February 20, 2024, was Carlos Sweeney’s second day of work as a Community Service Aid (CSA) with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office in New Mexico. CSA Sweeney was heading out on patrol with Deputy Connor Otero, a 12-year veteran of the BCSO, when the two men received a call about an abandoned vehicle. As they pulled up, Deputy Otero quickly realized the scene was far from what they had expected.
