FPV - Drone Racing New Zealand Open 2025 - First Place!

BMSThomas 2025-02-20 | 2025 Quad Junkie New Zealand Open: Last weekend I became the first 4 x Champion of the NZO! It was a strong race for us which opened with TQ and brought along welcomed momentum into the final day, which finished with an awesome string of battles with IQ0 (P2), Wilf (P3) and Ironoid (P4).

The course was fun but challenging with the high 40kph gusting winds, 1.5m gates and a blend of both high speed and extremely technical sections of track. That being said I think everyone new or experienced with racing did a fantastic job of conquering the weekend and levelling up each others flying, right to the very last pack.

This was also the first race that we both raced in and was an official sponsor as BMS Racing! It was a truly an honour and pleasure for us to support the wonderful NZ FPV community, and it was especially heart warming to see many pilots enjoying our race drones to the limit, in both their piloting, and also customising to make the machines their own!

Always thanks to mum and dad for taking care of me (even when I'm recovering from a cold and still set on competing!), sponsors and technical partners for the continued support, and also the event organisers and New Zealand FPV Community! You rock and I can't wait to visit again!

BMSThomas 2024-03-04 | 2024 MMRC Round 2: First race back from New Zealand Open and I managed TQ and First place! It was a windy day but the wonderful high speed course designed by ArchmageAU made racing with inconsistent conditions a breeze! Of course this just meant we could all fly faster and made the repercussions of a mistake soar, nonetheless there was plenty of close batting across the entire field and many fun stories to share! Was really happy with my performance at this one, that being said there's still plenty of work to go :)

FPV Racing - 2024 Quad Junkie New Zealand Open - First Place

BMSThomas 2024-02-21 | 2024 Quad Junkie New Zealand Open: My first international race of the year and first international race pinching! When I made the change to pinching in December I hoped but knew the odds were low of being able to win a major title within 6 months, but 2.5 months into this new chapter, and I've managed to walk away with TQ and First place at the New Zealand Open!

Not only that but it was an insane battle right from first practice until the final race, trading new fast laps across the whole event, especially between IQ0 and WilfFPV. I'm so honoured to have started my international racing pinching era alongside the Kiwi FPV folk and many of our own from Australia. As always they put on one hell of an awesome show and were as genuine and welcoming as always. I can't wait to hang out with you all again.

A massive thanks to my parents, team sponsors, technical partners, friends and family for the support to keep chasing this dream wherever it leads. It's been an incredible start to the year, and I can't wait to keep pushing further into the depths of where FPV racing can go!

FPV Racing - 2024 MMRC Round 1

BMSThomas 2024-02-06 | 2024 MMRC Round 1: What a windy way to kick off the first MMRC Round, and my second race of the year/second race pinching! Stoked to have pulled off TQ and the win in this one. Although the wind made things rough I was really pleased with my progress compared to my performance from the previous race. There's still a long ways to go but I'm finding the consistency and confidence I once had, so fingers crossed that means not long before I'm in new territory!

Been really enjoying training lately, and can't wait to squeeze a little more performance out of myself before Eastside and NZO! Still a long ways to go, but its been fun reliving the learning how to fly journey, and enjoying the stage of quick progression, I know it'll be back to playing with fractions inevitably, but the journey's been fun!

The local scene has consistently evolved over the years with new people coming and going, so it's been fun getting to meet some of the new faces! This week we were also graced with the presence of @dimsim_fpv from Queensland & @propfpv from Western Australia! FPV Racing - 2024 Eastside FPV Summer Season Round 1

BMSThomas 2024-01-17 | 2024 Eastside FPV Summer Season Round 1: It's been a moment but I'm glad to be back! This is my first race of the year and first race in Australia pinching and sitting! To cut a long story short, in late 2021 I incurred a repetitive strain injury in my wrist (from overuse flying and simming), and since then haven't had the capacity to train or really go through daily life as I did before. Things didn't really get better over the two years, and I took a month off after my last race to figure out what I want to do with my future.

I came to the conclusion I'm either no longer racing competitively, or going to make some serious change to my methodology and try to keep pushing upwards at a fast enough pace to continue to be competitive at the elite level.

