Abstract

Geofeeds allow Network Operators to guide geolocation providers about the locations of their networks. While some Network Operators are already adding additional fields, RFC 8805 A Format for Self-Published IP Geolocation Feeds, does not allow for extensibility or define metadata. "Beyond Geofeeds" will describe the current standard, explore general considerations in a new version, describe a possible implementation and invite others to iterate on it.

William Stevenson:
William Stevenson has worked at MaxMind for over 15 years. He intially started in Business Development, negotiating OEM contracts. He then replaced hard-coded rules in the minFraud service with machine learning after manually reviewing transactions. While working to automate IP geolocation database releases, he became familiar with technical aspects of the build process. This work led to investigating the need for a new geofeed standard to address the needs of an evolving industry. He holds a BA in Philosophy from Princeton University.
