Fatpups Pickups Ursa Major Stratocaster Set | Scooped Midrange AlNiCo 2 Visual Guy 2022-12-04 | #johnmayer #bigdipper #stratocaster Been on a Silver Sky kick lately, and so I decided to hunt down some pickup sets that have some JM influence. This is the Ursa Major set from Fatpups. Alnico 2 magnets at 5.5k, 5.7k, and 6k respectively. Designed to be inspired by the Big Dipper set only found in select Fender CS Strats and in the JM tribute guitars. Likely what PRS went after as well to maintain his Strat tones. In this video I"m using my Dr. Z Max and LFT Lustcaster Strat with an LPD CLE-304 and Cascade for reverb. I have the O.C.E. Ive NEVER played anything like it...Mythos Pedals Hephaestus | Variable Voltage Fuzz Unit Visual Guy 2022-11-25 | This Black Friday release from Mythos is totally nuts. It has low and high octave mixed in with the fuzz sound that engages depending on how much your strings are vibrating and where the knob is set. It reacts differently to singles than humbuckers. Its like having some sort of octave fuzz envelop filter. You can hear the low octave kick in as the string vibration/output starts to fade. If you pick soft the low octave is there, if you pick hard its cool fuzz/high octave sounds. Totally F*cking insane, fun and I've never played anything like it. Thanks so much for watching! If you listening to the knob turning, it is incredibly dynamic with guitar controls and will all but disappear in the sound, giving the player total control of gain stages in just their hands. 1957 Les Paul Standard Reissue (R7) with Total Gravy Mid PAF Humbucker Visual Guy 2022-10-21 | Hit the record button on some more tones from the Total Gravy Mid PAF set, this time in my R7. Low wind, AlNiCo 4 pickups sound killer in this guitar. A lot of this playing is soft picking attack. I found that I was really enjoying listening to the notes when playing softly. Especially using the new Pliers pedal where when you pick light, it almost sounds clean. Very dynamic combination in this video.Using the drive side of the Pliers from O.C.E. The Seventy4 Deluxe is a dual channel overdrive preamp that captures the tone, dynamics and feel of early 70’s Marshall amps. The red channel is the familiar circuit of the original Seventy4 audio device. The green channel is an all new design from Lawrence that he created to compliment the original The new green channel is a cleaner and milder Marshall tone that stacks feels like your Marshall turned down to 3-4. Edge of breakup tones, mid range push that sounds big and bold, but not over the top (until you crank the gain to 8 or so). The Deluxe also has voice switches for each channel. The default voice switch setting is down, and switching it to the up position adds some low-mid range and gain. I kind of think of this as ‘jumping the channels’ on a 4-hole Marshall vs. just plugging straight into the high input. A blackguard inspired set, but with some non traditional appointments that set them apart from being just another black guard attempt. Cavalier Pickups Bengal Tiger Stratocaster Bridge Pickup Visual Guy 2022-07-27 | If you watched my previous videos on the Tiger Strat Set, this is the higher output bridge that can be paired with that set. I focused on just the bridge and position 2 for this video. This is a full rock and roll wind that has nice cleans but if you are buying an over wound Strat bridge, you likely want to flip it to position one and push an amp without the thinness. That's what the Bengal does. LPD Pedals Fifty5 Pedal Demo | Tweed in a Box! Visual Guy 2022-05-23 | The @LawrencePetross Fifty5 is finally here! LPD has finally added a new AIAB style drive to the standard line! This one has all the Tweed sounds of the mid-late 50s in one box. Between the normal three knob setup and the two toggles, there are several different amp voices that can be had. The voice knobs works in conjunction with the active tone control, allowing more or less Low mids/bass into the control. The HDRM (headroom) toggle is tied to the drive control, and introduces more or less power amp drive. Taking advantage of the four possible toggle settings can bring multiple tweed sounds to your rig. Set to low head room, less bass, and crank the volume for some awesome Champ style drive, Or add more headroom, bass and find the Tweed Bassman tone. The Fifty5 is a celebration of Fender's iconic Tweed era, and who better to do that than the AIAB GOAT. The enclosure is a 1955 Chevy Blue, matte finish with Lawrence's custom proprietary knobs. LPD Pedals Cascade Infinity Reverb Pedal Demo Visual Guy 2022-05-03 | People asked and Lawrence answered! This limited Cascade Reverb Infinity with an added soft-touch switch for momentary Infinite decay. Use it to create awesome pads to play over, ethereal sounding endings and cool ambience behind your tones. The switch essentially bypasses the decay setting and pretends it is dimed for as long as you hold it down. Once released, the speed of the decay is dependent on the knob's placement. And as you can see in the intro piece and ending, it works with the trails so that if you want the infinite decay as you turn the pedal off, you can have it. Like the Cascade, it runs at a low 100mA, soft-touch switching, decay only tone control, 50/50 max wet/dry on the level, top mounted jacks and the LPD Limited enclosure look. Humbucker Pickups Visual Guy 2022-04-27 | Instagram user @jakemguitarist turned me on to Total Gravy Guitarworks recently and what a treat to play these. The Mid P.A.F. set is Derek's (owner) take on the '58-'59 era PAF sound. They are low turn, scatter wound, and unbalanced coils with roughcast A4 magnets. You can really hear the woody flavor when the volume is rolled off to about 8 which I demonstrated in the video a lot, but at full they sound bright and clear but feel polite with low wattage amps. The Velvet Hammer is a Dumble like overdrive pedal from BMF Effects. I was pleasantly