In this lunchtime conversation, Andrew Doyle—author of The End of Woke: How the Culture War Went Too Far—examines the rise and fall of woke ideology, the limits of illiberal progressivism, and whether society can move beyond polarisation toward genuine freedom and open debate. A highly engaged audience raise their questions and concerns in Part 2 which will follow shortly.
The chair is Toby Marshall - Film studies teacher; member, AoI Education Forum
Some hope that with Trump’s return to the White House and an increasing loss of faith in the performative politics of the Labour government, real politics might be on the brink of a comeback. Can we make anew the case for tolerance and freedom in the twenty-first century? Is it too optimistic to declare the end of woke, or are we indeed at the beginning of the end of a poisonous ideology?
WORLDwrite is a volunteer-run citizen TV channel that stands up for free speech – no ifs or buts. We film hard-hitting political debates, including panels from the Battle of Ideas festival, tackling taboo topics and defending ordinary people against contempt and censorship.
We train hundreds of young adults every year to shoot the arguments that matter, producing fearless films on politics, democracy, freedom, and global equality. This is Citizen TV that punches above its weight. Subscribe for unapologetic documentaries, debate and dissent.
With no paid staff, the charity WORLDwrite which filmed and is editing the Battle of Ideas Festival sessions needs your help to keep its edit suites switched on.
