Antigua First Impressions: 3 Stunning Beaches in a Day š“
On my first day in Antigua, I set out to experience what the island is famous for ā its coastline of 365 beaches, often described as one for every day of the year. Surrounded by coral reefs and calm Caribbean waters, Antigua is widely known as a true paradise for beach lovers, with every beach offering something different.
Starting from Penny Lane, I spent the entire day beach hopping on foot ā something Antigua makes surprisingly easy thanks to how close many beaches are to each other.
My morning began at Fort James Beach, a long stretch of soft white sand just outside St. Johnās. The beach runs for about a kilometer along the Caribbean Sea and is known for its gently sloping shoreline and calm waters, making it ideal for swimming and a peaceful start to the day.
With the historic Fort James overlooking the coastline ā originally built in the 18th century to guard the harbor ā the setting felt both scenic and full of history.
From there, I walked to Runaway Beach , located along Antiguaās northwest coast. This area is known for its easy access and proximity to other major beaches, forming part of a stretch of coastline popular for its clear water and relaxed beach atmosphere. Also calm the shore line has a bit of a drastic dip when entering at least that was my experience
By midday, I arrived at Dickenson Bay ā one of the most famous and developed beaches on the island. With its white sand, calm turquoise water, and mile-long shoreline, itās known for offering everything from water sports to beach bars and restaurants.
Unlike the quieter beaches earlier in the day, Dickenson Bay had a lively, vibrant energy, showing a completely different side of Antiguaās beach culture.
In just one day ā and entirely on foot ā I experienced three very different beaches, from peaceful and historic to lively and full of activity. It was the perfect introduction to an island where the biggest challenge isnāt finding a beautiful beachā¦ itās choosing which one to visit next.
