Mani ManiThe first run I've made in a single take. I came pretty close to dying twice, though, so I guess that's not a testament to my skill so much as luck.
Shovel Knight is a pretty easy boss to cheese out, as he's entirely faithful to how he controls in his own mode. There's an achievement for not breaking any of the grey blocks during the fight, which strikes me as far more difficult than the fight itself.

Easy first boss, especially compared to the Shovel/Plague Knight version. The second boss is pretty easy if you're not trying to rush it. I wanted to rush it, so I died. The reason the Chronos Coin does not consume any Darkness during the second fight is because it doesn't actually work. I didn't realize this until I'd switched to something else on another attempt, and felt pretty stupid for not realizing it. Beyond that, it's a more manageable version of the Tinker Knight fight, with the only things the player really has to worry about being staying on the rail and not getting hit by projectiles. Timestamps won't be necessary, as it's impossible to miss where the skulls are in this video.Spectre Knight - 100% Red Skull Video Guide (Tower of Fate: Entrance)Mani Mani2017-12-01 | Decided to stick with a run where I died again. Not a fan of the room I died in, mostly due to my own impatience. A common issue with these vertical autoscrolling rooms is that they move so slow that you actually have to wait for them to catch up to you or you won't see where you need to go, and I'm not nearly as familiar with the geometry here as I am with earlier levels. I did like the way they mixed in elements of previous stages, however. Not so much the new version of the second (third?) Black Knight fight, as my complete failure to use the Chronos Coin at the start shows. The combination of Black Knight flying, moving so slowly from one side to the other, and standing atop a moving target that is both invincible and pushes him away if you hit it instead of Black Knight makes the fight tedious. As usual, the Chronos Coin trivializes Propeller Knight, but so does Spectre Knight's method of attacking and staying in the air. It's the opposite of Plague Knight's version of the fight, really. The other half was because I am very bad at handling autoscrolling bosses, and autoscrolling in general. Saved this run regardless because I'd already gotten as far as I did to begin with and didn't feel like recording another full run. Phantom Striker as the boss of the Lich Yard was a pretty neat idea. His gimmick fits in well with the darkness/lightning flash setup some of the rooms has. Sadly, the Chronos Coin is not as effective against him due to his frequent projectile use and invincibility phases. Treasure Knight himself might've been an issue, but the Chronos Coin combined with Spectre Knight's mobility trivializes him and most other bosses in general. This is not that run, because I failed to record it. As such, I'll be editing this description with time stamps for each "Red" Skull. The Lost City is truly a miserable experience for me, it seems. I would wholly recommend saving it for last if you're trying to get all of the Red Skulls in one go, or just skipping some of them and coming back when you have more Curios. Had a few resets thanks to the occasional stupid death. I have some trouble with boss fights, it seems, owing to a desire to get them down with very quickly.Spectre Knight - 100% Red Skull Video Guide (The Plains)Mani Mani2017-11-30 | Very belated uploads, likely long after they'd be useful, but I felt like doing it anyways.
Playing as Spectre Knight is remarkably stressful compared to either Shovel Knight or Plague Knight due to the contextual nature of his dash strike and the minor dexterity requirement in his wall jumping.XCOM 2 - Taking the Long WayMani Mani2016-02-11 | XCOM 2 has been fairly buggy since launch. While I haven't run into issues too often myself, when the game does fuck up it is usually either annoying (game crashing) or hilarious.
This video is a perfect example of the latter, with my star operative Miguel running to Hell and back just to take cover on a nearby roof.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - Tower of Fate: AscentMani Mani2015-09-21 | The final stage is a frustrating one, mostly because of cramped corridors and frequent enemy placement. The coins themselves aren't in very troublesome places, however. Just keep calm and keep your Vat handy to bail you out if you get knocked towards lava.
The Knight Boss Rush fight is not particularly difficult, as most of the Knights are pretty easy and Propeller Knight loses the biggest advantage he had over you: his bottomless pits. The Cascade powder is a godsend against some of them, while the Black powder is preferable otherwise.
Despite that, Propeller Knight is still moderately difficult and Polar knight can still instantly kill you with his spikes. With with how long the stage is and how many attempts this took, I decided to just roll with my death here. This brings the number of deaths that the game will actually count to 10, I think, though if you add the rest in it's probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-60.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - Tower of Fate: EntranceMani Mani2015-09-21 | This one took two attempts, which is less than I expected. The stage is somewhat challenging the first time through, but once you know the full layout and what bomb parts work well for each screen, you shouldn't have any trouble with it.
Like Propeller Knight, the best thing I found to deal with Black Knight is to use Cascade Powder bombs while on the ground. Once he takes to the air you'll want to use Lobbing grenades with Cluster powder when he's summoning meterors, and otherwise using the Spin Burst to ram into him.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - VillageMani Mani2015-09-20 | Uploaded more for completion's sake than anything else. There's only four coins in the Village and all of them can be gotten on your first visit. The first coin is right in plain sight, and the remaining three aren't hard to find at all.
Mona is pretty cute, though, so I recommend revisiting her as much as you can.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - Flying MachineMani Mani2015-09-20 | All good things must come to an end. Between the length of the stage, the sheer number of "gotcha!" moments with new mechanics and enemies popping up, and Propeller Knight at the end, I decided that trying to get a deathless run just wasn't worth it. Even so, I wanted to at least get all the coins without dying.
