The 2018 course for the Bob Marshall Wilderness Open was from the North Fork Trailhead at the south end of the Bob all the way to Marias Pass on Hwy 2. 17 participants lined up at the start.
My route between these points went over the Scapegoat Plateau, down Straight Creek and the SF Sun River, up the Sun River Valley and over Sun River Pass to the Middle Fork Flathead.

Chapter Nine covers the southbound hike of Section A from Coleman, Alberta to the USA border at Waterton National Park. This hike totals 160km (km 2140 - 2300) over 4.5 days.
This section of the GDT runs from Coleman, Alberta through the newly created Castle Provincial Park and Castle Wildlands Provincial Park, and then into Waterton National Park, providing one of the first looks at how the Kenow Fire of 2017 has impacted the Waterton landscape.
Highlights include snowy alpine, a final day blizzard, trees still smoking a month after the fire, and the blackened post fire landscape of Waterton National Park.
Chapter Eight covers the southbound hike of Section B (Peter Lougheed to Coleman), totalling 190km (km 1950 - 2140) over 6 days.
This section of the GDT runs from Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, through Elk Lake Provincial Park, Beehive Natural Area and a lot of other crown land that desperately needs protection from the clearcut loggers and coal miners, including the headwaters of the Old Man River.
Chapter Seven covers the southbound hikes of Section D (Saskatchewan Crossing to Field) and Section C (Field to Peter Lougheed), totalling 310km (km 1640 - 1950) over 10 days.
This section of the GDT runs through Banff National Park, Yoho National Park, Kootenay National Park, back into Banff and then through Assiniboine Provincial Park, Height of the Rockies Provinical Park and Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. Highlights include the Rockwall Trail and Assiniboine Lodge.
Chapter Six covers the Jasper to Saskatchewan Crossing section of the Southbound leg (km 1450 - 1640) over 6.5 days.
This section runs through Jasper National Park, the White Goat Wilderness, and bits of Banff National Park. Highlights include the Skyline Trail, and the world class scenery from Cataract Pass through the White Goat Wilderness.
