think again! New for 2008 - Freedom Flight Seats! Great Nor'Easter is a custom designed Vekoma SLC (Suspended Looping Coaster). Admittedly, these coasters don't have the best reputation among coaster enthusiasts. They tend to give a shakey ride that when combined with a questionable train design leave the rider a little banged up. (enthusiasts often use the term "Hang & Bang" to describe SLC rides) Morey's updated their SLC in 2008 with a newer seat design that reduces most of the 'bang' associated with this style of coaster. Couple that with the fact that they also added a killer lighting scheme to the ride a few years back and you end up with quite a sight at night on the Jersey shore. Laser Roller Coaster Dorney Park coasterimage 2008-07-06 | http://www.coasterimage.com Laser is a classic Schwarzkopf-designed coaster that has been at Dorney Park since 1986. It was originally known as Colossus before being renamed Laser a few years later. Before it found a home at Dorney Park the coaster thrilled riders at a park in Brazil. Laser is a cool little coaster with some very powerful forces - especially in the loop and the trains feature just a lapbar restraint. Dorney Park sold the coaster and 2008 turned out to be its last season. This video shows one complete lap of the ride from lifthill to the final brakes. Voodoo Roller Coaster at Dorney Park - Possessed coasterimage 2008-07-04 | http://www.coasterimage.com New for 2008 at Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom was Voodoo - an impulse coaster launching riders at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour. The coaster resembles an elongated 'U' shape with each end being a tower that the coaster travels up before gravity takes over and it free falls back down. The front spike twists and the back spike uses a holding brake that holds you vertical while facing the ground for a brief moment on your final ascent up the rear spike. An interesting aspect of this coaster is its history. It was originally built in the year 2000 by Six Flags at their Ohio park and known as Superman Ultimate Escape. Four years later when ownership of the park changed and it became Geauga Lake again, the coaster was called Steel Venom. After the 2007 season Geauga Lake removed all of their rides and the coaster made it's way to Allentown and found a home at Dorney Park where it became Voodoo. Fahrenheit Roller Coaster at Hersheypark coasterimage 2008-06-27 | http://www.coasterimage.com New for 2008 at Hersheypark was the Fahrenheit roller coaster. Featuring a 121 foot tall vertical lift hill and a steeper-than-vertical first drop at 97 degrees, it's a ride that caught the attention of coaster fans everywhere. But get beyond that intital lift and drop combo and you'll find that this isn't a one-trick pony. The ride is 2700 feet long, reaches speeds of almost 60 miles per hour and features 6 inversions including the first (and currently only) 'norwegian loop' in the United States. It is somewhat on the short side in terms of ride length, but it's packed full of excitement, gives a great ride and, as I mentioned earlier, has a great location. Sounds like all the ingedients for a must-ride coaster to me. On top of that it has a great station/theme based on an 1880's inventor and the fuel he created for his flying machine - Wildfire. I'd be hard pressed to name more than a handful of roller coasters that just don't let up from the time you leave the station right up until you hit the final brake run, but Maverick is among that rare group. The layout is deceiving with inversions and oddly twisted track, but this ride delivers airtime in abundance throughout the course. It's simply a fun roller coaster to ride. Sky Princess is often thought of as a 'family' coaster and it may indeed be a bit on the tame side, but it's still very high in the fun factor. A great little coaster that gives a very smooth ride. It's a shame that CCI is no longer around, their designs are among the best wooden coasters out there. Pipeline Express - Roller Coaster coasterimage 2007-04-02 | http://www.coasterimage.com Pipeline Express is a crazy little coaster and for that I put together a crazy little video. According to the Roller Coaster Database there were only 5 Bailey Auto Sled coasters ever built. As of 2004 only two remained in operation. Pipeline Express at Wild Water & Wheels in Perterborough, Ontario is one of those two. Basically, the ride is a sled on a track. A flimsy conveyer belt type contraption takes the sleds from the end of the run to the top. You climb approximately 15 million kabillion zillion stairs to the top to board. Snap the seatbelt across your lap and the ride-op gives you a shove. Wheeee! The general speed of the ride seems to depend solely on two things - your weight and how hard the ride-op pushed you. So if you're heavy and the ride-op on duty is juiced up - you're in! Dueling Dragons Roller Coaster - Dragon