This was intended to be uploaded 3 weeks earlier, but some things came up which led me to postpone this project for way too long. Nevertheless, I apologize for the very big delay in production of the MIDI. I still hope you enjoy!

MMXXI answers some of the things MMXXX "questioned". In a sense, this is the "response". Rather than thinking that MMXXI will be a much more horrible year, I still want to keep our hopes up... even if it ends up much worse than MMXX.

I'm not really keen on making this into yet another series, since well... I made this song as a continuation of MMXX (You can even hear similar elements). Needless to say

Tau but in Scratch (with ALMOST NO Lag!) - FINALE

This is a showcase video (no lag) of the updated Scratch MIDI Player featured in the "[Black MIDI in Scratch???] All I Want for Christmas Is You - (Almost NO LAG Run)" video, which can be seen here: youtu.be/NfvQ5xUCRGY

The specific version of Aranara MIDI Player used is a modified version of Aranara MIDI Player Release 2.3.7, allowing for specific audio channel rendering and customised rendering speeds. You can find the regular/unmodified version, as well as other versions here: daniferous.github.io/aranara-midi-player-sb3

Similar to how the All I Want for Christmas Is You Scratch almost no lag video is made, I rendered the visuals at 20% speed while rendering 3 audio channels at a time. This totals 1 visual recording and 5 audio recordings. The difference between this video and the previous one is that there is now double the voice count limit and the 20% rendering speed as mentioned earlier. In addition, an audio version of the MIDI (de-blacked by me) was used for the audio. This would be deemed unnecessary as Aranara MIDI Player mutes notes under a threshold volume, but is done regardless to decrease processing time (it is also important to mention that the more notes loaded to the player, the more lag that could possibly happen.)

Once again, I used my old laptop for this one as well.

This MIDI was supposed to be uploaded on the 14th of February... but I was too busy with university so it got delayed by more than a week...

Somehow, I was able to make this MIDI in under a month, originally. The project started on 24th Jan and I was able to finish it by 18th of this month. However, the editing procedure took longer because I had other priorities to do.

I am sorry for always being late somehow, and thus could be why this video was rushed. I tried to make the audio of this MIDI sound as good as it does to my ears and the arts were due to them placed randomly as this is an art experiment.

Don't mind the randomly flickering background or any "weird" illusions in this video. This video could be considred an editing experiment and I hope you enjoy this video, and Happy Belated Valentine's / Single's Day!

Also I blame the delay on my mouse... kept on double clicking and triggering Domino crashes... smh

[Black MIDI in Scratch???] All I Want for Christmas Is You - (Almost NO LAG Run)

The title almost says it all. I once again decided to play a huge song (MIDI file) in my Scratch MIDI Player, but it seems different than the one used in the previous Scratch MIDI Player showcase, which is here:

This MIDI Player is a modified version of a new MIDI Player based on the Aranara MIDI Player, known as AMP Lite. You can access AMP Lite, as well as other versions of my new Aranara MIDI Player here:

(This specific "no lag" build is based on AMP Lite V0.3.5 Fancy, with some slight alterations to the bar color.)

To achieve almost "no lag", I had to create two variations of AMP Lite Fancy. The first renders only the visuals at 50% speed, hence this is not a legit run, while the second renders the audio BUT only 3 channels at a time. Thus, to render the visuals and the audio, I had to record both and it took more than 2 to 3 hours which included troubleshooting of the programs.

The audios are then merged, corrected, and stitched with the visuals using a video editor. This is the end result.

I could have gone for a "Legit run", but there were "significantly audible arts" which constantly brought the FPS to low values... so this is the next best thing.

Oh, and, I used my old laptop for this, so I could have gotten better quality if I used my main PC which I have no access to until 2024.

First "Audio-based" MIDI I have made since Valentine's Special...

This project started as far back as May of this year, but because of some delays due to doing something else, this project was postponed until today, wherein it becomes a special birthday celebration. I hope you enjoyed watching this!

This Impossible Piano Remix is to celebrate 400 subscribers and also a birthday, well two birthdays. Two days from the release of this video, it will be the birthday of Genshin Impact, the very game that this song is based on. Genshin Impact and the good side of its community have transformed my life as an individual and made me more open to others in real life.

