Today, I’m lucky enough to go behind scenes and see how they’ve maintained their status as one of the most famous BBQ restaurants in America - this is Arthur Bryant's BBQ in Kansas City, Missouri. What many consider to be the best BBQ in KC!This all started way back in 1908, when a man named Henry Perry, aka “the Father of Kansas City Barbecue” began serving smoked meats for $.25 a slab from an alley stand in Kansas City’s garment district.Brothers Charlie and Arthur Bryant were employees of Perry’s for many years until Henry and Charlie passed away, leaving the business to Arthur. And one man in particular who’s in the trenches and at the center of these efforts is Rob Banghart.The Las Vegas tunnels run all the way to Lake Mead, and in total, there’s more than 600 miles of tunnels that run under Las Vegas. The culprit was an infected sandfly carrying the flesh-eating parasite known as leishmania.There are three main forms of leishmaniasis:① Cutaneous Leishmaniasis, which causes lesions on the skin.② Mucosal Leishmaniasis, which attacks the nose, mouth and throat.③ Visceral leishmaniasis, which attacks your internal organs and severe cases can be fatal.What species of leishmania you have is larger based on where you traveled to. And today, it is hands down the most popular destination in all of Croatia and we only have one day to find the best things to do in Dubrovnik!Taking a walking tour on the walls around Old Town Dubrovnik is most definitely one of the best things to do in Dubrovnik. You get a view of the entire city, Adriatic Sea, and surrounding Croatian mountain range. This is the true essence of Croatian Food, and a perfect pitstop on our Croatia Road Trip.We stay at Goran's grandparents house in the traditional Croatian village of Čepikuće. It is a beautiful town that is close to Ston and Mali Ston.On our way to Ston, Croatia there is a place where you can get some of the freshest oysters and mussels in the world! These oysters are so delicious, and we have the privilege to go out on a boat and see the harvesting process first-hand. This really makes you appreciate the food we passively eat.Onward to the small town of Ston and neighboring Mali Ston (which just means little Ston). Two of the most Disney fairytale-like towns you’ll ever come across. It is an incredible region that most people skip because they travel direct to Split or Dubrovnik.Another major reason why this is my favorite place in Croatia is because you have direct access to the island of Mljet. Mljet is an unspoiled island paradise that very few visitors take the time to explore. It’s said to be Croatia’s greenest island, with dense mediterranean forest and clear, clean water. On the Western end is an extensive National Park covering 5400 hectares of land and sea.One of the most interesting attractions within the national park itself is St Mary’s Island; home to an incredible 12th Century Benedictine Monastery. Dating all the way back to ancient Greco-Roman geographers, The Romanesque Monastery has been rebuilt several times, and still features it’s original Roman ruins. Hvar is said to be the most expensive island in all of Croatia. We came to find the best things to do in Hvar in just one day - between the luxury and the local experiences.Hvar Fortress - Much like the rest of Croatia, this landmark has changed hands many times throughout history. A form of this modern structure was originally built as protection against pirates, but it turned out to be a major attack by the turks in 1571 that proved the value of these walls. They burned the entire town to the ground, but luckily the citizens of Hvar were able to find safe shelter up here. Eventually Hvar lost its strategic importance and the fort was turned into a disco, and now, a museum with some incredible views. Seeing the Fortress is definitely one of the best things to do in Hvar.Pokonji dol Beach - A great local beach close to old town Hvar.Laganini Lounge - let’s call it what it is, Croatia has become a hot spot for summertime fun. Influencers, Athletes and Affluent people, all crowd in for "yacht week" and beach parties. The Croatian coastline, especially here between Split and Dubrovnik are right up there with Italy, Greece, Ibiza, and the South of France for decadent vacations. Since we have been on a Croatia Road Trip across the country on a budget, we haven’t really got to experience the fancier side of things to do in Hvar. Today, we change that by going to Laganini Lounge via a short taxi boat ride from Hvar Old Town.Local Dinner - While I was planning this Croatia trip, a good friend of mine from back home said if we ever made it Hvar, his family would love to invite us over for dinner and make a traditional Croatian meal - Peka. We had local Hvar Wine, amazing prosciutto and cheese and I learned how to make Peka. Dalmatian Prosciutto & Cheese - Our Croatian Food Tour begins literally inside the walls of