🐾 Last night, US 36•Broomfield station went to the dogs — in the best way. More than a dozen future guide pups and their handlers teamed up with RTD to practice navigating a busy transit environment and build confidence for their future roles supporting visually impaired customers.
Handlers and pups boarded and exited our coach-style buses using both the front doors and the accessibility lift, practicing timing, patience, and proper boarding techniques. After everyone was onboard, the group took a short trip to Lafayette to work on alighting together and staying focused as the bus pulled away.
Thank you to RTD instructors Ike Veiga and Daniel Yazzie for sharing their expertise and supporting the group throughout the training.
Boulder Puppies is a volunteer club that partners with Guide Dogs for the Blind to raise and train puppies to become certified guide dogs for visually impaired individuals.
