On September 11, 2026, 25 years after the 9/11 attacks, the Schiller Institute NYC Chorus performs two contrasting poems of Friedrich Schiller, the Poet of Freedom, in tribute both to the victims of 25 years of unrelenting war since the 9/11 attacks, and also in celebration of America's 250th anniversary.

The first is An die Freude (To Joy) set in Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. The second is Schiller's Nänie, a song of lament, set by Johannes Brahms for orchestra "with as many harps as possible." These contrasting works by Schiller describe the beauty and dignity of mankind.

To wit, on this 250th anniversary let us solemnly reaffirm and remember that all men are created equal.