This MIDI employs the new techniques used in my Valentine's Special, such as Audio mixing, CC, and other random stuff that I have thrown in here. It took me around 20~30 hours to make and tweak the MIDI and another 10~20 hours to edit this video.

Fun fact, there was a predecessor to this MIDI, and you can hear a part of it during the Intro!
This is also the third MIDI I made that has a full intro, the other two being Sweden and Crab Rave MIDIs.

Also thanks a lot for 400 subscribers! I'm unfortunately too busy to make a special MIDI for this occasion, but your support means a lot to me!

I am experimenting using Github Pages to store html-converted scratch projects. Featuring widescreen Aranara MIDI Player. It still uses the core components seen in previous Aranara MIDI Players. However, since it relies on Turbowarp to make it widescreen, I cannot upload it to scratch.

Why not raw hex MIDI data? Raw hex MIDI data would have to be converted into readable text and is larger than Aranara format files, and in Scratch, smaller files = better.

Following tricks were used:
1. Notes under a certain velocity threshold/limit are muted. Unlike the previous player, this one can even play "tiny" notes.
2. The player will skip some audio notes if there is lag.
3. Unlike the previous player, this player can only render up to 300 voices. This is to increase compatibility for Scratch site. However in the future, I might change this by making a fork of this project that is fully Scratch-compatible.

Is this better than PFA? Still not, as it functions similar to Kiva in such a way it mutes notes for performance gain. It does triumph in polyphony in the same way as the previous player did.

This new player also uses a new and more optimized converted MIDI format. Compared to the previous player, the following MIDI events are kept:
1. Note length, tick, pitch, velocity, AND channels
2. Instrument/Program Change Events (It's finally here!)
3. Track No.
4. Tempo Information

Known Issue:
This player uses a new method of calculating NPS, but it incorrectly displays NPS when the framerate gets low (lower than 20 to be exact) so the NPS may be incorrect. A fix involves storing the NPS into a list, but that would cause lag.

Following tricks were used:
1. Notes under a certain velocity threshold/limit are muted. Unlike the previous player, this one can even play "tiny" notes.
2. The player will skip some audio notes if there is lag.
3. Unlike the previous player, this player can only render up to 300 voices. This is to increase compatibility for Scratch site. However in the future, I might change this by making a fork of this project that is fully Scratch-compatible.

Is this better than PFA? Still not, as it functions similar to Kiva in such a way it mutes notes for performance gain. It does triumph in polyphony in the same way as the previous player did.

This new player also uses a new and more optimized converted MIDI format. Compared to the previous player, the following MIDI events are kept:
1. Note length, tick, pitch, velocity, AND channels
2. Instrument/Program Change Events (It's finally here!)
3. Track No.
4. Tempo Information

Known Issue:
This player uses a new method of calculating NPS, but it incorrectly displays NPS when the framerate gets low (lower than 20 to be exact) so the NPS may be incorrect. A fix involves storing the NPS into a list, but that would cause lag.

Note: You still need a lot of RAM to run Tau in Scratch. You need at least 32GB to get it to reliably run without the infamous "Out of Memory" warning.

Anyways, allow myself to talk about the fundamentals on why I made a new Scratch MIDI Player in Scratch from Scratch. It all started one morning when I realized that there were signs pointing me to why I made the project.

Following tricks were used:
1. I made the audio not render on very small note lengths or low velocities (so it's somewhat using velocity threshold)
2. I have an automatic synchronizer: If the audio is running behind the visual thread, I skip some audio notes
3. There is around 384~512 voices only present. (Audio voice limits are a thing in actual legit run videos of Black MIDIs)
Otherwise, if the data shows that there is 10000 notes being rendered, then there are truly 10000 notes being rendered.

Would I consider this better than PFA? Well, nope. This is because this program can choose to mute some notes which doesn't make it a fair competition. But hey, it can deal with polyphony better than PFA, which is a win I guess?