surprised on this one and how responsive it can be to the guitar's controls. The Gain is a subtle increase after 9 o'clock and the tone control is always 'just enough' regardless to whether you are rolling off or adding a little high-end. Boost section works with the drive and cascades a small amount of miss and gain into the drive section of the pedal. This is a set of Tim's Enchanters. wound to over 11k DCR! But, they use 43 awg plain enamel wire instead of a tradition PAF style 42 awg. Because of the smaller wire, more turns can be added to the bobbins, and gives a higher resistance reading, Nate, the owner, offers a traditional PAF style spec but he recommended me trying this set first because of the design intention, which were to get those cool, Jimmy Page tones when ordering 4-conductor leads and coil tapping them. Easy Fender Telecaster Upgrades that Make a REAL Difference! Visual Guy 2022-01-15 | #telecaster #upgrades #diyIf you follow my channel, I think we have established that pickups can drastically change a guitar's sound and feel. But this video is about some other things and they made such an audible difference I decided to post them.My Friend wanted me to make some improvements to his Mexican Telecaster. He said it felt like a total dud compared to his other guitars even though it played well. I took a look and he was right. It sounded like cardboard. The first thing I did was pulled the control plate off and removed the potentiometers and cap. The stock volume pot was only 176k. The ideal pot is around 250k. That's a tone of High-end content being lost. So I replaced those with 250 CTS pots and a PIO cap from Mojotone.com. The difference was pretty drastic. But I figured why not change the bridge/saddles to something that was machined for actual tone and not just to build thousands of guitars a month. I swapped the bridge plate for a bridge plate from Advanced Music Products, and then installed some Callaham compensated steel saddles. FWIW, you don't have to use these high-end of parts. The normal Fender steel bridge plate is $10 on amazon, and you can get some good steel saddles like Gotoh, Wilkinson or the Advanced Music Products from Philadelphia Luthier. If you know how to solder, you can do these upgrades for less than $100 with shipping included. Probably WAY less depending on the parts you choose. Changing pickups is great, but you are still limiting them to what other components are on the guitar. Everything matters!In this video I'm using my Vintage Sound 22SC and a LPD Pedals Cascade Reverb for all the clips. The setting on the amp and mic placement didn't change between filming and I re-used the same strings for every upgrade. Thanks for watching!

Muleskinner Amps Fuzz | Boutique Handwired Fuzz Pedal Visual Guy 2022-01-03 | The Muleskinner Amps Fuzz is a completely handwired Ge/Si Fuzz Face design. The choice of Germanium transistor varies the tone just like with a Sun Face. The Silicon is always the same transitory and also keeps the pedal more temperature stable. There is a bias potentiometer inside for those who really like to tweak, but they come set to the suggested bias. The controls are Volume, Dirt, Hi-Cut and Thin-Thick. The Thin-Thick controls how much low end goes through the circuit and the Hi-Cut gives the option to cut high end out the output if needed, which is very useful because the dirt knob isn’t wired the same as a traditional Fuzz Face and retains lots of high-end as you roll it back. All of this is to say that this pedal can be really useable with lots of different guitars and amps. It will do the FF thing, but a lot more. Zhangbucker Pure Handwound Pickups with 1957 Les Paul Standard Custom Shop Reissue (R7) Gold Top Visual Guy 2021-10-10 | After so many comments of folks asking about Zhangbuckers, they have finally arrived. This is a Pure Handwound set from David Plummer, creator of Zhangbucker. Pure Handwound meaning there is no machine involved at all, which makes his offerings very unique in a market full of talented winders. David uses a clamp to hold the bobbin, and he adds the turn by hand. This video includes his T-bucker neck pickup with an AlNiCo 3 and an Original Slugbucker bridge with AlNiCo 2. In the room I'm hearing just as David mentions on his site. This set seems to find the balance of the "muddy neck and shrill bridge" we all run into when trying to find the perfect set of PAF/Humbucker sounds. I barely had to adjust them past my normal starting points for height. LPD Pedals Cascade Reverb Demo | Plate Reverbs, Infinite Decay, Tails, and More! Visual Guy 2021-09-10 | The LPD Cascade Reverb is a simple 4 knob reverb pedal that can be subtle or infinite. This is a plate-like sounding reverb that can be expanded into a faux reverse, hall, cathedral etc. The design is extremely user-friendly and well thought out. Level at max is 50/50 wet-dry. So you can never accidentally remove your dry signal when playing lives. Its buffered bypass, which means you have tails on no matter what for those cool solo endings. A pre-delay that is just enough to keep the reverbs out of the way of the dry notes without having to worry about too much or too little. It runs on 150ma, top jacks, soft switching, and a fantastic matte blue finish. Sheptone Pickups Blue Sky Humbuckers with 1957 Les Paul Standard Reissue (R7) Gold Top Visual Guy 2021-08-28 | These are the Sheptone Blue Sky Pickups in my R7. Alnico 4, PAF style coils inspired by Dickie Betts Gold Top. These are a very nice, bright and clear Alnico 4 set with that airy/woody tone that doesn't come off as "too" dry. Just lovely. Keep in mind, I'm playing these through a 17 watt tweed deluxe from Muleskinner Amps with an Eminence GA-SC59 AlNiCo speake. So it won't be a spot on Dickie sound in this video per say, but hopefully the character comes across.Using the LPD Pedals Cascade for Reverb and the Embers for a K style push in to the tweed.