Diocletian's Palace (Štorija Fine Dining) for some champagne and a few quintessential appetizers. The Prosciutto is from the town of Drniš; famous for their prosciutto making thanks to the dry bura (bora) wind that passes through the area.2. Local Seafood - Next up, it's time for locally-sourced Croatian seafood at Leonis Restaurant right in old town Split. Delicious octopus salad and cuttlefish risotto were the two Croatian dishes we tried here.3. Traditional Konoba - We first visited a traditional Croatian Konoba (tavern) on the Istria food tour, and this location didn't disappoint either. The star of the show was Pašticada; a slow-cooked Croatian food staple that is as delicious as it is hearty.4. Burek - A Croatian food tour wouldn't be complete without a stop for Burek. The best place to eat Burek in Split is said to be at this place, St. Burek. I would agree.5. Founded as a Greek Colony way back in the 3rd century, and later the home of Roman emperor Diocletian. From there, waves of foreign control shifted throughout history as the Byzantine, Venitian, Austria-Hungary, French, German, Dothraki, and most recently, Yugoslavia, have all had their moment in time here.Empires, Republics, and Kingdoms have all come and gone, but the walls of Diocletian's Palace have remained.Here is my top 10 list of the best things to do in Split, Croatia in just one day!1. Get Up EarlyOne of the absolute best things to do in Split, Croatia is to wake up early and go walk around the old town of Diocletian's Palace. Split gets very crowded with boat tours and tourists after about 8am, so if you want to enjoy Split and all of her beauty, I highly recommend an early start!2. Bakery BreakfastOne of the most popular things to do in Split is to walk down along the Riva Promenade and this is where you can find a number of bakeries for breakfast.3. Walk the Riva PromenadeThe Riva promenade is where everyone comes and goes on their Croatia boat charters and there’s a ton of little stalls setup with local crafts and Croatian food. 4. Shop the Ribarnica (Fish Market) in SplitIf you are up early enough you can visit the city’s fish market right in the heart of old town, where you can pick up a fresh catch straight from the Adriatic at a good price - perfect if you’re on a budget and want to cook Croatian food at home. 5. Explore the Green Market of SplitFor fruits and veggies, the farmer’s market just outside the ancient palace walls is another great place to get a taste of something local. The Green Market is open every day.6. Enjoy Bačvice Beach in downtown Split, CroatiaNow, most of you who come to visit Split will likely head out on a boat or yacht for more beautiful beaches and water, but if you have an extra day in the city like we do before we ship off to Hvar, this is a very convenient spot to cool off.7. Play Picigin on Bačvice BeachThe must-play Croatian water game is called Picigin, and is said to have originated right here. Traditionally played with the interior of a tennis ball Picigin is a mix of volleyball and handball. There’s no formal rules, point or winners, but the goal is to pass around the ball with the most creative and spectacular rallies possible. Honestly, this was probably my favorite thing to do in Split! 8. Hike Up MarjanFor a great view over Split, hike up Marjan to the viewpoint over the city.9. Eat at Pizzeria GalijaCroatia has incredible Italian Food, and this is one of the best pizzas I've had! For more traditional Croatian food, Fife Restaurant in downtown Split is also very good!10. Željava AirbaseIt’s true, the airplane (kind of plane) is just the tip of the iceberg here. Željava Airbase was Yugoslavia’s largest underground military airbase, and one of the most expensive military projects Europe had ever seen.Yugoslavia spent the equivalent of $6 to 8 Billion dollars in the 50s and 60s on the Željava airbase over the course of its 20-year construction, finally completing in 1968.The incredibly designed complex stretched 3.5km underground.Protected by the surrounding mountains, It had 4 different entrances, secured with 110 pressurized doors, and 5 different runways in case of attack. It had its own water source, power generators, fuel supply, air conditioning, food quarters, and a mess hall that could feed 1,000 people at once.However, because of its incredible power, During the Homeland War or Croatian War of Independence, the JNA (Yugoslav People’s Army) or Yugoslav National Army, set out on a year-long mission to destroy the Željava Air base, and in 1992 56 tons of missiles were used to bomb it until consumed with internal fires. They also mined the surrounding area.It hasn’t been in operation since the war, and Today, it’s still monitored by police and border patrol. Cetina Back on the backroads, straddling the Bosnia and Herzegovina border in 90* heat and no air conditioning, our last stop was a necessary one - we just had no idea how refreshing