![Marc-André Hamelin, piano
Canadian super-virtuoso Marc-André Hamelin takes on a program of some of the repertoires most demanding music. His recorded output is staggering, with over 70 albums to date, full of repertoire that his advocacy helped bring to light, garnering 11 Grammy nominations along the way. His program at the Library included two works that are rarely if ever heard on the same program: Charles Ives monumental Concord sonata, and Maurice Ravels devilishly difficult Gaspard de la nuit. Rounding it off are the beautiful forest scenes by Robert Schumann, and a new work of his own commissioned by the Library of Congress in celebration of 100 years of concerts. This video includes excerpts from the recital of works by Schumann, Ravel and Hamelin.
