Silicon Valley Health Institute"A Novel Therapeutic Strategy For The Metabolic Management Of Cancer" is the subject of the presentation by Thomas Seyfried, PhD at the June 21, 2018 meeting of the Silicon Valley Health Institute.
Dr. Seyfried will discuss his latest research in treating and preventing cancer. In addition to his research on the ketogenic diet, he adds a new component which adds drugs and procedures that create both chronic and intermittent acute stress on tumor cell energy metabolism, while protecting and enhancing the energy metabolism of normal cells. He calls this the “press- pulse” therapeutic strategy for cancer management is an approach which includes the calorie restricted ketogenic diets used together with drugs and procedures. A shift from respiration to fermentation is a common metabolic hallmark of cancer cells. As a result, glucose and glutamine become the prime fuels for driving the dysregulated growth of tumors. Press disturbances produce chronic stress, while pulse disturbances produce acute stress on populations. It was only when both disturbances coincide that population reduction occurred.
This general concept can be applied to the management of cancer by creating chronic metabolic stresses on tumor cell energy metabolism (press disturbance) that are coupled to a series of acute metabolic stressors that restrict glucose and glutamine availability while also stimulating cancer-speci c oxidative stress (pulse disturbances). e elevation of non- fermentable ketone bodies protect normal cells from energy stress while further enhancing energy stress in tumor cells that lack the metabolic exibility to use ketones as an e cient energy source. Mitochondrial abnormalities and genetic mutations make tumor cells vulnerable metabolic stress.
Optimization of dosing, timing, and scheduling of the press-pulse therapeutic strategy will facilitate the eradication of tumor cells with minimal patient toxicity. is therapeutic strategy can be used as a framework for the design of clinical trials for the non-toxic management of most cancers.

Atherosclerosis is best known for causing myocardial infarction, but it is also the main cause of dementia. The common diseases of aging like hypertension, and diabetes are connected to atherosclerosis. I will explain what causes these diseases. The hope is that by understanding the diseases, people will be more motivated to improve their diet and lifestyle.
These diseases are poorly understood by most physicians, because the medical school textbooks are out of date. It is important to have a good theory of disease, because this guides prevention. When a person understands the actual causes of atherosclerosis and dementia. they are empowered to prevent these diseases.
Everyone has heard of the connection between atherosclerosis and cholesterol, but atherosclerosis actually begins as a blood clot. Everyone has heard of the connection between beta amyloid protein, and Alzheimer’s disease, but the vascular theories are more helpful.
The general concepts of disease causation also explain how atherosclerosis is connected to vision loss, hearing loss, back pain, arthritis, and cancer. These issues will be discussed.

Microcirculation is essential to health. It ensures that oxygen and nutrients get to all parts of the body and takes away unwanted wastes. Without a healthy vascular system every organ and system in the body suffers. Clinical interventions rely on a healthy vascular system to deliver molecules to target tissues. It limits LDL, platelet, leukocyte adherence to blood vessels. It helps imodulate inflammatory responses and triggers nitric oxide and houses extracellular superoxide dismutase. It also houses coagulation regulatory factors.
One measure of micro vessel health is assessed by measuring
glycocalyx. Glycocalyx is the protective fibrous meshwork of
carbohydrates that forms a gel lining on the luminal surface of all vascular endothelial cells. It lines all capillaries that touch each of our trillions of
cells. Glycocalyx plays a significant role in the maintenance of the integrity of tissues. It plays a role in lung and kidney homeostasis. It limits LDL, platelet, leukocyte adherence to blood vessels. It helps modulate inflammatory responses and triggers nitric oxide and houses extracellular superoxide dismutase. It also houses coagulation regulatory factors.
Disruption of the glycocalyx on the endothelial surface of large blood vessels precedes inflammation and is a conditioning factor for depositing cholesterol in the vascular wall. Glycocalyx can be damaged by oxidative stress, inflammation, poor diet, disease, stress and aging. Poor glycocalyx scores are linked to diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, kidney disease, strokes, dementia, septic shock, inflammatory disorders, cancer metastasis and long haul COVID -10 complications.

