Amnesia Rebirth: The Ambient Soundtrack
The soundtrack of Frictional Games’ Amnesia Rebirth finds composer Mikko Tarmia in top form. Tarmia’s score includes many tense, terrifying and tragic passages, cues and motifs to underscore the fateful and ultimately doomed journey of Tasi Trianon.
Most of the tracks on the official soundtrack highlight moments of puzzling dread, mind snapping terror and overwhelming sadness and loss. This comes at the expense of all the masterful ambient moments which Mikko Tarmia has created to bring many of Rebirth’s environments, puzzles and sinister beauty to life.
My intention in creating this playlist was to capture these moments of brief respite, baffled contemplation and profound loneliness. Each track was recorded live, in-game. Try to be patient with the occasional kick, remember Tasi is pregnant with a very ill child. Each video features a screen shot from the area where the ambiences were recorded. I tried to really take the time with each locale and capture an image and the ambience in a manner which really captures the essence of what it is like to sit back in my gaming chair, cease running and hiding and just inhabit the strange and perplexing world of Amnesia Rebirth for a time.
These tracks can be played at any volume level, but they probably do very well with headphone or playback at a lower volume. They are excellent for studying, work or even for more directed and purposeful meditations.
