The deletion of the song meant that Idina Menzel, most famous for her work on Broadway and later as Elsa in the Frozen series, no longer had any singing moments in the film. In a promotional interview, Idina explained, "Nancy wasn't written with any songs, honestly. Patrick's character and my character are the New York people, and we don't sing. It was never written that way, and I actually was really flattered to be hired as an actress."

Alan further explained, "Stephen was really pushing for concluding the film with a song sequence and something new, not just a little reprise moment. And we wrote a title song called 'Enchanted,' where Edward and Nancy first connect, and then it opens up into a montage. Here is the extended version of "Reflection" from Disney Animation's 1998 feature Mulan. With music by Matthew Wilder and lyrics by David Zippel, it is sung by Lea Salonga as the singing voice of Fa Mulan.

Footage from the final film and the storyboards to the deleted section of the song (youtu.be/bgIyAyZJnNs) have been synced to the recording.

Recorded by Salonga multiple times for the film, the final edit features a truncated version which deletes a verse and a chorus, and also features alternate lyrics, Salonga has performed the extended version live in concert on a number of occasions.

Based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, the film was directed by Barry Cook and Tony Bancroft and produced by Pam Coats, from a screenplay by Rita Hsiao, Chris Sanders, Philip LaZebnik, and the writing team of Raymond Singer and Eugenia Bostwick-Singer, and a story by Robert D. Pomp and Circumstance (Original Concept) | Deleted Scene | Fantasia 2000

Disney Ashman Demos: An Unofficial Disney Archive 2024-11-29 | Here is a storyboard reel for Pomp and Circumstance by Edward Elgar for Fantasia 2000. From an early, work-in-progress workprint of the film, dated November 11, 1992, the project is referred to as both Fantasia II (slated before the film) and Fantasia Continued (as a title card at the end). Some editing has been done to adjust video's color and contrast.

Presented here in its original concept, it shows a selection of Disney Princesses (Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, and Snow White) and their heroes/princes in a wedding procession carrying their "future children" (delivered by storks), with Donald Duck serving as the bearer of the children's crowns and Goofy serving as conductor. Conceived by Disney CEO Michael Eisner, who was inspired to include the piece after attending a graduation and believing its familiarity would be appropriate for the project, the concept was not well received by studio staff. Eventually, Eisner agreed to drop the concept but not the piece, and after numerous other ideas were scrapped, Francis Glebas presented the film's final concept: Noah's Duck, which shows Donald Duck serving as the assistant of Noah from the Book of Genesis, tasked with rounding up the animals for the prophet's ark.

Though conceived in 1984, it wasn't until a successful re-release of Fantasia in 1990 that the project began in earnest, being greenlit by Michael Eisner in 1991. In November 1992 (around the time of this workprint), producer Roy E. Disney, sequence director Hendel Butoy, and Disney Feature Animation president Thomas Schumacher met with the (now disgraced) Metropolitan Opera conductor James Levine and his manager Peter Gelb in Vienna to discuss the project and review the story reels created for it. Levine took an immediate interest in the project (especially in the reel created for Pines of Rome) and would go on to serve as the music's conductor for most of the film's segments, conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Here is Raúl Esparza's demo to "Patience," a song written for (but cut from) A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, with music by Steven Lutvak and lyrics by Lutvak and Robert L. Freedman, and based on the 1907 novel "Israel Rank: The Autobiography of a Criminal" by Roy Horniman.

This demo was likely recorded around the time of a 2004 workshop of the musical early in its development -- featuring Esparza, Rebecca Luker, Nancy Anderson, and Sean Allan Krill -- when the musical was still titled "Kind Hearts and Coronets" and using the 1949 film of the same name as its source material. After problems arose with the film's copyright owners and rights were rescinded, all elements in the story and characters created for the film were changed or removed (including the suffragette of the D'Ascoyne family, Lady Agatha) and the musical was retitled "The Truth About Monty," premiering under it's final title "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder." (In 2010, Canal+ Image UK Ltd, the film's copyright owner, did levy a lawsuit against Lutvak and Freedman over the work. The case would be dismissed on March 29, 2011 by Judge Richard J. Holwell, who found the elements shared between the two were not original to the film and were not protectable.)

