This lot comes from Gargari village near the city of Gedeb in Yirgacheffe and consists of the unique Kurume variety. Kurume is a subvariety of Ethiopian heirloom, known for its tiny, dense beans and exceptional cup quality. We tasted sweet cream, apricot, deep red berries, and berry dark chocolate.
Note: We brewed it at a lower temperature and longer draw down time, however Archetype suggests a higher temperature, faster draw down time. We encourage you to experiment with both, and see what your preference is! Here's their dial, and you can also find it expanded in our Brew Guide linked below:

Today’s drop is a succulent cup from an acclaimed estate - and it’s in limited supply - Kenya Oreti Estate AA by Proud Mary!
Oreti is one of the few remaining private coffee estates in Kenya, a 90 acre plot resting on a ridge below the Aberdare Mountains. Established in 1946, the estate is run by fifth generation producer Boyce Harries and continues to deliver spectacular coffees. AA is the largest bean size in Kenyan coffee, prized for crisp acidity and complex flavors. We tasted honeysuckle, jasmine, currant, chamomile, and sweet barley tea.

Verve has a long relationship with Juan Benitez and the Pacas from his small family farm exemplifies the unique cultivar in all its tropical complexity. April sourced this coffee through their single farm project, finding and spotlighting incredible individual producers. This is their first year working with Regessa, who owns a 4 hectare farm in Bombe Village planted exclusively with the Krume 74158 variety. He also owns a small drying station where this lot was processed. We tasted a balanced cup of jammy raspberries, strawberries, fresh basil, Meyer lemon, and florals, with a delicate, tealike body that turns juicy at the end.

The Tumba washing station in Rwanda's mountainous Rulindo district came under new direction a few years ago by Venustre Mugraneza: a local teacher who has been systematically improving the mill to much acclaim. His quality control is evident in this cup, allowing the special terroir to shine through. We tasted Earl Grey tea, sweet lemon, honey roundness, a limelike acidity, and a tealike body.

A former chemical engineer, Wilton Benitez is among Colombia’s most innovative and acclaimed producers. This Gesha lot went through 52 hours of anaerobic yeast fermentation before being subjected to thermal shock: exposed to high and then low temperatures to bring out unique flavors and aromas. We tasted ripe tropical fruit, red tea, passionfruit, jasmine, and a punchy key lime acidity.

Myin Dwin is both the name of this coffee’s variety and the village it was grown in. The village led the way in Myanmar’s Shan State when they moved from growing heroin poppies to coffee in the 1990s, bringing countless positive changes to the community. Their coffees are consistently high scoring and the profits are distributed equitably within the village’s households. We tasted a light, balanced cup of ripe red fruit, red currants, and berries.

This coffee is named “Ardi” after a humanoid skeleton found in the same region where it was grown: a tribute to how both coffee and humanity originated in Ethiopia. We tasted hibiscus, peaches, lychee, raspberry, blueberry, rooibos tea, a stone fruit acidity, and a creamy yet clean body. Delish!

Wilson Ordoñez is a third-generation producer in Huila, Colombia who specializes in exotic coffees, among them the rare Orange Bourbon: a Bourbon mutation with a captivating orange hue. This lot went through meticulous processing including 50 hours of anaerobic deep-pulp fermentation, enhancing its complexity and depth of flavor. We tasted tangerine water, orange Hi-C, cantaloupe, a sparkling acidity, a silky body, and a round sweetness.

Tim Wendelboe has worked with Colombia’s Finca Tamana for more than a decade, and helped the farm’s owner Elias Roa plant the Red Bourbon seeds in this lot. Red Bourbon is slightly fruitier than the more floral Pink Bourbon and both varieties were combined to make what Tim calls: “one of the best coffees we have tasted from Tamana.” We tasted red fruit, citrus, florals, and a smooth, round body.

Edil Quinayás has worked in coffee his entire life and received a parcel of land from the Huila government as part of a grant for indigenous communities. After planting it with Pink Bourbon trees and working for years to improve processing, Edil sent a sample to the producer-led initiative Monkaaba, and they were blown away by the quality. We tasted white and pink florals, deep red fruits, and grapefruit - a stunner!

Wilton Benitez is a chemical engineer turned coffee producer who operates a microbiology lab on his family-run Granja 92 farm. This Caturra lot went through two anaerobic fermentation phases: first in the cherry with a yeast inoculation, then pulped with mucilage under strict processing protocols. We tasted lychee, ripe banana, mango, and pineapple.

In 2023, Boram Um became the first World Barista Champion to win using a coffee produced on their family farm. After his father, the son of South Korean immigrants, purchased an abandoned coffee farm in Brazil, Borum entered the industry and is now at the forefront of elevating Brazilian coffee to the world. This round and balanced natural process was sorted both before and after roasting to ensure impeccable quality control. We tasted yellow plum, nougat, dark berries, and hazelnut.

In 2016, Luz Divia “Sandy” Fierro and her husband planted thousands of Pink Bourbon trees on what used to be a cattle farm in Palestina. The hybrid variety can be traced to Ethiopian landraces and this washed lot was love at first sip. Julio Cesar is a third-generation grower who pushes the boundaries of coffee processing at Finca Milan, located in the central foothills of the Andes. This nitro washed coffee is a result of Julio's innovative protocols, in which nitrogen was injected during fermentation to facilitate microbial metabolic processes. The result is a delicate, sweet, and perfectly balanced cup. We tasted watermelon, guava, cantaloupe, and sweet cucumber water.