I started doing physio and working on a plan to stay in the game, and made the decision to switch to pinching and sitting to reduce wrist strain. Nick from @melbourne.hand.rehab has worked miracles and I'm regaining strength again to be able to train properly! It's going to be a long battle to fast track 11 years of thumbing experience to a totally new grip style, but through some good circumstance I managed to kick off the year with a win! It's going to be a lot of work, but in 2024 I'm focusing on my piloting how I dreamed of doing as an 18 year old in 2017.

Besides dad & myself, this was the first international race for the rest of the Aussie Team, & they did really well to make the most of it! FPV - 2023 Australian Drone Nationals - Final

BMSThomas 2023-09-01 | 2023 @missionfoodsanz Australian Drone Nationals: Five time Australian Drone Nationals Champion!! Last weekend still feels like a dream. As per usual this race has a habit of producing some of the tightest high adrenaline racing that FPV has to offer, with pilots from all over Australia & New Zealand battling it out in the final!

There were so many new & familiar faces from across my entire FPV Journey, & in many ways the build up for this race from qualifying earlier in the year, the sunset practice sessions & last minute development of the race machines, left me feeling a constant nostalgic & reflective feeling. Even more so there were so many parallels in the race itself to every Australian Drone Nationals that happened before.

A massive thank you to the AUFPV crew for putting on this amazing show, & especially Timothy Crofts for the massive effort he put in to bring us all the Drone Nationals to date. Your mark on the Australian & Global FPV scene cannot be understated, & especially for the Aussie crew, thank you so so much for all your hard work, love & passion for organising some of the greatest FPV events in the world.

FPV racing has one of the best communities in the world & this years nationals was once again a perfect show case of how incredible our community is from the pilots past & present, through to everyone who came along to support & watch the show in person, over the livestreams, or keeping in touch over socials & making everyone feel welcomed & loved! FPV - JS-2 Fun flying in the afternoon!

BMSThomas 2023-06-11 | It was a crisp & lovely afternoon, I had music on & was just enjoying turning laps on a fun course! Honestly not that much else to say, it was a chill day & was flying purely for the love of flying. It felt good & wanted to keep this flight here to return to one day! Hopefully you enjoy the ride too :D

Oh yeah also this is my fourth session on 50 degrees camera tilt! Besides flying other peoples quads here and there, this is my first camera angle change since ~AU Drone Nationals 2016 (At the time my JS-204 was fixed 40deg for qualifiers & races but I was rocking the prototype ImpulseRC Helix in practice which was fixed 45deg, and have been running 45 ever since until this month!).

Eh may as well throw this thought up here too since it's documenting where I'm at. I used to fly with only a slither of sky visable all the time & thats what made sense to me. I noticed in velocidrone about eight months ago, I started to make a concious effort to keep the quad banked over, & then at recent races I was finding the same concious thought appearing too. I guess my bias finally shifted to prefering horizon more centered for easier vertical manoeuvring. Yeah its weird, half way through the race in Korea I was like "Oh I think I can fly 50deg camera tilt now", and now I can!

Four sessions in my peak pace seems to be fine when I start well, but if I deviate from my prefered line I seem to revert back to how 45deg felt & thus throw myself further out of balance. Will be interesting to see how long it takes before 50deg feels like home, but the changeover has been more like a switch rather then the gradual change I expected an adjustment like this to be!

BMSThomas 2023-05-25 | Bet you didn't expect this to be my next upload XD (Don't worry we will get to the videos and races from last year and early this year shortly).

This was shot on the day before myself & Team BRIDE/Skydrone drove/flew out to JDL R1 in Saitama, Japan. Atsuki had a final battery to discharge and decided to use it for a Line of Sight (LOS) Acro in the afternoon sun. I would so love to be able to do this one day, but for now I'll live through this video, and the other opportunities I get to see Atsuki & others alike put on these crazy displays.

Also making a slight pivot on my socials back to how this account & my other personal accounts were originally intended for... sharing random stuff I find cool! Over the last year both inside and outside of FPV I've done quite a lot, and been stock piling tons of fun memories waiting for the time to edit them and share them.