it was going to be!Split, Croatia.After a full-on day exploring some lesser-known Croatian sites and experiences, we finally make it to the popular coastal city of Split.Where we make the obligatory stop for gelato. It is one of the most historically significant places on the planet. It is definitely a place for more advanced travelers that want to embrace the adventure, and if you’re not a well-seasoned traveler; my best advice is to just find a really good guide.Truthfully, the place you will have the most issues on your entire trip is the Pyramids of Giza. 13 teens just got arrested for harassing girls, and they were just as aggressive with us. They just surround you and want selfies - but there is no real danger in this. If we compare Egypt to let's say Brazil, I think it is very safe. In many places around Latin America you have to be worried about being robbed at gunpoint, car jacked, pickpocketed and much more.In Egypt, you just have to look out for scammers, hecklers, gawkers, and people trying to sell you things or get undeserved tips from you. Tours are affordable, and transportation can also be done on a budget. HOW WERE THE POLICE?We did not have trouble filming at all. We were usually either with local friends or a tour guide, and they opened many doors for us. We filmed as low-key as possible, and we removed our microphones for the majority of our trip. We also did not bring drones.As for Egyptian Police, we truly did not have any issues. Whenever necessary, I explained that I was an American photographer or YouTuber and they were honestly just excited. This is the Temple of Edfu. One of the best preserved shrines in all of Egypt. So many stories and pharaohs and gods, it’ll make your head spin, but the biggest thing to remember is that this place is primarily dedicated to the Egyptian God Horus and Egyptian Goddess Hathor; two of the most significant deities of Ancient Egypt.Over the centuries, the temple was forgotten and became buried under almost 40 feet of sand and silt from the Nile, and locals even built their homes over the submerged temple grounds.How this place could have ever been taken fore-granted, blows my mind.Nile River Cruise: Back onboard, we continue upstream and pass through the river’s lock system. Which apparently is the perfect place to do your souvenir shopping. Once we’re in the clear, it’s smooth sailing the rest of the way up to Luxor.Karnak Temples: As our cruise ship docks along the Nile in Luxor, we end our time on the water and immediately set out to discover why people characterize this city as the “world’s greatest open-air museum.”Karnak Temple or simple Karnak is said to be the second most visited site in Egypt behind the Pyramids in Giza. The key difference between Karnak and most of the other temples and sites in Egypt is the length of time it was developed and used. 30 different pharaohs contributed to the buildings, enabling it to reach such a size, complexity, and diversity not seen elsewhere.And then right down the Spinx Avenue from Karnak is the world famous Luxor Temple.Luxor Temple: Unlike the other temples, Luxor Temple is not dedicated to a specific god or pharaoh in death, instead, it is dedicated to the rejuvenation of kingship - basically an important place where kings were crowned. Alexander the Great even claims he was crowned here.Kids, skip school and come to Luxor. it’s a history book in real-life.Habu Temple: Last but certainly not least, my personal favorite of three… Habu TempleBack across the river, on the West Bank of the Nile rests the grounds of Medinet Habu or the city of Habu. An expansive complex that was built by Ramses III and dedicated to the Egyptian God, Amun; and this place has so many incredible features.Truthfully, we could go on and on about the fascinating aspects of this place, from it’s abnormally deep carvings to the ceremonies performed here, but at the risk of overwhelming you with temple footage, we press on. Valley of Kings: Long story short, Many Egyptian Kings and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom had the same big dream; to be buried at the Pyramids of Giza; as the pyramids are 2,000 years older than this site. The Philae Temple complex is primarily dedicated to the Egyptian Goddess, Isis, the mother of all gods, goddess of the sky, moon, healing, and magic among other spiritual powers. It served as a protective boundary and barracks for Egyptian Pharaohs, and then also for the Greeks and Romans during each of their respective time controlling this region. Which is why you can see Monuments of varies eras extending from the Pharaohs to the Caesars. Including an amazing structure called Trajan’s Kiosk, the unfinished monument dedicated to the Roman Emperor, Trajan.From the Philae Temple, we made our way back down the Nile River past Aswan. The city of Aswan was a frontier town of Ancient Egypt, even mentioned in the bible under its