The infectious disease known as Lyme borreliosis, or Lyme disease, is the most common infection due to tick bites and sometimes also to other stinging insects in the Northern Hemisphere. Although estimates vary and it is likely that the number of cases worldwide is much higher, there is general consensus that the disease affects hundreds of thousands of individuals a year in North America, Europe and northern Asia with incidence of the infection on the rise. The etiologic infectious agent, Borrelia burgdorferi was identified by Wilhelm “Willy” Burgdorfer it in 1981 and, since the original observation limited to arthritis, the clinical spectrum of the infection now includes a variety of clinical conditions such as erythema
migrans, acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans, lymphadenosis benigna cutis, arthritis, myocarditis, neuroborreliosis (meningo-encephalitis, meningo- radiculitis, meningitis), myositis and various ocular and skin disorders.

Boros, MD at the April 27, 2021 Zoom meeting of the Silicon Valley Health Institute.
Mitochondrial ATP/water biosynthesis steps involve hydrogen transfers via enzymatic cleavage, redox transfer, quantum proton tunneling, delocalization and destabilization; processes that are all compromised by heavy hydrogen isotopes. Therefore, cellular health is best understood by the discrimination of deuterium (2H) during metabolic water production, thereby metabolic water biochemistry and deuterium mediated kinetic isotopic effects become critical for Translational Deutenomics in medicine. The talk will cover research in metabolic profiling and mitochondrial nanomechanics of diseases, the production of deuterium depleted (depleted) metabolic water via nutrition and how deutenomics helps diagnostics via deuterated water metabolic imaging from nutrients.

Benefits of higher levels of vitamin D include a reduced risk of several diseases and health conditions. Vitamin D is instrumental in maintaining health. It can reduce inflammation, oxidative stress, and help with unhealthy guts – three triggers to set one on a path towards chronic diseases. Studies have shown its associations with flu, pregnancy, athletic performance, autism, ADHD, dental caries, sleep, verbal fluency, cognitive decline, dementia, erectile dysfunction, testosterone, surgery recovery and overall mortality. Recent studies have shown it was helpful in covid patients, and this was even discussed in the UK parliament. The sun is a primary source of vitamin D. Other sources of vitamin D are supplements and diet although it is difficult to get much from diet, especially for vegans and vegetarians. Those most likely to have low levels of vitamin D include people who are indoors most of the time, especially at mid-day; dark skinned people and people over age 60.

Neurotrophins are wonderful proteins that can be seen as our brain nourishers – they act as interfaces between what we eat, think, feel and do, and the brain. The human brain is three times larger than other large primates and therefore requires enormous amounts of energy to power it.
Neurotrophins act as an energy management system that help to decide where brain energy should flow. Eating good food, exercising, being with good people and being in an uplifting environment will all support our neurotrophins, to help deliver ample energy and nourishment to the brain. Eating badly, stress and a sedentary lifestyle will have the opposite effect and deplete the brain of energy, and predispose us to mood disorders and depression. Being bored or uninspired will also have a negative effect on brain energy – why would the brain waste valuable resources on something that we have no interest in? Neurotrophins are sensitive to stress and a large part of the presentation will explore the effects of stress on brain and body health – particularly exploring the positive effects of taking time to relax and activate our parasympathetic nervous system, and in turn our healing vagus nerve.
Another important aspect of neurotrophin activity is neurogenesis in our hippocampus – a vital brain structure that supports our mood and memory, to help protect us from depression, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The hippocampus grows 700 stem cells every day that have the potential to become adult hippocampal neurons – however, poor diet, stress, lack of exercise and inspiration may all block their growth.
Talking of stress, it is not all bad – it’s only excessive stress that is bad. Humans have evolved as hunter gatherers who thrive on novel environments which need exercise to discover them. Inspiration, exercise and a life truly lived are what get our brain fired up and energized! In fact small amounts of stress are designed to help us prevent aging and sickness through a process called hormesis. A small amount of stress triggers the production of our own internal antioxidants and activation of our anti-aging proteins. Humans live four times longer than we should for a mammal of our size. We have wonderful anti-aging mechanisms that we can tap into to help our brain and body live a long and healthy life – but we need to nourish ourselves at every single level of our being to tap into this longevity resource gifted to us by evolution.