To be honest I came to the realisation that for many of these things I won't have the time to polish them to the level I want, so I'm just going to share whatever cool adventures I go on with minimal post processing, mainly to have them documented somewhere where I should be safe to clear my HDD/SSDs for new things!

I guess this is the internet equivalent of home videos of the early 2000s & before??

MMRC Summer Season Round 3: It was a good day today! The weather was fantastic and we had a course that was mostly high speed, but featured a super tight hairpin corner to shake up the rhythm! It was a really fun day and it was awesome to catch up with the local crew again. This is my first race with Gemfan props since DR1 in 2018, and before that sometime late 2015-early 2016! It's been an interesting start to the year with a few unexpected shakeups, but I'm feeling fresh and excited to see what 2023 has in store.

FPV - 2022 Mission Foods Australian Drone Nationals

BMSThomas 2022-08-25 | 2022 MissionFoods Australian Drone Nationals: Wow... What a way to bring back our National race for the first time since 2019. We had more competitors then ever before, including an awesome visit from our Kiwi friends and even and entrant that travelled all the way from Japan! It was lovely to catch up with all the familiar and new faces over the course of the event, and it's so brilliant to see the high energy and enthusiasm across the board to push FPV and flying to new highs.

As far as the racing goes, the pace was blisteringly high. Even for pilots who had been out of the game for a while, they picked it back up in no time, and by the final day were pushing out personal bests just about every race. This time the race distance was set to slow down the field, which meant that throttle management was absolutely crucial to keeping a high pace across the three laps. I managed to set TQ and take first place overall, but oh what a battle it was. Honestly I want you to watch the BMSRacing coverage when that's released, so I'll keep the details low for now, but it was a good race right to the very end :)

Overall I'm left with a feeling of something like "what a way to kick things off". I am really excited to see the future of the Australian Drone Racing scene, and the influence it has in future global championships.

A massive thank you to Timmy, Scully and event organisers, without you we wouldn't have an Australian Nationals, and I always appreciate your never ending effort to put on an awesome event.

Thanks to everyone who visited and/or took part in the event. You give the race an irreplaceable atmosphere. Lets keep pushing that positive atmosphere across the FPV Community and throughout other industries too!

Finally a massive thank you to my parents, family, friends, sponsors and technical partners. Without the support of all of you, my racing career, or life for that matter couldn't be what it is. Whether you've been there from before my existence, or only just hopped onboard the BMS train, I appreciate you all and can't wait to see where the Journey goes from here.

One final note on the racing front, I've had a few messages saying how good it must be to finally have someone that can push me in Australia. I guess on paper my racing career looks pretty good to deceive people into thinking that I've had it easy. It's an extremely high compliment, but I have to say that never in my FPV Journey has the racetrack ever felt lonely. Whether I was racing StuntDoubleFPV, GoatFPV, Arktos, RekRek, Maverick, DougFPV, Redroo, FizzyFPV, TiltedFPV, Heepsy or IQ0, It has always been a battle to the finish line, and it's something I cherish and take with me wherever I go. We have a good scene in Australia and across the world, never forget that :)

FPV - MMRC Winter Season Round 2 - Final Race Before Australian Drone Nationals!

BMSThomas 2022-08-07 | MMRC Winter Season Round 2: My Last race before Australian Drone Nationals! The weather has been pretty poor in Melbourne and the ground was a swamp, but the sun shone and the wind was low, making for an awesome day of racing. The track had elements from the Australian Drone Nationals Track to give us as much preparation as possible for the real deal. Overall I was happy with my race performance! There is still much to do, but I can see the next steps, so I'll push to extract what more I can before the big race!

On that note the standard of flying was really high across the board today. Everyone is pushing hard to prepare for the Nationals and I absolutely love to see it. It was a pleasure spending time with the crew on and off the track. Cheers for the awesome day @melbournemultirotorracingclub . I look forward to seeing you again along with the rest of the racers at Australian Drone Nationals 2022!