original name.Aswan was a trade center, serving as the gateway to Sudan and Ethiopia. Occupied by the Persians, then the Greeks and then the Romans, I mean, we’re traversing up one of the most important waterways in the history of the world, it’s just crazy to wrap my head around.To this day, one indigenous group still calls this place home - the Nubians.The Nubian People are an ethnic group who are indigenous to Nubia or the modern day region of northern Sudan and southern Egypt. Nubians originate from the early inhabitants of the central Nile Valley, and they speak their own Nubian languages, as well as Arabic and some English.While this is considered a traditional Nubian village, I highly doubt their ancestors sold so many plastic camels.However, they are a trading people, and for today’s Nubians here, they’re trading handmade trinkets and souvenirs for foreigner cash. Inside Egypts Overnight Sleeper Train 🇪🇬 Cairo to Aswan, Egypt Gareth Leonard 2022-04-09 | 🍿WATCH NEXT: Train Travel Across Russia ► youtu.be/Kl1cLEa9YvM🔔 PLEASE SUBSCRIBE, for more travel vlogs ► bit.ly/you-da-best👕 15% OFF CUTS Clothing ► https://cuts.team/traveldeeperCairo, Egypt - After a 9-hour drive from Siwa Oasis, Egypt we arrived back to bustling Cairo to take the overnight sleeper train from Cairo Station to Aswan, Egypt.Siwa Oasis was incredible, one of my favorite places to go in Egypt, but the wild 48 hours left exhausted and ready for a long train journey to sleep, haha!I should tell you, there is a much quicker and easier way to get to Aswan - via an 1 hour and 20 minute flight that’s roughly the same cost of this train ticket; around $80 US Dollars or about $1,400 Egyptian Pounds - one way. But, we figure the train also saves us the cost of a night stay, and two meals. Plus, it’s just a lot more fun.*Also, you can take the same train to Luxor if you don't want to go all the way to Aswan. The overnight sleeper train from Cairo actually stops at Luxor Station first before arriving in Aswan.The overnight sleeper train from Cairo to Aswan is supposed to be a 12-hour journey, but it very often departs late from Cairo and arrives late to Aswan (which is exactly what happened to us).We booked our tickets at the Cairo Train station in-person a few days in advance. There are websites that say you can book online, but honestly, I didn't trust the information. I would rather go to the Cairo Train Station and book the train ticket directly.Overall, the overnight sleeper train from Cairo to Aswan was very relaxing and stress-free. The only advice I would give is to ask around at the Cairo train station before boarding to ensure you are getting on the right train.That's it! THE COOLEST TOWN in EGYPT 🇪🇬 Siwa Oasis Travel Guide Gareth Leonard 2022-04-02 | 🍿WATCH NEXT First 24 Hours in Egypt ► youtu.be/8bl3wPRuzP0🔔 PLEASE SUBSCRIBE, for more travel vlogs ► bit.ly/you-da-best👕 15% OFF CUTS Clothing ► https://cuts.team/traveldeeperSiwa Oasis, Egypt - The urban oasis of Siwa is one of Egypt’s most isolated settlements with a population of about 33,000 people, mostly made of Berbers; an ethnic group indigenous to North Africa, and being so remote, they’ve developed their own unique desert culture.Almost Every Egyptian friend we spoke with since the beginning of our trip in Cairo told us we should go east towards Sharm El Sheik and Dahab first, instead of Siwa Oasis. They said the mountains are beautiful and the Red Sea beach resorts are pristine and relaxing… but instead, we chose to go West. a grueling 9-hour journey towards the Libyan border all because I saw a photo of place that looked so unique to anything I’d ever experienced. The ancient Citadel of Shali, rising up through the heart of modern downtown Siwa, tucked away in Egypt’s Western Desert. It looked so different and foreign in photographs and now walking up through here in person proved that unwavering urge to be true.This fortified city was built by Berber populations in the 13th century to protect inhabitants from wandering tribes. Inspired by last night’s dinner at El Prince Restaurant I can’t wait to dive deeper into Egyptian cuisine with local friends, and inevitably, learn a lot more about Egyptian culture in the process...We start with a traditional Egyptian Breakfast at Ful Waheed in the Ramses neighborhood of Cairo, Egypt. Ful is stewed fava beans with tahini, cumin, chili powder, and other spices topped with a generous amount of oil and the option of raw hot peppers and red onions. Served with a ton of veggies, tahini, chips, and Ful Waheed’s famous Shrimp Fries.Next up, we walk through Cairo’s largest market and most famous bazaar; Khan el-Khalili. This is definitely one of the best things to do in Cairo. We stop for tea at El Fishawi Cafe before lunch.For an Egyptian Street Food lunch, we go to Koshary Abo Tarek in Cairo for Egypt’s National Dish - Koshary. A blue collar dish that has rice, pasta, lentils, chickpeas (hummus), fried onions, and topped with a seasoned tomato sauce. Koshary (or Kushari or Koshari) is a hearty bowl of carbs that would be enough to eat for a day by itself… we press on!For a quick mid-day Egyptian street food desert, El Karnak in Cairo serves Combella, an Egyptian food classic that is a delicious combination of rice pudding, Kunafa, Basbousa, mango and strawberry juice, homemade cream, and fresh fruit.One more tea break at Mohamed Salad Coffee Shop in downtown Cairo, Egypt and then it’s time for dinner at one of the best restaurants in Cairo or Giza.Hawawshi El Rabea in Imbaba Giza is said to be the best restaurant in Egypt for this traditional Egyptian street food. Hawawshi is thin, seasoned beef patties wrapped in traditional Egyptian bread and grilled on a flattop. It is served with tahini and vegetables.The coolest thing about this spot is that they actually own the butcher shop right across the street as well to ensure the freshest, best quality meat in their Hawashi. And the owner Wael Rabe, is meticulous about his craft. After 27+ hours of flying from San Diego to Egypt, we made it to our hotel in Giza, Egypt; with an amazing view of the Pyramids.► Giza Pyramids Hotel: Guardian Guest HouseWe’re so anxious to get started, that the Great Pyramids of Giza gates aren’t even open yet. The sign at the Pyramids gate says 7am.. but that’s just a reference point. At about 7:45 the doors open, we buy a ticket, and get passed the Egyptian guard dogs. Before the Pyramid tour buses show up for the day, we literally have the entire great Pyramids of Giza all to ourselves, if only for a fleeting moment.► Egyptian Pyramids Guide: Amun Tours (amuntours.com)9:00am - All the Pyramid Tours file into the massive Giza complex, and we meet up with our guide. I was very happy to have a guide for the pyramids because there is SOOO much information here!I paid for an extra ticket to go inside Khufu's pyramid; the largest pyramid of Giza. Truthfully, there really isn’t much to see inside. It’s a long tunnel makeshift stairway leading up to one small room.But it’s the idea... The understanding of how significant the Pyramid once was, and the realization of the Egyptian footsteps you’re walking in. For nearly 4,000 years, Kufu’s tomb was the tallest building in the world. Originally 480 feet tall, but now sits around 450 feet because of erosion. My biggest takeaway from this morning’s visit to the Pyramids of Egypt are how mysterious this place still is. The majority of the complex is still uncovered. You gotta think there’s still so much under all of these surrounding rock and sand mounds. Scientists are still excavating, digging, and trying to put the pieces together.The Great Pyramids of Giza are absolutely fascinating, and if you’re watching this Egypt Travel Vlog for inspiration - here’s me telling you to make the trip happen. You won’t regret it. We finish my first day in Egypt with a trip to one of the best restaurants in Cairo (Giza side actually); El Prince Restaurant. Egyptian people love the traditional Egyptian food here, and I had no clue what I was getting into!Our local Egyptian friend Ziad sets us up with all the Egyptian food staples such as, Molokhia (green soup), Kebda (liver), Sogo (mini sausages), and Hawawshi (seasoned beef patties in a pita). and Ziad’s personal favorite, thinly sliced steak, quickly seared and tossed in garlic tomatoes and onions. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, drunk off all the excitement of my first Egyptian food, but if this is any indication of how we’ll be eating here in Egypt over the next two weeks, I’ll be a very happy man. West Yellowstone is a small cozy town focused on Yellowstone Tours and accommodations, but it also has great restaurants and things to do outside of Yellowstone.One of those very popular things to do in West Yellowstone is rent snowmobiles (Yellowstone Vacations) and tour the incredible snowmobiling trails outside the park.All kitted out by Yellowstone Vacations, we attempt to tackle Two Top Trail; A popular 30 mile loop that crosses into Idaho, with a 2,000-foot elevation gain and plenty of open space to take it all in.Now, the absolute best part about coming to Yellowstone in the winter is that you get a fraction of the visitors; We’re talking hundreds versus millions.The Yellowstone roads are all closed off to private cars, so you have to get round by tour bus or snowmobile. And let me tell you, this is the way to go.We don’t have a set plan this morning, the only thing that was time sensitive was getting to Old Faithful in time before she blew, and it was a race to make it happen. Did you know there was once an estimated 60 million bison roaming free across the Great Plains.With a demand for conquering the west after the Civil War in 1865, the great slaughter began and by 1889, only some 500 bison remained alive in the United States. Most of these were in zoos, private