I just posted a video this morning that showed me overstuffing a char tin with Oak catkins, charring them, and then trying the puck of char with flint and steel. When they would only barely ignite, I declared Oak catkins unfit for making char material.
That's too hasty a conclusion. Let's try 2 more experiments, simply... loosely packed catkins charred and also cleaned catkins (leaving just their skeletons) charred.