To reduce MIDI file size, the following events are only kept:
1. Note length, tick, pitch, and velocity
2. Track No.
3. Channel No. (for Drums)
Not going to add instruments if it means adding Program Change 0 on all tracks which can inflate the size. This project focuses on optimizations, after all.

Note: You may need a strong CPU and large RAM to load larger MIDIs. Even with 32 GB RAM, it took a lot of tries to get Tau loaded as Scratch Engine refused to load Tau...

Note: The original MIDI pitch is 2 semitones higher than the task song in order for the funnel sounds to align with the MIDI. So, I split the MIDI in half and transposed down by 2 semitones whilst the other half containing the funnels was untouched and its pitch was edited using audacity. I hope this doesn't ruin the experience!

2nd MBMS International Blacking Technique Competition. I honestly thought of skipping this challenge until literally the last moments of June when I finally had free time. I was able to complete this MIDI just in time the entries closed. I enjoyed participating in the competition and looking forward to more!

However due to my busy schedule, I probably won't be able to make anything until June, and not to mention some secret projects I'm in ;) That's also the reason why I couldn't finish blacking the entire song since I didn't have enough free time.

Pardon my old Geometry Dash Account I made back in 2015 if I remember correctly? I don't really play as much as I used to since finals are coming closer than ever, haha! That being said, the gameplay footage is all done by me. I used Auto because I don't know how to beat the actual level without spending an additional year just for background footage lol

Anyways, Surface MIDI was a bust, so I'm back with a sequel to Sonic Blaster. I learned a lot from blackers who are more versed in making these kinds of MIDIs. Special thanks to @29FroilanJR and @TrinaLydia for helping me out!

Lost - Short Black MIDI (Holloween Special) [Download in server]

I'm still alive guys! Sorry for my prolonged inactivity... School is getting in the way and it is much more difficult to allocate time for making black MIDIs. Needless to say, I am uncertain if I'll be able to make a black MIDI before 2021, but still, I hope you enjoy it!

This is also my first time using only Shotcut for editing videos natively. As such, I had a bit of difficulty editing since I usually use Adobe Premiere Pro. Apologies for the video glitches in the video... I have no idea why the piano roll shrinks/grows beyond its keyframe... Anyways, I hope you enjoy Lost, my short black MIDI.

Lost - Story

A person wanders into a forest and went too deep, and discovered that they became lost.
They tried to find ways to retrace their steps and attempted to find their way back... ...but, alas... they couldn't find their way... they began to be sorrowed with the idea that they'll never return and become lost in the deep, dark, forest.
They try, once again, to leave the deep and dark forest, but alas their efforts were futile.
They gave up trying to leave, they made their mistake, and they will have to pay the price.
Seconds turned into hours and hours turned into days... with little hope of redemption, the person thinks there is only one way to escape...

This MIDI was initially named Broken, but it didn't really fit well with the composition, as it denotes attempting to run away from a situation or attempting to escape, so I decided to choose Lost, since it's a more fitting name, and the end composition denotes the feeling of being lost with no hope of return.

Fun fact: This MIDI only has 8 tracks, with 2 unused tracks. This brings a total to 10 tracks. This is the "lightest" MIDI I've made in terms of track count.

Thanks for 100 subscribers! I never knew I'd gone this far in the beginning. I started out blacking with no skills at all, not even the basics of music theory (even until now). And thanks to you, I'm now where I am right now, and I hope to continue to make quality MIDIs in the future.

Ascended Series Ep. 3
Chained , Sequel to Fallen.
Trapped down under a predicament, a hero who has fallen is now trapped with little hope of freedom. While the hero is trapped, they think of the moments they had before they had fallen down. But alas, they are chained. Until when will the hero be free?

This is also the second MIDI I made in FL Studio, I'm not as proficient in blacking compared to what I do in Domino, needless to say, however, this project went smoothly.

This MIDI was inspired once again by current events, my previous works, and contains references to other MIDIs by epic blackers such as The Romanticist and HDSQ.

Funny though, while I was making chain art, I realized that it looked too similar, and that it was unintentional.