The Spin Burst easily lets you push through some tense moments, but you might be more comfortable with the Float Burst instead. Much like the Polar Knight stage, you will want to simply take your time and not rush things, as tempting as it might be.
As for fighting Propeller Knight, I've found that Cascade Powder and the Impact Fuse let you rack up damage quickly, provided he doesn't just disarm your bombs with his charging attack. This strategy gets less reliable once he blows off bits of the stage. Once he takes to the air, switch to the Lob casing and shell him as much as you can, but make sure to switch to either the Drop casing or whatever one you prefer when he's ready to land again. He'll typically try to bump you off the stage when he lands, so be ready to Burst before he does.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - Stranded ShipMani Mani2015-09-20 | Not a particularly difficult stage with Plague Knight, though it can be difficult if you're hellbent on going as fast as possible. Take your time and don't go blindly forward and you shouldn't have any trouble.
Polar Knight is, much like Mole Knight, rendered trivial if you use well-placed smoke bombs. His snowballs can block your bombs, but unlike with Shovel Knight he won't try to block if you approach from the air.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - Shivering SprintMani Mani2015-09-20 | Don't get crushed! You actually might be able to get through the first half of the stage without the Fleet Flask, but the spike wall run would likely be impossible. If not, I'd love to see it done.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - Bottomless QuarryMani Mani2015-09-20 | Self-evident. All this side stage requires is knowledge of how the Vat works, and even in the room that requires you to use it several times in a row, they give you more than enough magic pots to take thinking out of it.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - Clockwork TowerMani Mani2015-09-20 | Finished this one on my first try. The stage is one of the more challenging ones as Shovel Knight, but good play with Plague Knight can eliminate most of the difficulty.
Tinker Knight is a very easy boss, especially for Plague Knight, since you have such high mobility and can attack in both phases from positions out of his reach. All the damage I took was from horribly sloppy play.
After you defeat your sixth Order of No Quarter opponent, Black Knight will spawn and attempt to block the rout to the other two Knights. As far as I know he won't start moving until you fight him once, so even if you take on Polar Knight before Tinker and Propeller, you'll still have to fight him next.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - Lost CityMani Mani2015-09-20 | This stage was hell for me, taking around twenty tries before I could actually get a full run. The instant death lava pits claimed most of those attempts, with a little help from the various miniboss enemies and those annoying bird heads.
Even without the Smoke Bomb, Mole Knight is a pretty easy boss, as most of his attacks simply require you to be higher in the air than him to avoid them. His little fireball storm after you dig him out of the ground can be avoided by simply walking back and forth, since the fireballs try to hit where you are at the moment they're launched, and the block throwing part just requires you to respond in kind with your bombs.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - Iron WhaleMani Mani2015-09-20 | Fourth attempt to clear. There would have been a fifth had it not been for quick thinking during the Angler miniboss fight. The Staff of Surging is pretty handy for correcting jumps if you messed up a Burst or got hit off a ledge, as is the Vat arcana you get in this stage. This is also around the time I'd recommend using the Float Burst if you aren't confident in your ability to handle the default variant.
Aside from that, the stage is actually significantly easier as Plague Knight than as Shovel Knight. It helps that the Lob Casing makes short work of the flying ghost/mage guys and the Cascade Powder hits the anchor knights more often and reliably than other bomb types.
Treasure Knight doesn't attack often enough to pose a significant threat, and just like Shovel Knight you can take advantage of his downtime during his own moves to repeatedly shell him.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - Hall of ChampionsMani Mani2015-09-20 | If you fail to get all the coins on your first successful run through this place, you have to pay gold to enter it again and will be on a time limit. Because the knights like to jump at you when attacking, you can end up killing them in your attempts to uncover any remaining coins.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - Armor OutpostMani Mani2015-09-20 | The only way to really miss these coins is if you just don't try to explore further to the right. None of the coins in the game can be permanently missed, however, so even if you forget to pick these ones up, you can still get them later.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - Forest of FishingMani Mani2015-09-20 | Some tricky platforming around the middle half, and the anchor-tossing knights are a little tougher to deal with than the charging and jumping varieties, but other than that this side stage is pretty simple.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - The Lich YardMani Mani2015-09-20 | This stage took about five runs to get one good enough to upload. Most of those came down to an early water hazard, though, and not the blackout areas. I guess I play extra cautiously when I can't see shit. The ghosts are a real pain in the ass in those areas and can easily box you in if you're not careful, however.
Specter Knight is a major step up from King Knight in terms of difficulty, but he can probably be defeated without using the Lob Casing. Still, I'd recommend using it, as it makes it significantly easier to keep hitting him.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - Pridemoor KeepMani Mani2015-09-20 | Actually had to make several takes for this one, for two reasons. The first is that I kept missing one coin—it was hidden behind a breakable block—and the second was because I kept trying (and failing) to be cool in the book/bottomless pit room near the end.
King Knight is a total pushover, not that I do a particularly good job of showing that. You can actually avoid being hit by him by throwing a bomb into him with proper timing, but I couldn't pull it off this time.Plague Knight 100% Cipher Coins - The PlainsMani Mani2015-09-20 | Self-Explanatory. The level is very easy and straightforward, though first time players will likely have trouble adjusting to Plague Knight's unique physics. The level makes a pretty decent playground for working out just how his jumping works.