Grown high in Yirgacheffe and processed at the Konga sun-drying station, this Grade 1 lot is the highest quality offered in Ethiopia: only the ripest cherries, meticulously sorted to reduce defects. Rodrigo Sanchez’s family-run Finca Monteblanco in Colombia has a reputation for both rare varieties and unique fermentation methods. This Purple Caturra lot was handpicked, washed, and then fermented for 150 hours in a special “mojito” culture of sugar, molasses, lemon juice, and a mint infusion. The result is dynamic and refreshing. We tasted sweet lime juice, fresh mint, cane sugar, and cardamom.

Luis Anibal Calderon began working on his father’s coffee farm at age 9, and has made it his life's passion to cultivate unique varieties. His farm Villa Betula has grown to become one of the most forward-thinking plantations in Colombia. This Pink Bourbon lot spent six days in anaerobic tanks before being dried, developing a boozy yet balanced flavor profile. We tasted limeade, pineapple, semi-sweet grapefruit, and sweet fruit juiciness.

This coffee comes from Nancy Milena and Robison Pilliume’s farm, tucked in Colombia’s Cordillera Central mountain range. Their journey of cultivating coffee begins at the ground level, using organic methods to focus on soil health and protect the environment. The result is a nicely complex yet mellow cup. We tasted grape, milk chocolate, pink florals, white tea, a silky body, a purple grape acidity, and a sweet cream finish.

This coffee was grown in Jagong Jeget where almost 90% of the population work in agriculture, particularly coffee, which flourishes in the region’s rich black humus soil. The anaerobic processing brings out crisper, sweeter notes than a typical Sumatra. We tasted jasmine, green tea, red berries, spices, vanilla, and dark chocolate.

La Cabra first visited the Herbazu micromill in 2015 and found their SL28 lot to be the cleanest representation of the varietal outside of Kenya. The coffee went on to win Costa Rica’s Cup of Excellence and we’re thrilled to offer this year’s lot here. Finca El Pino is virtually inaccessible most of the year due to rainfall and dirt roads. The farm is managed by Nicolas Alvarado and his family without any hired help, and their fruit-forward coffees are a testament to their love and persistence. We tasted tart cranberry, pink florals, elderberry, a crisp green apple acidity, and a lingering juicy lime finish.

Located on the slopes of Poás Volcano, Volcan Azul has been in Alejo Castro’s family for 200 years, and under his management the farm has twice won Costa Rica’s Cup of Excellence. This Caturra lot is from the farm’s Gran Reserva selection, composed of micro and nano lots with unique and exotic qualities. We tasted maraschino cherry, cacao nib, and deep red fruit, with a boozy aroma, a citrus acidity, and a dark chocolate aftertaste.

Ruben Vega inherited his three acre farm 12 years ago and planted it exclusively with Gesha. He sent this lot to Panama’s CCD for processing, which pioneers state-of-the-art new methods, among them: “Dynamic Cherry”. This process involves an extended anaerobic fermentation of up to 96 hours, bringing an intense fruitiness to Gesha’s signature delicate floral notes. We tasted red cherry, fruit punch, pink florals, a sparkling stone fruit acidity, and a silky clean body.

This is Coffee Collective’s first offering from the Worka cooperative, which is made up of smallholder farmers in southern Yirgacheffe. The high elevation and perfect geographical location makes for some of the cleanest and most consistent coffees in the region. We tasted peach, pink florals, honeydew melon, a stone fruit acidity, a silky-clean body, and a round sweetness emerging as it cools.

29-year-old Vanessa Garcia Flores recently took over her family’s farm in Veracruz. She entered this exceptional honey process coffee in Mexico’s Cup of Excellence and this is the first time it’s available outside of the country! Tucked in the mountains of a nature reserve, Los Altiplanos enjoys a tropical cloud forest climate, where producer Ricardo Cuadra cultivates the unique Java varietal. Not to be confused with the Indonesian island, the Java varietal comes from an Ethiopian landrace cultivar which was first grown on Java and then taken to Central America where it earned acclaim for its delicate floral and tea-like qualities.
We tasted citrus florals, ripe melon, black tea with lemon, a sparkling grape-like acidity, and a smooth, creamy body.

One of Unity’s closest partners, Finca Alaska has an unusually cold microclimate for Guatemala, producing sweet and vibrant coffees. This lot was fermented twice before being washed and dried for 20 days. We tasted pink cotton candy, peach rings, oolong tea, and lime, with a sparkling grapefruit acidity, a tea-like body, and a cherry hard candy finish.

Belift is on a mission to redefine Indonesian specialty coffee, from careful sourcing and processing, to expert roasting. This coffee was grown on the slopes of the volcanic Mount Ijen and roasted in Surabaya, East Java, making it 100% Java in every sense.
We tasted blood orange, blueberry, passionfruit, and hibiscus, with a silky body, a grapefruit acidity, and a lingering dark chocolate aftertaste.

Presta worked with exporter Forest to prepare this set of three Colombian coffees, each co-fermented with a different fruit—peach, grape, and strawberry. They took a low and slow roasting approach to protect the coffees’ fresh, bright flavors and the results are juicy and unique. Enjoy three clean, intensely fruited cups.

After a challenging year of drought and unrest, the 2022 harvest from Guji’s Dambi Uddo washing station benefited from ripening rains, and this lot is beautifully floral and elegant. We tasted jasmine, peach rings, green grape, elderberry, a sparkling stone fruit acidity, and a clean, tea-like body.

Around 1,400 small-holder farmers contribute cherries to the Karamikiu Coffee Factory, grown in deep red volcanic soils on the southern slopes of Mt Kenya. This fully washed lot stood out from the many Sightglass sampled this season for its peachy crème brûlée notes. We tasted jasmine, Meyer lemon, wildflower honey, and black tea, with a grapefruit acidity and a silky body.