BMSThomas 2022-07-13 | I've been full send with whatever work I can get done. It's been really fun even though I've barely shortened the list of things I want finished ASAP. It's also been raining a lot so I haven't flown much. That being said two days until acro submissions for AU Drone Nationals close so as soon as the sky cleared I brought a battery to the field. This was my only flight today, but maybe that also made it so enjoyable. 18 days until my next race, time to prepare everything I can from home so I'm ready for the good weather. With the rate at which things are moving and how much things are changing around me, it feels like a such a strange and interesting blend of the pre covid days with all the crazy news that's came along since. Overall the circumstances have treated me unusually well but it seems not everyone has had the same fortune. I hope whoever sees this message is ok or pulling through whatever they are facing!

FPV - Preparing for Man vs Machine

BMSThomas 2022-06-01 | Woah I haven't done one of these training compilations in a long time! At the time of writing this I am preparing to travel to Switzerland for the Swiss Drone Days. It will be my first time overseas since February 2020! I'll be performing some demonstrations along side Alex Vanover and the Swiss pilots, and will also race against a few different types of fully automated racing drones!

Between the winter madness and some other things I haven't been able to train as much as I would have liked, but hopefully I can put it together where it counts and put on a good show! (side note an absolutely massive thank you to those who have helped me get back into race trim!)

I can't wait to see my Swiss friends again and hopefully make some new friends too! Really excited to work with the University of Zurich and explore/show off their awesome technology on BMSWEB :D

FPV - Eastside FPV Summer Season Round 4

BMSThomas 2022-05-29 | Eastside Summer Season Round 4: My first race at Eastside for this year! It was so good to see everyone back here again. The weather was just about flawless and we had a Mooney FPV inspired course that may or may not have summoned the man himself!

This time around I was flying the @Pacificflyingmachines Hayabusa along side their motors and a Foxeer prototype FC and esc! The setup performed way beyond our expectations and we managed to take fastest lap and the win. This is the first time I've won a race day from start to finish with a quad that wasn't my own since early 2019! I can't wait to watch the edit come together on this little series and share what this quad is all about.

On that note this Friday I head out to Switzerland for the Swiss Drone Days! It's my first international adventure since February 2020. I can't wait to catch up with those attending, its been way too long! Anyways between this and some last minute testing, we didn't manage to get an upload out on the main channel this week. That being said we have tons of footage captured from other race days, testing and reviews so hopefully we can pre edit those so they can go live while we are away!

FPV - MMRC Summer Season Round 3

BMSThomas 2022-05-17 | 2022 MMRC Summer Season Round 3: This race didn't quite go to plan! We still managed to pull through ok and finish with the podium but I did find my fair share of challenges around this track. Not sure if it was just the conditions or my lack of sleep but I didn't feel the kind of sharpness I was after.

Besides my personal goals not tracking quite the path I wanted, the actual event itself was awesome! It's so good to have people returning to the race track, and getting to catch up and talk all things FPV with such a good crew. While I didn't fly it how I wanted I did really enjoy the track that Ironoid designed and I could have spent the whole day chasing lap times and finding more precision.

FPV - GoPro 10 Axisflying Air Force Pro Uncut Acro

BMSThomas 2022-04-26 | Hello! Here is some uncut footage from my flying with the Axis Flying Air Force Pro cinewhoop! I've been really excited to try this thing out, since before its release there was really nothing like it on the market, especially as a BNF package! This flying is really more in the domain of 5" acro quads but I was really impressed with how it performed. It's a nice blend of cinewhoop tripod feel with a boost in power and response!

The range is a little low since the crossfire rx and antenna are mounted in the middle of the frame, surrounded by eight motors, two escs and a fair bit of carbon. I might end up relocating it and swapping the camera out to see how much more I can extract from this platform.

I also left the GoPro audio on which can be a good indication of where the quad is performing at its happiest and where it struggles most.

