American Coaster EnthusiastsOne of the most fortunate interview subjects we had for the documentary was certainly Dana Morgan: son of Arrow co-founder Ed Morgan and, later, the founder of Morgan Manufacturing, which has since been absorbed by Chance Rides Inc. Dana grew up in and around the Arrow plants in Mountain View, even being a test-dummy on the Matterhorn test track at Arrow and the first kid to ride the actual Matterhorn at Disneyland during initial tests.
You'll get the chance to hear about these stories and a WHOLE lot more in our longest interview yet - and we promise you'll want to listen to it all, too!

The designation was presented during the 2024 ACE Preservation Conference, coinciding with the park’s 50th anniversary.
The Tornado, which opened on July 4, 1978, was designed by William J. Cobb and stands 93 feet tall. The wooden roller coaster features eight airtime-inducing drops along its 2,640-foot track. It remains a signature attraction at the park in Altoona, Iowa.
Named after a tornado that struck Adventureland before its 1974 opening, the ride symbolizes the park’s resilience. Tornado was the first wooden roller coaster built in three years and helped revive the popularity of traditional wooden coasters in the United States.
Adventureland has maintained the ride in prime condition for decades, ensuring it remains a beloved experience for generations of thrill seekers. The landmark designation recognizes the park’s commitment to preserving the classic wooden coaster tradition.

SANDUSKY, Ohio (Sept. 19, 2024) – Cedar Point, The Roller Coaster Capital of the World®, will add fathoms of thrills to its world-renowned and record-breaking collection of scream machines with the 2025 debut of Siren’s Curse – the tallest, fastest and longest “tilt” roller coaster in North America.
Siren’s Curse hearkens to the legend and lore of mysterious creatures living beneath the surface of Lake Erie; often spoken of – but never spotted. The sirens of the lake who lured sailors to their underwater demise with their sweet, seductive songs will finally rise to land and attempt to entrap guests in a sinister two-minute fate of non-stop roller coaster innovation.
Riders will hear the echo of the siren’s chilling melodies as they ascend an old 160-foot-tall Lake Erie shipping crane tower, the sounds growing more sinister as riders reach the top. Their fate will hang in the balance as they encounter the roller coaster’s signature moment: a dead stop on a “broken off” section of track. The creaking platform holding the train of riders will slowly tilt the entire train into a 90-degree vertical position, forcing riders to peer straight down with the hope their train will connect to the twisted track below.
As the track locks into place, riders will flee from the beckoning call of the siren and plunge into the abyss, speeding through 2,966 feet of track at a top speed of 58 mph. The ride will feature 13 weightless airtime moments, two 360-degree, zero-gravity barrel rolls and a high-speed “triple-down” element with twisted and overbanked track.
Adding to the immersive experience, the two, 24-passenger trains on Siren’s Curse will feature integrated audio and signature LED lighting on each car.
Located across from the Iron Dragon suspended coaster and near the Cedar Point Marina, the ride’s tangled and compact layout will provide the high-thrill experience Cedar Point guests have come to know from America’s Roller Coast®. Guests must be 48” tall to ride Siren’s Curse.
“Record-breaking thrills have always been at the heart of Cedar Point’s roller coaster lineup, and Siren’s Curse lives up to that standard,” said Carrie Boldman, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “The entire ride is an experience filled with non-stop action, but that first precarious tilted position where you’re hanging on – looking straight down – and waiting for the track to connect will be a signature moment our fans will love. It’s a first-of-its kind for Cedar Point and we’re thrilled to bring it to our guests.” With the addition of Siren’s Curse, Cedar Point will be home to an impressive lineup of 19 roller coasters, including fan favorites like Millennium Force®, Steel Vengeance®, Maverick® and more. As previously announced, the record-breaking triple-launch strata coaster Top Thrill 2® is scheduled to reopen in 2025.
Guests can dive into season-long access to Siren’s Curse and the park’s 67 additional attractions with a 2025 Gold Pass. It includes Cedar Point and HalloWeekends® admission in 2024 and all of 2025, free parking, Cedar Point Shores® Waterpark admission, in-park discounts, bring-a-friend tickets and more. Right now, the 2025 Gold Pass is on sale for $125 or 10 payments of $10 after initial payment of $25. Guests can purchase online now at cedarpoint.com.
Siren’s Curse is scheduled to open in early summer of 2025. For more information on Siren’s Curse, construction updates and more, follow Cedar Point on Facebook, Instagram, X and YouTube or visit cedarpoint.com.

