“The car was down the side of a cliff...held up by a single tree. And beyond that there was nothing but the ocean.”

Shortly after midnight on June 22, 2024, the Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) received an automated iPhone alert of a potential car accident near a steep cliff in Hanalei. When officers responded to the scene, they found a vehicle dangling about 30 to 40 feet above the rocky coastline, with the driver still inside.