BMSThomas 2022-04-04 | It's been awhile since I last posted here! The race on Sunday got cancelled due to poor weather conditions which has pushed the Foxeer Track video back till the next race. We have some more videos that we are filming after the F1 GP though so expect those soon! This week we are training the Australian Army Drone Racing team and preparing them for their demo displays at the Albert Park Grand Prix. If your coming down to the circuit, go give them a visit! I hear there may be some special demonstrations from them if your present at the right time 😉

At the end of the training session I got my quad out and flew the course a bit. Waaaah I love flying so much, nothing like settling in to the rhythm of a nice course during a calm sunset to round off the day.

FPV - Paradise in the Australian Summertime

BMSThomas 2022-03-06 | Hello! This footage was captured over my adventures in January/February. Overall it was a really fun couple months and I'm feeling more refreshed then ever before. Definitely keen to get out more in 2022! A quick update. As I write this we are working on the next parts of the Foxeer FPV Caesar race build video alongside a bunch of other really cool projects. It's been a busy time returning to the new normal schedule but I'm really excited to start showing you all what we have been working on lately.

Finally I'd like to extent my best wishes towards those in Ukraine trying to survive and/or protect their land and families. Hopefully things settle quickly and peacefully but regardless but it still blows my mind that anything like this could happen in the modern era. FPV - Track flying again with friends!

BMSThomas 2021-11-17 | Was so fun to catchup with friends and fly together again! Ironically shortly after this flight I damaged something in my wrist so I actually haven't done much in the way of flying since this video. It seems to be healing up slowly but surely so I'll definitely be back on the road and in the air again soon :) Overall though looking back at my song choice the lyrics really resonate now that I want to be back flying again 😂

FPV - Initial T

BMSThomas 2021-08-27 | Over the last ~6 months I've found myself wanting to return to video making as much as I want to fly, and finally in the right position to start!

For quick backstory, as a kid I was always fascinated with the film industry and used to love making short films.. and ohhh I miss it so much!! I really wanted to give this video an Initial D feel, with grading that is a somewhat similar feel the Initial D live action version and Tokyo Drift, but it turned out to become somewhat of it's own grade thats probably like 0.001% Transformers colours? Regardless Learnt a ton making this and can't wait to make the next one!!

BMSThomas 2021-07-17 | MMRC Winter Season Round 1: What an epic start to the new season! The weather was chilly but there was almost no wind for most of the day. The turn out was really good and it was really relaxed. We ran a new race format this time and it was an absolute success. The racing was absolutely spectacular, especially in the mid field. The track designed by ThirdEyeFPV was incredibly fun to fly too! The varying radiuses made it really fun to explore and the long straights made for some nice breathing room to play with the throttle and have a nice reminder of how epic the machines we pilot are. Can't wait for next time!!

BMSThomas 2021-06-24 | EastsideFPV 20/21 Season Round 7 FINAL: I managed to win the finals and with that the whole Eastside FPV season for 2020/2021! This one was pretty special to me since it was my first race with the new BMS Raptor V2 motors. They performed flawlessly and allowed me to spend my time focusing on the flying itself, snagging me an extra couple laps over FP1 and FP2 on this mammoth track! Speaking of the track, this was a special one designed by BizzFPV. The goal was to use every element Eastside had to offer which made for quite the adventure! Track time was precious since the race distance called for a two lap race. It made it quite hard to get settled and thus my flying wasn't as smooth as I would have hoped for.

Overall for my first race out of lockdown and first race with the new motors I am really happy with the result! Thanks to all who attended and made the season possible!

Really can't wait to get out flying more and spend more time exploring!

Fun-fact, since the release of these motors, my main fleet shares no parts besides the frame with how it was back in 2019, and the weight of our quads has dropped from ~295g to ~266g with increases in power from the powertrain! My official motor write-up:
The BMS Raptor V2 is every bit the same spirit as the original Raptor series, but amplified. The core focus of its development was simple, outperform the BMS Raptor series V1 motors in every aspect. To achieve this we analysed each component in detail, to find new ways to extract the next level of performance.

We began by adding lightness where possible, especially focusing on the rotating components of the Raptor V2. This increased the response of the motor, allowing for an even more razor sharp in-flight feel, and increased efficiency across the entire throttle range.