Sonic Blaster, the song of one of the most popular (and controversial) Geometry Dash Extreme Demon Levels: Sonic Wave by Cyclic. I enjoyed the song since 2017 so I thought I'd try to black it. I tried to mimic MusiMasta's Blacking style since he made Geometry Dash Black MIDIs before. Still, I can't resist having a MIDI with arts, so I made some arts that are not dense. These arts mimic wave trails.

Also, this is a 96 PPQ MIDI. If you guys prefer low-resolution MIDIs, let me know in the comments section below.

This is the first MIDI entirely made in FL Studio. I like to think of this as a test of me using FL Studio and the outcome was successful.

Though the quality may not be as great as the MIDIs I make with Domino, I'm still learning how to make MIDIs inside FL.

Any similarities with other content are purely coincidental. I do not intend on stealing or copying other people's content without giving credit.

Originally intended for Valentines Day 2020, progress has been delayed for about a month. I started working on this right after I finished MMXX, needless to say, I want to say thank you for your support. MMXX has now become my best creation ever, and I hope to continue doing things like these.

Fallen takes a dark turn to all the MIDIs I've made in the past. It's alternate name is Descended, so it can be considered a sequel to Ascended.

In this MIDI, I took inspiration from not only MMXX, but other great blackers especially HDSQ and his Tau. I like Tau because it shifts to different time signatures, which is highly apparent in Fallen. Also in Fallen, there's a 5/4 part. It's an experiment and I hope you enjoy it.

Another short disclaimer, Zenith Note Counter appears to show the incorrect total amount of notes at the end, (just 5 missing notes), and it's strange considering it displays 20,202,020 notes loaded at start. UMP seems to have no issues with the notecount. Unfortunately, it was far too late for me to make adjustments, since I was running out of time (school was tomorrow). Also, there may be unseen bugs in the video that I saw post-rendering (rendering takes almost a day).

To celebrate the new year and decade, I decided to make an original composition titled "MMXX - A New Beginning". For those who do not know what MMXX means, it stands for 2020 in Roman Numerals.

So yeah, Black MIDI is dying, and I hope somehow someone out there revives it.

So, yeah. I'm very late in blacking this song, but I did it. For this MIDI, I tried to replicate the entire song sequence, which does not include the intro. This song was somewhat easy to arrange then expected, all was done by ear. So, yeah. This is my 7th Black MIDI and I hope you enjoy it! The same as my C418-Sweden Black MIDI, I used instruments, though less.

This is the first Black MIDI video where the background is the original video itself. I do not own the background video as it is owned by Noisestorm.

This is also my first Black MIDI that uses only 88 keys on the piano. I hope you enjoy this new technique. Of course, this doesn't mean that all my future MIDIs will now only use 88 piano keys, this is just for... testing purposes.

[Black MIDI] C418 - Sweden (Caution and Crisis Remix) - 15 million notes

So I made a black MIDI on one of Minecraft's iconic songs: Sweden by C418. However, there was a remixed version of the song that sounds more fitting. Still, if it wasn't for C418, then Caution and Crisis' remix would not exist, so I'd like to thank C418 for the nostalgic and chill soundtrack and Caution and Crisis for the epic remix, which the majority of this black MIDI is based on.

This time, I tried testing with different MIDI art, instead of tilesets, for this video. This doesn't mean I'm being unoriginal, it's because my last video used tilesets, so I'm doing things differently. Let me know if you prefer tilesets or random MIDI Art. I'm open to suggestions!

It is also the first time in this channel that I've ever used an intro. For me, the concept kinda sounds cringy, but I'm willing to test if it's effective. Although the intro song isn't a black MIDI, I decided to use another one of Caution and Crisis' remixes for the intro song, and it turned out better than I thought.

For the Swedish Flag, I used UMP to render it WITH Lucas9810's Synthesia Color Texture Pack. Special thanks to him for making the flag of Sweden look like the actual flag of Sweden.

Author notes: This is my first black midi. Progress started back on January but was halted. I was able to continue this project about a month ago.

So, a lot of things may seem similar. First, I'd like to thank all the Midi Blackers out there, especially Carlos SM, and many others.

This may cause ear rape. Most notes are silent
So, if you have any feedback? I'm leaving my window open for all of them.