Challenge at Wizarding World of Harry Potter coasterimage 2007-03-12 | http://www.coasterimage.comDueling Dragons is just one of those rides that is so unique, so different, so fun that you just have to love it. Islands Of Adventure is known for impeccable, awe inspiring, almost "over the top" theming and if you had to choose just one ride at the park to personify that - it'd probably be Dueling Dragons. From the queue that takes you through a dragon ravaged castle to the dragon themed trains, to the well thought out story that backs the ride, to the actual dueling of the ride itself - it's all there. It doesn't hurt that both of these rides would probably stand quite nicely on their own, but when paired up you have a truly one of a kind experience. This video shows both the fire and ice dragons and all of their near miss moments (some even in slow motion). The coasters themselves can be a bit hard to get multiple views of, but are covered quite nicely in this video clip.*** On June 18, 2010 this ride was officially rebranded as Dragon Challenge alongside the opening of The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter at Universal's Island Of Adventure***On October 19, 2011 it was announced that this coaster will no longer 'duel' and is being billed as a "high-speed chase between two coasters." Talon Roller Coaster at Dorney Park coasterimage 2007-03-02 | http://www.coasterimage.com What can I tell you about Talon? It currently resides in my top 10 and is my favorite B&M inverted coaster (of 11 I've ridden). I don't know what it is - I just really like this ride. One of those coasters where the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. I personally recommend riding in the back three rows (6, 7, or 8) contrary to what many think about the better view from the front of the train. In this case you'll get the better ride in the back and a cool little bit of floaty air on the drop into the on-ride photo section. I also prefer the left side as you get the outside swing on the first drop and the wider spin on the zero-g roll. Just some personal preferences for potential riders to consider. Kennywood Park (2004) coasterimage 2007-03-02 | http://www.coasterimage.com Kennywood just keeps getting better every time I visit. I've always liked the park, but it just keeps growing on me more and more with each passing year. They use the tagline "America's Finest Traditional Amusement Park" and I think it fits perfectly. This video is mostly dedicated to the coasters at the park. You'll find shots of Phantom's Revenge, Thunderbolt, Racer, Jackrabbit and even Lil' Phantom. Busch Gardens Williamsburg (2003) coasterimage 2007-03-02 | http://www.coasterimage.com I had been wanting to visit Busch Gardens Williamsburg for a long time - like since before I really got into the whole roller coaster thing. It just never seemed to happen. Cut to spring of 2003 and me being sick of the cold and anticipating the warmer spring weather just around the corner for us in eastern Pennsylvania. What better way to get a jump on the weather and kick start spring (in my mind at least) than a trip a few hundred miles south to Busch Gardens? For opening day even! The park lived up to it's reputation delivering great atmosphere and food that was just as good. Park employees were friendly and spirited about starting the new season. All was right in Williamsburg that day. This video is an attempt to catch just a fraction of that for all to enjoy. The video features 4 of Busch's then 5 coasters (no Big Bad Wolf, but the now relocated Wild Maus is in there) and a few flats and water rides thrown in too. Also some footage from Das Festhaus and the 'fraulein' doing their thing. Strickers Grove coasterimage 2007-02-11 | http://www.coasterimage.com Stricker's Grove is a cute little park that consists of basically one small midway punctuated by two wooden coasters. Here's the kicker - the park is only open to the public two days a year. They generally operate as a park available for private functions, but open their gates to the public on the fourth of July and the second Sunday in August (Family Day). This video includes a little bit of everything - both coasters, some flats, some atmosphere and more. The idea is just to show some of what this small park in southwestern Ohio has to offer. Shivering Timbers Roller Coaster at Michigans Adventure coasterimage 2007-02-11 | http://www.coasterimage.com Shivering Timbers opened in 1998 as essentially the mother of all out and back, airtime wooden coasters. It was immediately a hit with coaster enthusiasts everywhere and still today ranks among the best wooden coasters in the world according to most polls. The layout is hill after hill after hill for over a mile. The support structure only adds to the massive look of the whole ride and it sits right along the parking lot / entrance to the park so it makes a huge first impression to incoming guests.
