Big thanks to developer DJ EAR for pointing out that the previous v3 demo had a leftover debugging feature. Turns out the first level’s boss would go down in one hit! That’s now been removed in this updated demo, and I’m diving back in today to give this awesome upcoming game the proper showcase it deserves.
Still got a long way to go for me to play this game well but that first boss fight? Absolutely epic!
Go check it out for yourself!!!

There are a few rough edges (especially with the boss in the first level — I really tried not to destroy it too early…), but overall, it plays and feels a lot like Einhänder on Playstation (sadly Square Enix's only shmup?) The weapon-stealing mechanic is a standout feature, and the variety of weapons gives you real freedom in how you approach each challenge. The soundtrack is also rock solid and really elevates the whole experience.
The story is classic shmup fare: you pilot the CRISIS UEF MK.I, Earth’s most advanced strike fighter, and blast your way through enemy-occupied zones on a mission to retrieve or destroy stolen military intel.
If you're into retro-inspired shooters, this one is definitely worth keeping an eye on. I can’t wait to see how it evolves heading into early access on Steam!

Even at this early stage, the game feels impressively polished. It’s immediately playable, offering a solid selection of vehicles and tracks to dive into. I’m already having a blast with it, and I can’t wait to see how the final product shapes up!

In this video, I go through the opening of the demo, take on some early enemies, the first boss, and get a feel for the controls and flow. It’s stylish, fast-paced, and full of detail — definitely one to keep an eye on if you're into retro-inspired games that still feel fresh.

🗓️ Updated Release Date:
Earthion is now set to launch on July 31, 2025—but only on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.
🕹️ The Mega Drive version has sadly been delayed to 2026.
Only 6 weeks left until release! While it's a bit disappointing that we won’t get to play it on the Mega Drive right away, it makes total sense—cartridge games need to be flawless at launch, with no patches or updates possible.
💬 Let me know what you think of the new footage and whether you'll be picking up Earthion on modern consoles or waiting for the retro drop!

In 1993, Konami delivered what many consider the finest Batman game of the 16-bit era for the Super Nintendo. Based on Tim Burton's classic film, Batman Returns became an iconic title that left a lasting impression on a generation of gamers.
A dedicated team of enthusiasts is working to port Batman Returns from the SNES to the Mega Drive, bringing this magical experience to SEGA's finest console.
Here's a playthrough of the first demo, along with a side-by-side comparison of this new Sega Mega Drive/Genesis port versus the original SNES version of the game.

Yuzo Koshiro has shared some new footage of Earthion and this time we get to see Stage 1 being played in its entirety!!! Unfortunately, it sounds like the game will be slightly delayed and won't see the light of day until 2025. Koshiro also announced today that the game will be playable at the upcoming Retro Game Summit at the Ota Ward Industrial Plaza PiO on November 30th.

Another week, another awesome Megadrive/Geneis port demo! Monster Bath Games (https://x.com/realMonsterBath) released a few days ago the first demo of their fan-made port of Namco’s Splatterhouse for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and it's absolutely amazing.
This demo includes the first two levels of the original arcade game, recreated for our favourite SEGA 16-bit console. It’s currently playable on the BlastEm emulator as well as on actual Sega Genesis/Mega Drive hardware using an Everdrive or compatible devices.
The port was optimized for 60Hz NTSC systems, so PAL consoles may experience some issues with timing and screen sizing.
The demo is available for free on itch.io: monsterbathchris.itch.io/mega-splatterhouse-demo
Footage was captured using a Japanese Megadrive through a Framemeister.

This week we're taking a look at another remake/new take of/on a classic game on PC, this time, Asura The Striker. This demo came out a while ago but I missed it at the time. Overall, it's a pretty astonishing game, everything on screen move really fast, the graphics are super colorful and it handles very well and close to the source material. If like me you're a fan of Space Harrier, it's well worth a try and I look forward to playing the full release. Enjoy!

Unfortunately, when the Satellaview service shut down in 2000, some of these new F-Zero tracks were lost.
However, the F-Zero community didn’t give up. After six years of effort and offering a $5,000 bounty for the lost data, the F-Zero hacking community created BS F-Zero Deluxe. A dedicated fan uploaded a playthrough of BS F-Zero Grand Prix 2 to YouTube in 2018: youtube.com/watch?v=Z0-Iu-p52ek&t=0s
Armed with a repertoire of intricate techniques, the project programmer, Guy Perfect, meticulously recreated these tracks within the existing F-Zero framework. The entire process, along with fascinating insights into the Satellaview system, is meticulously documented in this article: pressthebuttons.com/2024/02/lost-satellaview-f-zero-tracks-return.html
This hack seamlessly integrates all ten of the new BS-X tracks into the retail F-Zero cartridge data, resulting in the ultimate Super NES F-Zero experience. The Deluxe content includes new tracks split over two cups, four additional cars, and a mode where you race against a course ghost.

The visual aesthetics of this game bear a striking resemblance to Monster World III during its action scenes. However, the absence of music or sound effects in the accompanying video prompts the desire to integrate a fitting soundtrack. It's worth noting that the prototype showcased is notably neat and displays a certain level of functionality. Interestingly, the game appears to make no utilization or acknowledgment of the capabilities of the MegaCD hardware, functioning as a straightforward Megadrive ROM.

