Alien Strike: Blasting the Intruders is a 2d Run n Gun game by Combo Game Studio.
It Recaptures the magic of the classic arcade action shooter for up to 3 players.
With a bunch of Alien blasting stages and several weapons to choose from like lasers, spread shots, grenades, there are some pretty good options.
This is a single credit run of the game with Melina.
Getting 2 of any weapon powers it up and as you fight you fill up a special bar to do big damage. Getting hit once will take away the weapon you have equipped but there are plenty of 1 hit shields to give you a better chance.
Overall the game runs pretty well and the music and sprite graphics are well done. The big bosses are cool looking and menacing to fight.
You have a slide mechanic that gives you I-frames throughout. It's very helpful but the cool down is bit long.
It's pretty fun but some stages are bit too long and with repetitive enemies and some areas have a lot of down time with not much going on, only to suddenly ambush you with a horde of enemies.
This game is not without it's issues, There are a lot of things that need to be patched: Hidden death zones, bosses who attack you while the giant "Warning" is on screen and I can even pause buffer to move my character during a scripted cutscene.
The game is a little awkward at times. Weapons do less damage and enemies have small hit boxes. The synthwave music is good but can be a little mellow for fighting aliens in their lair. Bosses are tanky in single player and it can take a while to beat them, so bring a fully powered up homing missile or laser to speed things up. Yes the spread shot is useful on enemies but feels nerfed on bosses while the X homing missile is one of the strongest weapons in the game.
The more I played the more I liked this game. I found some small issues that need an adjustment but they already patched the pre-release version a bit so they are working on it.
