disney has recently made two bold decisions when casting some of their most iconic animated characters for live-action adaptations. halle bailey will be playing ariel in "the little mermaid" and yara shahidi will be playing tinker bell in "peter pan and wendy". what do both of these actors have in common? (aside from both being part of the main cast of freefrom's "grown-ish") they're both black actors playing roles that have been perceived to be white by the masses, even though they're both mythological fairy tale creatures.
some people have a bone to pick with these casting choices and others are praising the choices, especially because of the representation that comes along with them. so let's discuss.