refuges and here at Yellowstone.Long, heartbreaking story short, laws were finally passed to protect them right at the edge of extinction. Today, there’s about 5,000 bison alive and roaming in Yellowstone, far from abundance they once knew, but the population is stable.Which makes seeing them in real life like this very special.In the afternoon, we cover as much ground as possible. Searching high and low for wildlife, and taking in this majestic landscape of Yellowstone National Park!White mountains are lined with snow-covered pine trees with ice blue rivers cutting through the valley and smoke rising from the geothermal activity below. Swans, geese and eagles soar ahead and herds of bison push through snowfall to graze along the valley.The Nation’s oldest National Park, all of her 2.2 million acres, is truly incredible and I have only just begun to scratch the surface. We’re told there’s a massive abandoned Mayan city deep in the Mexican jungle outside Chetumal and Bacalar, Mexico. I have been to the Maya Ruins in Tulum, Chichen Itza and the Coba Mayan Ruins in the Yucatán Peninsula. All were fascinating but pretty crowded with tourists. I wanted to travel deeper! As the rest of the crew made their way back to the Chetumal airport to fly home, myself, Branden and our trusty driver Francisco pick up our new guide, Antonio, and a local guide Eddie to take us even deeper into the Mexican jungle to find untouched Mayan ruins.After over an hour of driving through the jungle, we arrive in the abandoned ancient Mayan city of Chichan-Ha, and you’ll find very little information about it online. Eddie tells me it was only discovered as a side effect from the demand of chewing gum. Apparently, during the first world war, chewing gum became so popular for the boys going off to fight that the Chico Sapote tree, the one that produces the resin for natural chewing gum, became very valuable - and thus people would travel deep into the jungle to find it.Thankfully, the tree takes about 15 to 20 years to cultivate so once people extracted all they could, they left the area and forgot all about the ruins. Also, the long difficult drive through the jungle has kept them pretty protected ever since.That afternoon, as our time here in the Mexican Caribbean quickly slips away, there’s just one more place I want to experience to cap off this Mayan-focused expedition. After a delicious Mexican Food lunch outside Chetumal, we visit one final Mayan Ruins site called Kohunlich.he incredibly well-preserved ruins of Kohunlich. It’s Tulum or Chitchan Iza without the people. Literally, nobody.The ancient city of Kohunlich covers 21 acres surrounded by tropical rainforest. It was elaborately planned and engineered with raised platforms, plazas, pyramids, citadels and courtyards, and the craziest part is, what we see is only the tip of the iceberg, the majority of this site remains unexcavated. Finishing the trip here provides even more appreciate for this unbelievable civilization. Walking among these historical footsteps and just imagining what life was like here gives me such an an amazing energy, and a feeling that I’m honestly gunna miss. Kayaking on the "7 Color Lake" is most definitely one of the best things to do in Bacalar.It’s crazy to think that this lake in Bacalar, like most bodies of water here in the Yucatán Peninsula, is fed by underground rivers and the colors come out this crystal clear and pristine.Downtown Bacalar is a calm and quiet little village with thatched roofs and colorful streets. everybody I spoke to for recommendations about this place mentioned I had to stop for breakfast at El Socio, right in the heart of Bacalar for breakfast.Another amazing things to do in Bacalar is to take a a two-hour drive southeast of Bacalar, past Mahahual, we end up in Xcalak; a sleepy fishing community of less than 400 residents that rests within one of the last “unspoiled” stretches of the Mexican Caribbean. Xcalak is simple, raw, underdeveloped, beautiful, and to understand why people settled here, we gotta get out on the water. This is one of the best things to do in Xcalak. This is the very southeastern-most tip of Mexico with Belize within eye sight, a tiny nook in this world that very few people explore.Honestly, my expectations were pretty low for this expedition of snorkeling off the coast of Xcalak. Our travel guide Antonio tells us that manatees are getting harder and harder to spot because they’re leaving these warming rivers for deeper cooler waters of the Xcalak reef. But as I swim out past the shallow coral reef, towards the blue abyss, two giant objects coming straight towards me. First thought obviously is always shark, then dolphin, then maybe chunky mermaid, but no. it was what we all hoped for. It’s something that i’ve always wanted to see in the wild - two, beautiful, smooth manatees just cruising past. As I dive down to get a closer look, one actually turns