Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is now available, and this is my full review after around 50 hours on PS5 Pro, covering gameplay, visuals, performance, sound, story and replayability.

Black Flag Resynced keeps the core loop that made the original so beloved, sailing and exploring between locations while tackling the main story, side quests, assassination contracts and naval contracts. The combat controls have been remapped from the face buttons to the shoulder buttons, with R1 to attack, L1 to parry and free aim on L2, which takes a moment to adjust to but feels great once it clicks. The naval combat remains largely unchanged and is still some of the best ship combat out there.
Visually the remake is stunning, with PSSR doing heavy lifting in Performance Mode and excellent HDR throughout. The standout is the ray tracing, with ray traced global illumination and reflections that look incredible during and after rainstorms. The PS5 Pro uses the full extended ray tracing across all modes, while the base PS5 and Xbox Series X drop to more basic ray tracing in Performance Mode. On performance, all three modes are rock solid, with Fidelity locked at 30fps, Balanced at 40fps and Performance at 60fps, and not a single frame drop across testing.
The naval combat sound effects are a real highlight, though the sea shanties are a personal miss for me. The story adds genuinely new content beyond the original, which is a real treat for longtime fans, and there is a mountain of side content, legendary ships and collectibles to keep you busy well beyond the roughly 50 hour main journey. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced earns a 9 out of 10 and comes highly recommended to open world and Assassin's Creed fans alike.
