Neck pain and headaches are incredibly common—but when are they connected, what could be causing them, and can chiropractic care actually help?

In this episode of Talking With Docs, Dr. Brad Weening and Dr. Paul Zalzal are joined by Dr. Corinne Roughsedge, chiropractor at Beach Chiropractic & Wellness Centre, to discuss neck pain, headaches, posture, “tech neck,” chiropractic adjustments, mobility, and how chiropractors assess and treat patients experiencing these common symptoms.

Dr. Corinne Roughsedge holds a BA (Hon.) and Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree and practices at Beach Chiropractic & Wellness Centre in Wasaga Beach, Ontario. With nearly 30 years of experience, she explains how neck pain and headaches can sometimes be connected, what chiropractors look for during an assessment, and the different treatment approaches that may be used depending on the patient.

The conversation explores common causes of neck pain and headaches, including poor posture, prolonged computer and phone use, stress, sleeping awkwardly, and reduced mobility. Dr. Roughsedge also explains the difference between certain types of headaches, including cervicogenic headaches and tension-type headaches, and why identifying the source of the pain matters.

The doctors also discuss what actually happens during a chiropractic neck adjustment, why the familiar “cracking” sound occurs, alternative adjustment techniques for patients who do not want their neck manually manipulated, and the role of soft tissue therapy and mobilization.

Importantly, the conversation also addresses concerns around neck adjustments and stroke, including vertebral artery dissection, warning signs chiropractors look for, and why taking a detailed medical history and performing a proper examination are essential before treatment.

You’ll learn:
• Why neck pain and headaches often occur together
• Common causes of neck pain and headaches
• What “tech neck” is
• How posture and prolonged screen time may affect your neck
• What cervicogenic headaches are
• What tension-type headaches can feel like
• How chiropractors assess neck pain and headaches
• What happens during a chiropractic adjustment
