How different do a Tama Superstar factory head made by Remo, a Remo Powerstroke 4, an Aquarian Superkick II and an Evans EMAD2 bass drum head sound? A video with sound recordings of these 4 heads (non-coated versions), recorded with an AKG D-112 and Shure overhead and tom mics (PG81 and PG56). Be sure to switch to HD mode for best sound quality.
The heads were tuned so the fundamental pitch of the bass drum was about equal (40 Hz, checked with a tune-bot) while the resonant heads remained the same. The heads were recorded with the same mic setup, same level settings and no eq, compression or other effects applied. And played by the same (crappy) drummer ;-).
A while ago I tried about 8 different 12" tom heads. I can do another video comparing them, just hit the like button for this video.
