So there I was in front of my computer looking at songs and my mind was a complete blank. I had no idea what song I was going to cover, and I needed to go live in 5 minutes. So what did I do? I went live and asked you wonderful people what song I should cover, and within 5 minutes John Young had suggested "Hooked on a Feeling", and when he said that I knew immediately that this was the song I had to cover. I was gonna own it, dagnabbit rabbit!
Only time will tell if I succeeded, but having said that I must say also that this is by far the most fun I've had with a cover in months. It's good to let the freak flag fly once in a while (or every second of every day... ya know... whatever floats your boat)

This weeks song is more of a deviation from my normal hard rock offering, and I think it had to be done. Im not sure why, but the creation of these songs is about as spontaneous as can be possible. The songs almost write themselves.
For this one, I was pretty anxious about not having a single acoustic drum hit throughout the whole thing. I even went so far as to create a whole acoustic drum track for the song, but while listening to it, knew almost immediately that they didnt fit.

If Im being honest, when Depeche Mode was on the rise, I didnt like them at all. Being a drummer, this was the age of the synth-drum sound. I hated it. About 10 years later, however, I began listening to The Cure / Information Society / Alphaville / etc... And came to appreciate the music quite a bit. Now I get the best of both worlds! I get the great songwriting of the synth-bands of the eighties along with the sound of the 80s rock I loved!

So, this week I decided to go show off my insanity and write something totally outside of my comfort zone. I couldnt think of a more fitting song for the times in which we live right now. Last week, my good friend Lisa told me that this song had been in her playlist and wanted to share that with me. When I saw the message, I immediately knew I needed to cover it. This song is all about helping one another with what weve got - even if we have nothing but our hands.
I dont know what will happen with this pandemic. I dont know how this virus will ultimately affect all of us. What I do know is that inside each one of us is the power of divinity. We have the power to overcome, and together we can fight whatever comes against us.