Provided by an anonymous source, only a select number of these scenes were included on the film's DVD release. Also featured is a portion of the cut title song (with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz), and a number of musical cues from unrelated films used as temp music.

The image has been cropped to remove unused negative space and upscaled to 480p.

Disney Ashman Demos: An Unofficial Disney Archive 2017-08-20 | Here is Jerry Lewis' 1953 recording of "Never Smile at a Crocodile." Conducted by Dave Cavanaugh, the song was recorded for Capitol Records.

With music by Frank Churchill and lyrics by Jack Lawrence, Churchill composed the music in 1939 when Peter Pan was in early development. Due to production delays, caused partly by financial problems at the studio and the studio's involvement with war efforts during World War II, production wouldn't begin in earnest until 1949. This would be Churchill's only contribution ro the score, having committed suicide on May 14, 1942.

Though Lawrence's lyrics were cut from the film, Churchill's music would be used as a leitmotif whenever the crocodile appears. The song was recorded by Stuart Foster and Judy Valentine on a RCA LP of the film's songs.

Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah - James Baskett - Song of the South

Disney Ashman Demos: An Unofficial Disney Archive 2016-04-21 | Here is the original soundtrack recording of "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" from arguably Disney's most infamous film, Song of the South, as performed by James Baskett. The recording has been synced to footage from a Technicolor print of the film. Music is by Allie Wrubel, while lyrics are by Ray Gilbert.

Despite efforts made by Disney to make the film as racially sensitive as possible, controversy has surrounded the film since it's release. As such, the film has never been released in full in a home video format domestically. International releases also ceased in the late 1990s.

Despite these misgivings, the film received various Academy Award nominations, winning Best Song for "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah", and Baskett was given an honorary Oscar for his portrayal of Uncle Remus, the first black male actor to be given the statue.

Belle - Work-In-Progress Cut - Beauty and the Beast

Presented on September 29, 1991 at the New York Film Festival, the Work-in-Progress cut of Beauty and the Beast consisted of roughly 70% of finished animation, with the remaining 30% presented with storyboards and pencil tests. (Parts of the first half of the film were retroactively replaced with earlier versions, since the majority had been finished.)

Though the unedited Work-in-Progress version of the movie was included on the Blu-Ray disc in it's 2010 release, it's included only in a picture-in-picture presentation with the finished film, with a full, restored version present ion the included DVD.

This HD version is a recreation of the scene as it appears on the 1995 LaserDisc release of the Work-In-Progress cut, combining unfinished animation from said release with the finial animation from the 2010 Blu-Ray.

Arabian Nights - Origianl Soundtrack Release - Aladdin

In July 1993, after complaints and protests by the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, Tim Rice rewrote the line and it was dubbed as "Where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense / It's barbaric, but hey, it's home". (I've been unable to figure out if Bruce Adler, the original singer, recorded the revised lyrics.) On the very first home video release, and on every release to this day, the revised version is the version used. Released on October 31, 1992, the original pressings of the soundtrack contained the original recording, before being replaced by the revised recording.

"In our original conception, this song set up the entire world and mythology of the merpeople. Howard played the grizzled, old captain and the slightly world-weary Grimsby. I played the naive and overly-enthusiastic Prince Eric. Typecasting.

Our demos generally functioned as blueprints for the final production. This demo is actually an exception in that it changed in form and substance."

This was recorded by an audience member on September 16, 2003 during a preview performance. Accompanying the audio is pictures from the production, pictures from the rehearsal process, and a few stand-alone photos of Kerry Butler and Hunter Foster (a few including his sister Sutton).

(NOTE: The picture from 06:14 through 07:47 is from the Broadway tryout in Florida, featuring Lee Wilkof, the original Seymour, as Mushnik. The opportunity to include a picture of the original Seymours shaking hands was too much to pass up.)