You are what your brain is. Your brain makes you how you are: your personality, your character, your ability to be happy and enjoy life, your emotions, your ability to learn, your daily actions and reactions, how and what you pay attention to, all of these and much more derives from your brain. Your brain’s health is vital to your wellbeing.
Our brain is a unique and extremely complex organ, and the only one completely surrounded and protected by bone: the skull. It weighs about 3 pounds, about 2% of our body weight, yet uses 20% of our calories and of our oxygen, and 30% of our glucose. The brain receives the freshest and most oxygenated blood as it is pumped out from the heart. The brain has the texture of tofu and is made up of approximately 100 billion neurons and we have 400 miles of blood vessels to bring oxygen and nutrients to all those neurons. Each neuron has approximately 1000 synapses. According to the World Health Organization, diseases caused by mycotoxins are many and mycotoxins are known as the “Great Masquerader” of the 21st century due to their ability to present in patients a number of nonspecific clinical signs and symptoms and not routinely suspected by the medical establishment.1 Many patients get misdiagnosed with Lyme disease, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, or eventually psychiatric disorders such as adjustment disorder, depression, and others. Mold and mycotoxins have been implicated in contributing to various diseases including Autism, Alzheimer, Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gherig’s disease), and Multiple Sclerosis: Dr. Campbell will give an evidence based presentation with case reports.

.Despite earlier diagnosis and a substantial increase in the rate of diagnosis during the past 60 years, the death rate, in spite of some statistical ups and downs, remains about the same as it was in the 1930s. Current conventional treatment has done nothing to increase survival rates and statistics, five year and ten year numbers, do not show an increase in overall long term survival. The New England Journal of Medicine published a large study of the screening procedure int he United States. The results show that over a period of 7 to 10 years, PSA screening did not reduce the death rate in men 55 and over. So what are men to do? Some listed to Peter Starr who has negotiated and thoroughly researched this topic and made a documentary of the same title.

About Susan Wadia-Ells, PhD Susan Wadia-Ells is a long-time cultural change agent. During the 1970’s she organized women at Polaroid, creating the first affirmative action program for women within a Fortune 200 corporation, and soon became Polaroid’s corporate affirmative action manager and a mentor to other women’s groups fighting for equal pay, training, benefits, and career opportunities.
After returning to academia in the early 1980’s for a graduate degree in energy economics and political development at The Fletcher School, Dr. Wadia-Ells worked with community development groups in Zimbabwe as that nation’s long struggle against apartheid ended. Next, she operated as a small town journalist in Brattleboro VT, under the guidance of the legendary UPI International Editor, Norman Runnion. Wadia-Ells then moved on to complete her PhD in women’s studies, before teaching over the next decade in Lesley University’s Adult Baccalaureate Program in Boston—helping women learn to fearlessly write their unspoken ideas and life stories. During this time, while raising her son, she also created national feminist conferences on once-ignored or banned topics including the landmark Women’s Ways of Knowing Study—exploring the personal growth dimensions within motherhood, and understanding the power of women’s menopausal years.
Her 1995 anthology, The Adoption Reader: Birth Mothers, Adoptive Mothers and Adopted Daughters Tell Their Stories (Seal Press, Seattle), helped define adoption as primarily a woman’s issue. Wadia-Ells’ column, “Honest Health”, published by the Gloucester Daily Times (MA), beginning in 2008, her long-time Busting Breast Cancer blog, and her 2013 e-book, Birth Control Drugs and Breast Cancer: Learn the Terrible Truth, all served to introduce many of the topics discussed in her 2019 book, Busting Breast Cancer: Five Simple Steps to Keep Breast Cancer out of Your Body, based on the new metabolic theory of cancer. She currently lives in Manchester by the Sea, MA.