The World’s Tallest and Longest Launched Wing Coaster to Open in 2025 as part of 50th Anniversary Season
DOSWELL, VA – Kings Dominion, central Virginia’s beloved amusement park, is thrilled to announce the arrival of Rapterra as part of the park’s 50th anniversary season in 2025. Standing at 145 feet tall and stretching 3,086 ft long, this incredible new attraction is the world's tallest and longest launched wing coaster, and promises an unforgettable experience filled with heights, speed and exhilarating maneuvers for all park-goers.
Rapterra, inspired by the powerful Jungle Hawk, offers riders the sensation of flight. The adventure begins with a powerful launch, accelerating passengers to 65 miles per hour in just four seconds before ascending to its zenith over the Jungle X-Pedition midway. The ride then plummets into a dive loop, and navigates a series of thrilling aerial maneuvers, including an S-turn, a wing slide, a flat spin, an airtime hill, and a 360-degree raptor roll. The 89-second ride totals three inversions before a smooth return to the station.
“We are excited to unveil Rapterra, the must-do ride of 2025, at Kings Dominion,” said Bridgette Bywater, vice president and general manager of Kings Dominion. “This extraordinary addition promises new thrills for our guests, making it the perfect centerpiece for our 50th anniversary celebration and reaffirming why Kings Dominion is the ultimate destination for unforgettable memories and exhilarating excitement.”

The basalt grey support columns and patina green track create loops, twists and rolls, ensuring a thrilling adventure from start to finish.
Construction of Rapterra is already in progress, with completion expected this fall. The coaster will officially open in 2025, coinciding with Kings Dominion's milestone 50th anniversary celebration. The Bobcat, crafted by the Gravity Group, is North America's sole new wooden coaster.
Korey Kiepert, a seasoned engineer with The Gravity Group, reflected on the project. "Every project is a different process and a little bit unique," he said. The journey to complete the Bobcat was long and demanding. "I worked over Christmas, New Year's, nonstop on this," Kiepert shared.
The Bobcat is the first ride with a 100% prefabricated track. "It's like an erector set or Lego set," Kiepert explained, adding that it delivers a perfect wooden track system. "We really wanted to do something that stayed tried and true to the wooden coaster. Wooden roller coasters out of wood, but just make them better. It's our smoothest roller coaster."
Kiepert hopes the Bobcat's success will inspire other parks. "I think it's a testament to what you can do with wood," he said, emphasizing the safety and efficiency of the prefabricated system. "It's a safer system as well."
The Bobcat promises a load of fun for riders. "It's just overflowing with fun," Kiepert said. He highlighted that the coaster is family-friendly. "I'm six foot six and can sit in this train with young kids. It's fun for everyone." Kiepert reminisced about his college days when he enjoyed various coasters, which shaped his passion. "Most people at our company work there because they love rides, especially wooden roller coasters."
The Bobcat's innovative design and dedication to tradition mark a significant milestone for wooden roller coasters. "We think the future of wooden roller coasters is actually wood," Kiepert concluded.

Escape the site, conquer your fears, and brace yourself for an unforgettable ride, full of sensations you won’t want to miss!
MAXIMIZE THRILLS IN A COMPACT SPACE Intamin’s Hot Racer is an innovative single–rail roller coaster model designed to maximize thrills in a compact space. With its slender trains and track design, the Hot Racer offers unparalleled flexibility for layout creativity, allowing for the incorporation of thrilling elements within a limited footprint.
Prepare for an adrenaline-pumping ride as Mahuka boasts two launches and seatings positioned close to the track, delivering an immersive high-speed experience with thrilling elements throughout the layout. The “backboned” track design reduces the number of columns needed in comparison to other track designs, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the ride with the already iconic double top-hat.
CUSTOM-THEMED AND COMFORTABLE TRAINS Featuring stunningly custom-themed trains, Mahuka allows riders to experience high comfort and freedom using Intamin’s highly successful LSM seat design, widely considered one of the most comfortable coaster seats on the market. Additionally, the seats were enhanced with new padding to accommodate riders as small as 120 cm (4 ft).
The in-line seating configuration, coupled with the absence of over-the-shoulder restraints, ensures quick boarding and disembarking, while providing guests with a liberating sense of openness and maximum comfort.
ENHANCING THE EXPERIENCE Building upon its predecessor at Luna Park in Australia, the new Hot Racer has undergone significant enhancements. The chassis was significantly refined to enhance ride comfort and ensure an even better fit to the track. Additionally, the brand-new carbon fiber lap bars contribute to a lighter train and lower center of gravity, enhancing the experience with an even smoother ride.
Embark the adventure with Mahuka at Walibi Rhône-Alpes. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or a casual visitor, Mahuka promises an experience that will leave you breathless and craving more. Visit Walibi Rhone-Alpes and see why Mahuka is the the next step in single-rail roller coaster design!

To participate, students in grades 5 - 12 build coasters designed for a steel ball or marble to travel through the entire ride. A lift hill is not required, as contestants raise the ball by hand from the loading platform. This video is for the May 10th event.
All models, including theming and decoration, must be built to fit within specified dimensions; otherwise, they will be disqualified. The ball must always remain in contact with the track; it may not jump or free-fall. Gravity is the only driving force; magnets, springs, and other forms of energy may not be used to propel and/or launch the ball forward. These different energy sources can be used for esthetics; however, no electricity is provided in the contest area.
Teams will be asked to clearly indicate the start and end points of the coaster. If the team has problems with the coaster completing the circuit, it is too late to postpone judging. They will get three chances (or up to five chances, depending on track design). Adjustments to the track between runs may be made at the judges’ discretion. Judges will move on to the next coaster at the end of the time slot to remain on schedule.
