Recently a study showed that writing down feelings of anger and then destroying the paper eliminated that anger. Today I talk about how using this age-old technique of committing our toxic thoughts to paper and then burning them can be a meaningful, cathartic act, yet another way that a journal can change your life.

The Japanese word for purging toxic thoughts by breaking dishes is called hakidashisara: hakidashi is purging or spitting something out and, and sara means plate or dish.