Electromagnetic fields are one of the many environmental toxins that adversely affect our health. It affects all of us to varying degrees. It leads to mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, DNA damage, immune disturbances and both a leaky gut and leaky blood brain barrier. Research studies showed that cell phones and cordless phones increase the risk of the brain tumors – gliomas and acoustic neuromas.
A pregnant mother’s use of cell phones can change the brain structure of the offspring leading to increased anxiety, hyperactivity and impaired memory in the offspring. Guy will discuss his experiences as an electro sensitive person and his research which has resulted in ways that we can protect ourselves.
Guy studied physics at University and then learnt how to design cars with an apprenticeship at Land Rover. He specialized in vehicle safety. This was followed by a specialization in IT for the design of motor cars, and then general IT management consulting.
He developed electromagnetic sensitivity while working nearby to 32 cell masts under test for 3G Data. He then developed sever brain fog, cluster headaches and many other symptoms. After two years of suffering, he stopped being in denial and reduced his electro-smog exposure.
He started a company to do the same for other people. His mission is to protect people by improving their lived environment and to encourage the telecoms industry to develop safer products.

Lewis, PhD (Nov 2020)Silicon Valley Health Institute2020-12-13 | “Where Are You On The Health – Disease Continuum?” is the presentation shared by Thomas Lewis, PhD Medical diagnoses are actually artificial human-made terms. In reality, we all lie on health-disease continuums. When you cross a certain point on the continuum, you then suddenly have a disease.
In this presentation, we discuss the consequences of this model within the context of the current healthy / sick model. We will discuss how to measure where you are on the: 1. “risk” continuum, 2. physiological continuum, 3. pathology continuum and 4. Chronic disease continuum and how the measurements provide information on how to improve your placement on ALL the continuums. We will also present case studies that show how a broad range of diagnoses improve or disappear when following the recommendations derived from this continuum model.
Dr. Thomas Lewis holds a Ph.D. from MIT and continuing education from the Harvard School of Public Health. Since his dad came down with Alzheimer’s 20 years ago, he has dedicated his life to determining how to better predict Alzheimer’s and chronic diseases in general.
Working with key clinicians at Harvard Medical School, his team developed advanced AI driven algorithms to predict a person’s mortality risk in both the near and distant future. Part of this algorithm is predictive capability for the major chronic diseases. He has coined this diagnostic protocol “4-Dimensions of Health” because the measurements span 4 dimensions: risks and other determinants of health, physiology, pathology, and existing disease states. All these measurements are designed to properly place anyone on a health-disease continuum.
The final feature of his program are robust protocols to help a person reduce their disease risk and burden, the success of which is measure across the 4 dimensions. Lastly, he designed this program with both individuals and populations in mind because all testing is widely available, often on-line, and very affordable. His continued mission is to build this testing into the standard-of-care as a replacement for the existing “sick care” approach with a new, true “health care” approach.

This is Part 3 -
Grappling with Uncertainty and Fading Into Mystery.
Fred Provenza, PhD will present and discuss the wisdom of the body, a wisdom that links flavor-feedback relationships at a cellular level with biochemically rich foods to meet the body’s nutritional and medicinal needs. What can we learn from animals’ inner nutritional wisdom?
Animals, including humans, develop nutritional and medicinal memories in utero and early in life. This takes place at a cellular level as evidenced by Claire Sylvia and her book A Change of Heart. When she received a heart and lung transplant, she also received the taste preferences of the donor. Young children select foods containing nutrients that the individual needs.
This nutritional wisdom concerning food preferences is lost as the child ages. Has this inner nutritional wisdom been hijacked by nutritional “authorities”? Consumers eager for a “quick fix” have empowered the multi-billion-dollar-a-year supplement industry, but is taking supplements and enriching and fortifying foods helping us, or is it hurting us? ___________________________________________ Visit the Silicon Valley Health Institute (aka Smart Life Forum) at http://www.svhi.com facebook.com/thesvhi twitter.com/SVHIBayArea tinyurl.com/siliconvalleyhealth