The game follows the adventures of Claris and Elliot as they navigate dreamy environments adorned with festive touches, from snow-covered pine trees to glowing ornaments. The iconic jester-like character, Nights, is also dressed in a charming Santa outfit, spreading joy and mischief in equal measure. The attention to detail in the Christmas-themed makeover is truly enchanting, capturing the essence of the holiday season.
One of the highlights of "Christmas Nights into Dreams" is its time-limited nature, mirroring the fleeting nature of the holiday season itself. The game's special events and decorations change dynamically based on the in-game calendar, adding an extra layer of excitement as players discover new surprises each day.
The delightful holiday soundtrack, featuring classic tunes with a festive twist, enhances the overall joyous atmosphere of the game. From the cheerful jingles to the soothing melodies, the music complements the winter wonderland visuals, creating a perfect harmony of sights and sounds.
In conclusion, "Christmas Nights into Dreams" is a heartwarming and charming addition to the Sega Saturn library. It successfully infuses the holiday spirit into the already captivating world of "Nights into Dreams," making it a delightful experience for both fans of the original game and those seeking a festive gaming adventure. So, gather around the virtual fireplace, grab a cup of hot cocoa, and let the magic of "Christmas Nights into Dreams" brighten your holiday gaming sessions.

In essence, the game unfolds as a compilation of videos showcasing marine life woven into a narrative centered around Poseidon. Amidst these pre-rendered visuals, the game introduces intermittent shooting sequences that, albeit a tad delayed, prove to be worth the anticipation.
In alignment with the characteristic limitations of Playdia games during its time, "Aqua Adventure: Blue Lilty" might not offer extensive entertainment value. Nevertheless, its runtime of approximately 30 minutes manages to captivate, and the final boss encounter provides a commendable level of challenge.
So, in all its submerged splendor, I present to you the essence of "Aqua Adventure: Blue Lilty." Take the plunge and enjoy this unique gaming experience!

In Final Fight 2, players find themselves embarking on a globe-trotting mission to rescue the sister of one of the main characters from the clutches of a new, international gang. While the gameplay remains true to its side-scrolling beat 'em up roots, it introduces new characters to the roster, giving players the option to choose from four heroes, each with their own set of unique abilities and fighting styles.
The game retains the high-quality visual presentation of its predecessor, featuring detailed character sprites and diverse backgrounds that showcase a variety of global settings. The Super Famicom's hardware capabilities are used effectively to deliver an engaging and visually appealing gaming experience.
One significant improvement in Final Fight 2 is the reintroduction of a two-player co-op mode, enhancing the social aspect of the game. Team up with a friend to tackle the challenges together, making it an even more enjoyable and interactive experience.
The music and sound design continue to impress, with a memorable soundtrack that complements the action and adds depth to the gameplay.
Final Fight 2 offers a satisfying and action-packed gaming experience, building on the strengths of the original while introducing new elements to keep players engaged. If you're a fan of classic beat 'em up titles and cooperative gaming, Final Fight 2 for the Super Famicom is a fantastic choice that will let you relive the glory days of arcade-style brawling with friends.

In Final Fight, players are tasked with cleaning up the dangerous streets of Metro City, which have been overrun by a notorious gang. As one of the three playable characters - Cody, Guy, or Haggar - you must battle your way through hordes of thugs, punks, and formidable bosses to rescue the city's mayor's daughter, Jessica. Each character has their own unique fighting abilities and special moves, adding depth and replayability to the game.
The game's graphics, while slightly scaled down from the arcade version due to hardware limitations, still impress with detailed character sprites and colorful, urban backgrounds. The Super Famicom's capabilities are utilized well to deliver an engaging visual experience.
One notable difference in the Super Famicom version compared to the arcade release is the absence of the two-player co-op mode, as Final Fight Super Famicom focuses on a single-player experience. Despite this, the game's solid gameplay and balanced difficulty ensure an enjoyable solo adventure.
Final Fight's soundtrack is another standout feature, with catchy tunes that enhance the atmosphere and adrenaline of the game. The music, combined with the satisfying combat mechanics, makes for a highly immersive gaming experience.
With its straightforward gameplay, memorable characters, and intense action, Final Fight on the Super Famicom is a must-play for fans of retro gaming and beat 'em up enthusiasts. It offers a chance to relive the nostalgic days of classic gaming and remains a cherished title in the Super Famicom library.
The quality of this port is exceptional, offering a smooth and engaging gameplay experience. If you're a fan of both this game and the Megadrive, don't miss the opportunity to give it a spin – it's truly outstanding.

Earthion is a horizontal scrolling shoot 'em up, with players controlling a spaceship as they battle their way through waves of enemies. The game features a variety of different levels, each with its own unique challenges.
The footage shown at TGS was from the game's opening level, and it gave fans a good taste of what to expect from Earthion. The game's visuals are impressive for a Mega Drive game, and the gameplay looks to be both challenging and rewarding.
Earthion is set to be released in 2024, and it is one of the most anticipated upcoming games for the Mega Drive. It is sure to be a must-have for fans of shoot 'em up games.
Personal Thoughts
I am very excited for Earthion. I am a big fan of shoot 'em up games, and I am also a fan of Yuzo Koshiro's music. The footage that I have seen of Earthion so far looks very promising, and I am looking forward to playing the game when it is released in 2024.

Players are tasked with aligning colorful bubbles of the same type to eliminate them from the screen, creating chain reactions for higher scores. The responsive controls make it a joy to play, and the competitive aspect of the game adds to its replay value.
One notable drawback is the lack of substantial innovation compared to other puzzle games of its time, which may lead to it feeling slightly repetitive after extended play sessions. However, the game's fun and straightforward nature still make it a worthwhile addition to any NeoGeo MVS library.
Overall, "Puzzle de Pon" is an entertaining and addictive puzzler that embodies the charm of classic arcade gameplay. Whether you're a puzzle enthusiast or just looking for a casual gaming experience, this title is sure to deliver hours of fun.