Next we overhauled the electrical components, which improved the heat management of the stator, allowing the Raptor V2 to run at higher output, for longer.

All these improvements allowed us to redesign the static components of the motor to allow for 'race durability', which is enough durability to handle the volatile environment of a racetrack without harming the characteristics and performance of the motor.

The shape of the Raptor V2 was directly influenced by the Raptor V1, and sculpted by the pursuit of lightness. It features a new Bronze finish, which works well with a wide range of color schemes, and helps to accentuate the lines and shape of the motor.

That is the BMS Raptor V2 motor. A no compromise successor featuring higher performance, updated looks and a lot of love from the BMS and T-Motor family. Happy flying!

Was awesome to finally hang out after all this time and find out how similar our FPV habits are (I guess due to beginning our FPV Quad Journey in a pretty similar time period). Was really quite a throwback to to those earlier years (I know 2016 wasn't that long ago but really feels like it was an eternity ago in FPV terms XD). For me that feeling was extended when I found a backup HDD that had my old YouTube intro and some music from Extan! With that I decided it was fitting to use Extan's music and my old intro with this very nostalgic style follow footage we pulled off.

FPV - MMRC Summer Season Round 5

BMSThomas 2021-05-30 | MMRC Summer Season Round 5: Woohoo I won the final race and the season! 😍 Actually so thankful we even got to run at least one full race season during these highly volatile times. This track was designed by FPVKentucky. It had a really nice rhythm to it and would love to have flown more packs on it! Everyone brought their A game to this one and definitely kept me on my toes! (I highly recommend skipping to race round 4 of A Division in the livestream if you want to see 😅).

For the YouTube viewers, the first clip in the video was some really nice sunset training I had earlier in the month. I had just finished a fixed wing session and decided to discharge the last of my 4s batteries on my normal race rig. Was really fun having all the torque and lightweight feel with those batteries... definitely going to explore that specific route some more in future.

BMSThomas 2021-05-03 | EastsideFPV Round 6: I just found out that its one season for the whole year now, so I just updated the title of my last Eastside video to match :D I think I performed really well at this one. The track was a big one but I seemed to jell quite nicely with the lines and was able to pull decent time out of the track with minimal risk. Would have loved to have spent more time tidying up the lines for a magic run since there was so much to explore and I think this track can look really pretty!

BMSThomas 2021-04-18 | MMRC Summer Season Round 4 - Dad designed the track for this race, and I really loved it!! Honestly I loved the whole day from start to finish. The weather was amazing, the environment was really relaxed and I was somehow able to really fall into rhythm with the quad. The day really reminded me of how I felt behind the Helix back in 2017-mid 2018. I haven't felt that level of calm in a long time. Definitely going to be spending a lot of time reflecting on the day, I hope I can experience this feeling again soon!

BMSThomas 2021-04-04 | I didn't get much flying in this week! Basically on Monday I decided to fit a new head unit to my car so I get wireless Apple CarPlay, and long story short I found a lot of things to work on and ended up spending three full days, morning to night, working on the car! Between that teeny tiny miss calculation and Easter I didn't get much time to fly, but when I did man did I have a ball!! The F-16 chase video was one take, one flight for the whole day and the second video was from a sneaky sunset session! There was no timing system, and my flight time was dictated by how much sun was left, hence the less polished flight :)

Quick side note: The F-16 is probably my favourite plane of all time! I used to dream of getting to fly one and I think chasing that model really re-ignited my passion for it. I guess long story short... don't be surprised if there is a big return to our fixed-wing routes on the BMS channel :)

Extra side note: Me fixing my car really messed up our upload schedule on the BMSRacing channel too! But do expect some really cool videos over there to be released!

BMSThomas 2021-03-28 | I really fell into rhythm in the second flight of this video! It was the perfect weather, the perfect track, and the perfect time for my mind to sync with its surroundings. Had a chain of amazing flights that felt really magical and healing for me. I've been rediscovering a lot of my old methods lately and in many ways coming full circle back to how I used to operate. It kind of feels like all the little experiences and lessons I've accumulated over my life have started coming together in the right combinations. I hope It keeps happening because Im really enjoying the results!