around and circles right in front of me. It’s heart-pounding and peaceful.For a split second, it fell like we share a moment. I know he’s probably just thinking “look at this idiot trying to swim” but I feel it. And as mysteriously as they appeared from the cloudy depths, they disappear the same way. It is the coolest feeling.We make one final stop in Buena Vista on our way back to Bacalar from Xcalak to sample delicious, authentic Mayan honey from stingless bees.Finally, we end the day at The Yak Lake House for dinner. Here are the best things to do in Bacalar, Mexico in one day!Cenote Azul - Cenote Azul is one of the deepest cenotes in all of the Riviera Maya, at some 90 Meters or 290 feet deep and this beautiful dark blue pool presses right up against the ridiculously tropical turquoise waters of the lagoon, which we’ll jump into next.Fort San Felipe - Spanish Conquistadors successfully took Bacalar in 1543, but that didn’t stop pirates from raiding and terrorizing this paradise all throughout the 1600’s. They could easily enter up through a canal in the lagoon, so this fort was incredibly important to protect the city from, well, yet another intruder. Bacalar Lagoon Boat Tour - Now, I promise this isn’t just another boat trip scene, this insanely gorgeous, freshwater lagoon is known as Lake of Seven Colors, as the variety of blue and turquoise hues make this place so unique. A White sandy bottom, cloud coverage and water depth causes colors to morph into varying shades of gatorade like mother nature’s own tie-dye. And we find one incredible inlet sandbar to drop anchor and join the party. This is most definitely the best thing to do in Bacalar!Best Places to Eat in Bacalar - Then, the only thing that can pull me away from this perfect scene, it’s time to head back on shore, for lunch at Kai Pez in downtown Bacalar, right next to Bacalar Lagoon.Los Rapidos - Alright, there’s just one more place I want to show you for the day, if you promise to be cool about it. A turquoise-colored natural lazy river in the middle of nowhere! Now, If you come here based on this video, please make me proud and don’t touch the side walls of this river. This is a very sensitive habitat, made beautiful by one lagoon runoff and those same estromatolitos (Stromatolite) we spoke about early. All of the white exterior are living microorganisms that will die if disrupted, just like coral. The trick is, get in and out and designated locations and just let yourself float down stream. It’s amazing.We stayed at the beautiful Mia Bacalar, right on Bacalar Lagoon. We actually skip Tulum all together on this Riviera May trip, because truthfully, it gets enough attention… I know, that’s crazy for me to say as a quote-un-quote “Influencer.”Instead, today we leave Cancun behind, driving south, for a location that I think is even better than the hyped up hot spot of Tulum.After two incredible days of searching for the best tacos in Cancun, and spending time outside the city with a traditional Mayan family, we’re ready to press on with our Riviera Maya Road Trip.Next stop: Things to do in Puerto Morelos!Right off the top, Puerto Morelos feels like you’ve teleported back to a more peaceful time, before the spring breaks and mega resorts found this incredible coastline. Puerto Morelos is an authentic fishing village with a Bohemian atmosphere, but still caters to the more curious travelers who find this place.You have all of the spa treatments, yoga studios, and open-air restaurants; including our first stop of the morning, the delicious El Nicho restaurant for a quick breakfast and then a green juice at nearby Mangata.The National Reef Park of Puerto Morelos is the second largest barrier reef in the world, and it lives only about 400 meters off shore. The coral reef and seagrass area is one of the most beautiful and best preserved in all of the Riviera Maya, so of course we had to come get a closer look.This afternoon its back into the jungle to find a new cenote. Puerto Morelos has direct access to La Ruta de los Cenotes, the main road that visitors from Cancun, Tulum, and Playa del Carmen take to experience these incredible swimming holes. Along this route there are countless options, each with their own allure, and we decide on Cenotes Kin-Ha, a site that features two very unique spots.If I haven’t mentioned this already, the trick with enjoying the beautiful cenotes in the Riviera Maya, you gotta either be the first ones here when they open, or be the last ones there in the afternoon if you want to fully appreciate these more well-known places without the crowds.Luckily, we’re the last ones here and once we get all checked in, it’s up to us just go find the right hole in the ground.I’m not gunna lie to you guys, the second cenote location was sketchy. Cenote blanca Flor or White Flower, is such an innocent name, but if you’re not careful at this spot you could get seriously injured.