BMSThomas 2021-03-14 | This was from an incredibly busy week! I was pretty run down during the time I did this flight. I was out flying for three reasons that day: Make a flight video for an acro competition (due that night), test a new adjustable camera mount for the Apex and finally the main reason... because flying is freaking fun! After doing all the testing I decided I needed a de-stress flight, so I just whacked on a nice tune and let the flying happen! Ironically its probably one of my favourite flights, even with the slight vibrations from the new mount (the occasional spring effect in some manoeuvres). Definitely going to need a different mount for my normal flying but for cinematics I think this one will be very practical!

FPV - DJI FPV Debut! - A slice of my week

BMSThomas 2021-03-08 | What an insanely busy week! This video is a compilation of some of my favourite flights over the week, ranging from test footage through to a demonstration hosted by GMAC, MMRC, XM2, DJI and Mission Foods. 100% my highlight was the demo day. Absolutely loved hanging out with everyone, track time was awesome and I really felt a bit of normality getting to show off DJI's new toy to some of their engineers, representatives and the general public!

For those wondering about my thoughts on the DJI FPV combo after playing with it for a full week:
-Wow the tech on this thing is insane, would love to carry some of this over to our traditional copters.
-The new FPV system is a major step up from the current air unit and vista systems. Having done back to back flights the latency of DJI vs analog isn't comparible so no way I would switch to it for racing unless I found myself in a DR1 scenario again.
-The efficiency of this thing is insane, there's a lot of magic in the design of that quad and engineering that I can't help but appreciate, if they ever decide to make a racequad as we know it I wonder how it would shake up the market. Many of the concepts in it are nothing new... but just implemented beautifully and in perfect balance.
-Holy moly I love 4K.
-Its 1000% a flying MacBook, not a race drone as we know it. That doesn't mean its bad, for people who complain it sucks because its fragile, go throw your computer at a wall at 100km/h or turn your car into a wall and see how that works out. If you fly within your skillset like you would treat a car or any other piece of precision equipment, this becomes a non issue. Does that mean all quads should be built the same? No, different tech for a different purpose.
-With that it is by no means a replacement for the equipment we have, but rather an addition that can be utilised on the field when the time is right. For some people it will be the one drone they need, and for others like myself, it'll be here to stay as a valued part of the fleet :)

Since I just took my last acro quad out of action I thought I'd try the top mount life again for acro and see how I like it! So far all I've done is switch to HQ R42 Props, upgrade to Betaflight 4.2.8 and put a light tune on it! Definitely has way more tuning room left but it's dialled in enough now to get a feel for that kind of flying again! I definitely need to move the camera forward or switch to the Foxeer T-Rex Mini Cam but it's nice returning to traditional frame layouts for a change!

I also discovered the saying curiosity killed the cat is a pretty accurate summary of how that day turned out 😂 Now to decide whether to replace it with another Apex, a new design or the Avada X245! (They all have sentimental value to me 😂😭)

FPV - MMRC Summer Season Round 2

BMSThomas 2021-02-14 | MMRC Summer Season Round 2: I was really happy with my flying at this race! I really struggled with the split-S between the flags so it was a real fun challenge working out how I can save time and improve my flying during the race day. I had some really amazing battles with HeepsyFPV too (we definitely touched props a few times 😅). Overall a really enjoyable day with lovely people! I hope our third lockdown is short so we can get back to flying soon! 😍🚀

FPV - EastsideFPV Round 3

BMSThomas 2021-02-07 | EastsideFPV Summer Season Round 3: This race went really well for me. The track was pretty technical but was quite flowly and I wish I could have done more flights on it! The only stressful part about the track was how common mid airs were due to the way it would pull all the quads onto colliding lines but somehow I managed to avoid all the quads and actually had a clear run for pretty much the whole event!

First video is from Heat 6 which you can view on the EastsideFPV YoutTube Livestream. Second clip is post race discharging the batteries! I've been enjoying park flying a lot lately, something about the simplicity of it and how reflective it is has been kind of satisfying and healing.
